It continues to astonish me that nobody -- as far as we know -- actually recorded some of their meetings with Trump. Unless everybody entering the Oval Office was wanded at the door, a small recorder would have been easy to conceal.

Trump is too stupid to realize that this is just his own MAGA version of what he's accusing the 1619 Project of doing: conservative propaganda vs liberal propaganda.

I disagree. You seem to be assuming moral values and levels of honesty that Trump does not demonstrate to reach this conclusion. Again, it's worth remembering that Trump was literally taught to use Nazi tactics, very much including the Big Lie. I'd say that it's nigh certain that he knows quite well that he's applying inconsistent standards and is doing so quite intentionally.

As part of a larger theme, though... while it's not wrong to call Trump stupid, it's also worth remembering that a lot of the problematic things that he's done have far less to do with stupidity than they do with a set of values and tactics that, normally, can be called outright evil.

Jesus ******* Christ. Well, Republicans in particular and Trumpkins in general can surely be proud- they will get that SC Justice to make the conservative majority they wanted, and all they had to do was to turn the U.S. into an endless episode of The Jerry Springer Show.

Ah how I remember back, 5, 10 years ago naively wishing for a President who would again talk to the country more, he would bring back the modern equivalent of Roosevelt's "Fireside Chat" and occasionally communicate with the American people more casually, without so many overly prepared speeches and a less formal atmosphere.

I ah... might have misjudged that.

The trouble is that for 35%-40% of the US electorate that's a positive and another 10% can find a way to look past it. :(
