Gee, there is even a well known song that tells you how to spell it...

The GOP war on Disney is a big mistake. You don't fight Mickey, Luke Skywalker and the Incredible Hulk and win.

You don't tug on Superman's Cape, you don't spit into the wind...

And fellow nutjob Lauren Boebert willingly married a guy who exposed himself to minors.

Plus, it ain't Democrats trying to pass laws allowing government officials to inspect children's genitals.

Or remove the minimum age for marriage.

JoeMorgue 5th April 2022 05:58 PM

Every Republican accusation is a confession.

It fits in with their entire overall mentality of just wanting to drop the pretense and the subtext and just finally go "I'm wrong, the rules don't apply to me, and you can't do anything about it because I'm in power and intend to stay that way."

kookbreaker 5th April 2022 07:08 PM

And Tennessee wants to bring back child-brides, bastion of Democratic voters that it is.

It's nothing more than a very thinly veiled attempt to get around the SC ruling on gay marriage. They'll just put in an age minimum to override that objection.

Andy_Ross 6th April 2022 04:01 AM

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted today

@RepMTG
There is a line in the sand.
Either you are Pro-pedophile and Pro-transgender biological men or you defend children and women.
Period.
There is no other option.

I can't wait for the "It's not child rape if you're married" argument from both the Republicans and the "I'm totally not a Republican but here's a list of reasons why they are always right" Republicans.

Wait, what? How does it connect to the gay marriage ruling?

JoeMorgue 6th April 2022 05:45 AM

The Republicans have been low key, under the radar hot for child marriage for a loooong time.

It's pretty ironic considering the renewed interest in labeling all gay people, or anyone who isn't a reactionary freak is a "groomer".

I can't think of anything being more "groomer" behavior than a parent that allows their child to marry an adult.

Republicans have been pretty high key, very much on the radar hot for "I don't even hide the fact that I think the rules I use to attack you shouldn't apply to me and honestly I'm getting pretty tired of pretending this isn't obvious" for a longer time.

Again because literally every single Republican accusation or worry is a confession.

Here ya go. From The Hill:

Quote:

Tennessee lawmakers this week will vote on a bill seeking to establish common law marriages in the state between “one man and one woman.” Some worry the bill, which does not set an explicit age limit, would effectively legalize all-age marriages, while others have said they are concerned the bill would undermine the landmark Supreme Court ruling which legalized same-sex marriage.
Quote:

“All this bill does is give an alternative form of marriage for those pastors and other individuals who have a conscientious objection to the current pathway to marriage in our law,” Leatherwood told his colleagues while debating the legislation, ABC-affiliate WKRN reported.

But Leatherwood did concede that the bill does not set a specific age requirement for marriage, according to WKRN. Under current Tennessee law, a person as young as 17 years old may be married with parental consent.
Quote:

Advocates for the LGBTQ+ community have said the bill could also endanger marriage equality in Tennessee because it only includes unions between “one man and one woman.” The Supreme Court in 2015 legalized same-sex marriage in all 50 states, though some state Constitutions still define marriage only as a union between a man and a woman.

It won't be long before some GOP politician goes All The Way and says Gays should be put to death because the Bible says so.

Seems relevant.

John Rose, Republican rep from Tennessee gave Chelsea Doss a scholarship when she was 16, started dating her when she was 18 (and surely not a day sooner!), and married her when she was 21 (he was 46). If only there was a term for that.

https://twitter.com/ryanlcooper/stat...26727725121537

Maybe we should take these Republican accusations of grooming seriously, they definitely would know.

ETA: Gotta admire a "hands on" representative who can still mingle with his constituents:

Quote:

Through the scholarship that he provides, Ive not had to have a job through college. Ive been able to train, improve, focus on FFA and focus on school. That scholarship has made all the difference, Doss said. He has also coached me during my preparation, which has been extremely helpful.
This article published in 2010, they married in 2011.

I don't know who started it, but the person I have seen using the term "groomer" the most is James Lindsay.

Remember him? He was that supposedly atheist liberal who wrote those hoax papers with Peter Boghossian, that other totally liberal atheist.

Well, now James Lindsay works for reactionary Christian movement, "Sovereign Nations" and apparently, in all seriousness, writes stuff that looks like someone trying to hoax the reactionary right-wing, but he is apparently completely earnest about it.

Oh and Peter Boghossian? Well, he is busy supporting Peter Thiel-backed GOP candidates all over the place, and in jetting off to Hungary to support Viktor Orban ventures.

These people are totally liberal, of course, and not at all reactionary right-wing cranks.

Jimmy Kimmel was reacting to emptyg tweeting this:

Murkowski, Collins, and Romney are pro-pedophile.
They just voted for #KBJ.
Kimmel looked into the camera and said, "Wow, where's Will Smith when you need him?"

This was okay. :(

Only to 1987. That phrase was never used exactly like that in the original Dragnet. It was used by Dan Aykroyd in the movie adaptation though (and a lot of other mistaken people before that).

The movie also had the line, "This is the pit we had to jump into to save the virgin who was being eaten by the giant snake!"

I don't think that was in the original series either
