One fan at the MTG-Gaetz event in Dalton, GA (MTG's constituency) said that she hadn't heard MTG's "Holocaust" comment (probably because it wasn't covered on her info source) but when the reporter told her, she said she agreed because the "the Nazis medically experimented on people and children" referring to Covid vaccines. Of course, the fact that Trump takes credit for those very vaccines and has been vaccinated himself never occurs to her. There just has to be something in the Dalton County, GA water. Lead. Arsenic. Stupidinium.

We should just call them Marjorie Taylor Gaetz at this point.

This is what I found interesting about the news coverage of the Greene-Gaetz event by local media. Even the Dalton news site -- the Dalton Daily Citizen-News -- carried the same news story by Riley Bunch that the Valdosta Daily Times carried. Bunch is a reporter/photographer for Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. which owns and publishes newspapers in a number of small markets, many in the South, including the newspaper in Dalton. Most of the coverage is local news. Weather, crime, fires, accidents, local events, etc. Bunch's regular assignment is covering the Georgia legislature.

Both stories included the statement:
Note this is not an op-ed but a straight up news story. It is being reported -- even in Greene's own home territory -- that she relentlessly engages in false conspiracy theories, and makes racist and anti-Semitic comments. Presented as fact, not opinion.

I get the sense that most of Greene's supporters -- whatever else they may be -- live comfortable lives. They're employed, make an adequate income, have healthcare. They probably see themselves as not needing anything from government. So they indulge themselves by electing someone like Marj Greene. They probably delight in inflicting her on the rest of us. :(

I'm sure that if confronted with that they'd just suppose that Trump is screwing with the media, and didn't actually get vaccinated. Giving an inconsistent message is treated as a feature.

How would they explain Trump's constant bragging about being responsible for the quick development of the C 19 vaccine and its distribution which would never have happened without him (according to him)? If the vaccine is poisoning everyone, then Trump is bragging about being responsible for poisoning the American people. Yet their little pea brains don't seem able to connect the dots.

I don't think they assign any value to connecting the dots. It has never given them any satisfaction, so they simply don't try. A feature of being a skeptic is that you connect the dots even if the result hurts.

You don't need to connect the dots when your entire position is based on obstructionism. All they need to know is that the Democrats support it, and thus it is wrong and they need to oppose it. That this might cause a contradiction elsewhere doesn't matter.

If democrats introduced a Clean Air Bill into Congress where they want to make it the right of all Americans to have clean air with enough oxygen in it to live, the Republicans would oppose it and you'd soon have crazies on FOX and OAN claiming that the Democrats were trying to take away people's right to hold their breath.

Take a sheet of paper. On the top of it write "Who I am." Now, and be honest, list all the stuff that you think makes up "You." List all your morals, your standards, your wishes, your desires, all your qualities.

Politically I am a socialist. I vote for the candidates in elections that are closest to my personal philosophy. I used to (back when I had more time) volunteer for those candidates. I defend the ideals I have in discussion when such a time arises that I can and wish to do so. Who would believe me if I then turned around and said "Oh I'm a conservative really"? Why do these people think we will believe them when they pull the same trick?

The problem is that a staggeringly huge percentage of the population believes their imaginary world is more real than reality. If confronted with an irreconciliable contradiction between their thoughts and reality they will choose to believe their thoughts. And since many, if not all, of them believe they are good people then it doesn't matter what they do. They will never, ever reconsider their own view of themselves no matter what actions they've done. They have granted themselves license to do absolutely anything because they are 'the good guys' in their personal world of illusion and stupidity. That makes you the 'bad guy' for questioning them.

Also at this point the "Do the thing and the immediately apologize for it" is as much as "I can do whatever I want and nobody can stop me" flex as their hypocrisy thing.

Indulgences have a long and honored history. Spend your life being cruel and greedy, repent at the last minute, and all is forgiven.

That is, IMHO, uniquely the weirdest concept in Christianity. Far outstrips miracles and human parthenogenesis.
