I don't believe in conspiracy theories, but I'm very interested in that, for example about 9/11 or the JFK assassination; but I'm also interested in urban legends and paranormal things from a sceptical point of view.

Welcome krad5, not to worry my english ain’t all that much gooder either (and it’s the only langue I know). Though I speak and type the American variant. A Germanic language itself, if I’m not mistaken. Where the heck is a Philologist when you need one?

Welcome everyone.

OK, that sounds encouraging. :)

Hello.

Usually I hang around at the BAUT forum, though I occasionally skim this one for something interesting. The latest thing to lead me here was Patrick1000 (a.k.a. DoctorTea/fattydash/HighGain elsewhere) and his Apollo hoax claims. After his latest ignorant outburst about "Julian coordinates", I decided to finally register and debunk it, but several people beat me to it while my registration was awaiting approval. :'(

Hello,
My name is tom and I am a theist (I'm not sure what this word means exactly - but something about being a believer in more then we are presented with through our senses). Have you guessed my path yet --- the senses line --- I am a meditational yoga practioner.

I have a few science degrees and am not anti science. When I was a kid I obtained from somewhere an "Amazing Randi" poster and hung it up on my bedroom wall. For some reason it held a fascination for me. I don't really study scriptures much - western or eastern, though I am aware of some of the stuff in them.

As a practioner on this path action is paramount - not outer action but inner action, meditation, moving energy up and down the spine. I was/am a skeptical person by nature - but I always held out with the, "if you can prove it to me...." type of reasoning. When a few things happened in my life (age 33) I began my full investigation into the "real" meaning of everything around me. Your forum seems open to reasoning and logic. Anyway it is good to put one's beliefs out there every once in a while to see how they register.

COLONEL 21st September 2011 08:40 PM

RAWR!

So I'm new here and posting here is the thing for new people.

So I do rocks by themselves at the moment but I'm hoping to do space rocks, and whilst I'm not a real Dr yet I do plan to do a PhD when I can.

I also take part in an online discussion show (with blog) that deals with pseudoscience and general hokum and the like.

How long have COLONEL and amb been representing the Forum to newcomers?

Ketyk 23rd September 2011 03:08 PM

"representing"?

Are you a narc?

They are more, um, junior-ambassadors with funny food tastes.

ETA: the menu is late, by the way.

UsualSuspect42 24th September 2011 09:32 AM

Hi there, another newbie for you. I am UsualSuspect42, or Dave, from Glasgow, Scotland.

Have visited the site on and off for some time, and was back here a couple of days ago to see what was being said about Sally Morgan. I am a confirmed skeptic, and hate the way people of her ilk con people.

I don't anticipate posting particularly often, but it is at least nice to have that option now!!

Foolmewunz 24th September 2011 04:19 PM

Hey, welcome UsualSuspect42. Can always use another critical thinker. Watch out for the Scots already on board, they're a cantankerous bunch. (Translation: some of my favorite posters who know what they're talking about and "bring it" like a good Scot* when they've got something to say.)

Off the top of me head, check out Rolfe, Lothian, Architecht.... I'm sure there are a goodly number that others can name.

*can't say "Scotsman" because at least one is a female.

Oh, and if you follow Rugby (a painful pastime in Scotland, I know) we have a great thread over in "Sports" that's been running for years. A wee bit late for the pool, but you can always celebrate mourn their resounding victory embarassing thumping against Argentina this afternoon. Lothian will be in there handing out the champagne crying towels, I'm sure. (No, I'm not a Commonwealther - the location is a coincidence - I'm a Yank.)

Hello, from a Coffee Loving Skeptic!

Hi all

I haven't posted here until today, but I've been a regular visitor to the JREF site, and watch tons of Randi's clips on YouTube. Brilliant Stuff.

Anyway, this is my official hello, and I hope to be around more often.

I was very pleased to see an article I wrote on my website featured on the JREF media page, so hope I can contribute more in the future. :)

John Davis 27th September 2011 08:27 AM

Hey,

I'm a flat earther from Tennessee. Have visited the forums in the past, but haven't posted.

Just thought I'd introduce myself.

Ketyk 27th September 2011 08:44 AM

Hi tpr and John. I hope you find what you are looking for. So, are either of you hungry? Would you like a drink before you have a look at the menu? Actually, you should have a drink before you look at the menu.

alphagaia 27th September 2011 09:49 AM

Greetings, I found this board through the Skeptoid Podcast website. Being a fan of Mr. Randi for awhile now. I decided to join this board after reading the posts for a couple weeks now.
Not much to say really.....
I love learning, I'm an atheist, love chess, beer and books. I grew up watching Mr. Wizards World on TV.
I like animals too :D

We have at least a few common interests, but sadly I'm largely unteachable (due in part to the beer, I guess).

Still, it's all good.

Are you from Palm Beach in 'merica or Palm Beach in Oz?

Somehow this all seems as if Mad Magazine had come back to life on the Internet... and I do like it a lot. I have believed in "What? Me worry!" since Mad first appeared.
That was in another world, long, long ago.
Anyway, my 'Greetings to you all."

a small note - I would like to be pushy, and request Old Milwaukee Non-alcholic beer.
Beer drinkers can quit laughing NOW.

Indeed arete and welcome. Perhaps we could get one of the resident graphic artists to do a JREF ‘fold in’? Then all that would be left are some Sergio Aragonés cartoons in the margins and few Don Martin sound effects.

“GASHKUTZGA”

“LAFLATCH”

Hey, I'm really interested in science. Particularly psychology. However, as a hobby, I like to debunk creationist arguments against evolution. Also, I like to expose the frauds who are out there who claim to be able to do miracles. I have to do 15 posts before I can start a thread on someone who I want Randy to challenge.
