I am afraid though that the figures are still far from complete and comprehensible.

Statistics on testing perhaps serve two main purposes.

The first is to help us understand the epidemic, alongside the ONS survey, showing us how many people are infected, or not, and their relevant characteristics.

The second purpose is to help manage the test programme, to ensure there are enough tests, that they are carried out or sent where they are needed and that they are being used as effectively as possible. The data should tell the public how effectively the testing programme is being managed.

The way the data are analysed and presented currently gives them limited value for the first purpose. The aim seems to be to show the largest possible number of tests, even at the expense of understanding. It is also hard to believe the statistics work to support the testing programme itself. The statistics and analysis serve neither purpose well."

Honestly these people are supposed to be experts but they don't even know that the primary aim of data gathering, to which all others are secondary is hiding this government's failings. All other numbers must, like Johnson's total number of children, be supressed.

If all the MPs turn up for a vote the queue will be about a k in length.

The Honourable Member for the Nineteenth Century was complaining that remote access to the HoC was inefficient and reduced Commons sitting time. Presumably standing in a queue for hours allows them to do important work at the same time such as...... Umm... Contracting and passing on the virus?

I already have a nickname for him, and one for Boris and most of the other members of the cabinet. I don't use them on this site though as having every name appear as a row of astrixes tends to be unhelpful. But if we're giving him an site friendly one I'd go with 'Mr Toad', although it might fit Johnson better personality wise.

The real issue is that Boris Johnson doesn't have his baying fans behind him during PMQ and as a result looks as incompetent as he is. Boris Johnson needs the peanut gallery to be populated by his stooges, so what if a few have to die as a result ?

Quite right. Why are we being forced to use metric? This country uses yards and miles.

Some say that 400 MPs may have to queue 'almost a kilometre' in order to vote. Why not say 'half a mile'? It's more concise and more accurate.

Uncivilized savages.

Better than that travesty of democracy - being able to vote with this new fangled electricity!

Andy_Ross 3rd June 2020 04:47 AM

Parliament voted yesterday on changing the voting system in parliament using the system they were voting on using.
Given this new system they were using excluded many MPs who naturally would have voted against it, It's gerrymandering.

The MP said: "Boris has decided that Cummings is there, but he is going to take more direct control. It is coming out of frustration – you are seeing his reawakening after a tough old time with the Covid-19 attack.

"He showed he had backbone [in backing Mr Cummings]. Cummings is not in a brilliant place – and he must know it. Boris knowing that makes him more determined to do it himself."
BJ is coming to terms with reality and shaking off the psychotic episode he has been in, is what it sounds like.

Boris Johnson and his cabinet are, once again, demonstrating that the UK's unique approach to managing Coronavirus is "world-beating"

While other countries who've had their act together are starting to open up their borders:

The Czech Republic and Slovakia are to restore free movement between the two countries from midnight, their leaders have said.

It's a big day for travellers inside Italy and for tourists from abroad, as Italy lifts its travel lockdown.

It was one of the enduring images of the lockdown, when two border fences were erected between interconnected towns on the Swiss-German border.

The barriers finally came down last month between Constance in Switzerland and the German town of Kreuzlingen, although border controls will only be lifted on 15 June.

..the UK government is introducing quarantine when the horse not only has bolted, but is a distant memory.

Andy_Ross 3rd June 2020 07:53 AM

Apart from they aren't introducing a quarantine, they said they were but have also said they are finding ways round it so we can all **** off to Greece and Spain.

The Don 3rd June 2020 07:59 AM

Looks like the UK will top 40,000 official Coronavirus deaths tomorrow :(

A further 359 deaths of people who tested positive for coronavirus have been confirmed in the UK, across all settings, taking the total number to 39,728.

Well done Boris

Arcade22 3rd June 2020 08:33 AM

There has even been German tourists brave enough to visit Sweden.

Andy_Ross 3rd June 2020 09:04 AM

359 more fatalities since yesterday. Boffle remains “proud of our record”. Britain, of course, has (according to some reports) suffered the worst death rate per capita on the planet.

Andy_Ross 3rd June 2020 09:06 AM

Remember when we thought 20,000 would be a good result?

It seems the UK's 359 exceeded the total deaths occurring in the rest of the EU by 35. So it's time to loosen the reins a bit, right?

I've just watched the Government scientific advisor say "the numbers are going down" while pointing at a graph showing that the numbers have risen for the past two days in a row.

Darat 3rd June 2020 09:33 AM

That Starmer - causing the public to lose confidence in the government's handling of the lockdown, he should have sacked that aid that breached the guidelines!

Is 40,000 twice as good ?

How bad does it have to get before the British public realise that the government have handled this criminally badly ?

Several Tory MPs criticised Jacob's Folly then voted for it. It will be interesting to see how they react if the weather turns to rain in the next couple of days.

To be fair, they are always lower at the weekend, so they always go up on Monday compared with the day before. You have to look at the rolling average.

Hey!!!

Mr. Toad is a personable and generous amphibian.
While he, and BoJo are narcissistic borderline sociopaths, Toad is far more intelligent and resourceful, much kinder and far more loyal.
Not to mention less lazy.

Alok Sharma self-isolating and has been tested for Coronavirus.
He began feeling unwell in the chamber today, spokesperson says.

Which begs the question who's going to call our "world-beating" contact tracers and phone everyone he's been near (The Cabinet) and tell them to self isolate for 14 days???

It wouldn't surprise me if they all went on holiday to Barnard Castle together.

That's funny, but serious at the same time. If they did get close and don't all self-isolate then the rest of the country can invoke "The Cummings defence"

Well, the original plan might have led to half a million deaths, so I suppose they’ve done comparatively well.

Local papers are full of it. Council is investigating the planning permission.

Andrea Leadsom suggested that remote voting could mean "your 6-year old voting for fun" or someone could "press the wrong button"

So, in case someone votes the 'wrong 'way by accident or a 6 year old votes for fun, we’re going to take votes away from hundreds of MPs and representation away from millions of people.

All of this traditionalist posturing is just a smokescreen to hide how empty and completely pointless yet time consuming most of the British parliamentary procedures really are. That is why the arguments are so bad.

They are completely detached from reality, so it's no surprise they haven't a clue how anything works.

I would say that they're thick, but I suspect it's more that they feel the electorate are the thick ones, and frankly it's hard to disagree.
