The day before, May 18th, Greene was one of a dozen Republican members of Congress who refused to wear a mask in the Congressional chambers as per the mandate.

I believe she is just stupid enough to be one of the GOP legislators telling the truth that she isn't vaccinated.

newyorkguy 10th July 2021 07:43 PM

According to a local news site in Illinois, Thursday evening Greene appeared at a private fundraising event in Effingham, Ill., where she urged audience members -- many of whom were elderly -- NOT to get vaccinated. From TV station WCIA in Champaign, Illinois.

Then, referring to President Biden's remarks that "we may need to go" door-to-door to convince people to get vaccinated, Greene said:

Her ‘We Will Not Comply Act,’ which she filed in April, would offer wary citizens protection against federal overreach. "It gives you permission to tell Biden’s little posse that’s gonna show up at your door, you know, that intimidate you — they probably work for Antifa by night, and then they come and intimidate you to take the vaccine by day — Well, you get to tell them to get the hell off of your lawn,” she said to a room of about 500 people.
The fundraiser was for first-term U.S. Congress member Mary Miller. Miller, you will recall, was in the news this past January when video surfaced of her telling a Washington D.C. audience, "Hitler was right on one thing. He said, ‘Whoever has the youth has the future.'"

That's one thing I hope. Only anecdotally, but my friend's kids seem super liberal, many are gender queer. I'm 45 , for whatever that's worth. I see this trump garbage as the last death throws of an older more racist generation. I can totally be wrong

I'm at the tail end of the boomers and I am often disappointed in many of my generation for going so materialistic. Whatever happened to the summer of love? and civil rights? My father passed away two years ago (part of the great generation) I am sometimes glad he didn't live to see the insurrection and politicizing of COVID. He was a lifelong republican, and we had many great discussions, but he became disappointed with those of his generation in the house and the senate. He was a devout christian, knew I was an atheist, but we could still talk and share a piece of pie.

Bingo. Hence my comment about hoping she has the courage of her statements, rather than the more conventional "courage of her convictions"

I know many devout Christians whom I respect*. I know several devout Muslims whom I respect.

I'm a generation older than you and I used to think the same thing, that the Kent States, non-equality, and racism would fade out with the older generations. I am quite disappointed.

Marjorie Taylor Greene says CRT should be outlawed, teachers fired “on the spot”

Quote:

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green has called Critical Race Theory “absolutely evil”, said it should be outlawed across the country and that any teacher teaching it should be fired immediately.

The controversial Georgia Congresswoman’s remarks came after she was asked about a teachers union that has a legal defense fund to assist any members prosecuted for allegedly teaching racism and slavery.
Quote:

“Third, what we have to do is that we should be able to shoot any teacher right on the spot if they teach important race theory. And I’m serious about that. I’m sick and tired of Republicans and politicians who Will not take action to end something and will not allow it to happen. We have to end it where it is starting, and that means now.”
:jaw-dropp

OK, I don't really believe she said the highlighted part. Or did she? It certainly sounds like something she might say, and I'm sure many of her followers would agree with it.

I couldn't find a non-paywalled source for the above. But from visible previews, I 'think' Greene said "We should be able to fire any teacher right on the spot."

But you have to wonder...

Stacyhs 11th July 2021 12:49 PM

And here I thought it was the 'left' that practiced cancel culture.

Stacyhs 11th July 2021 12:58 PM

MTG did use the word 'fire' not 'shoot'. She also called Teachers Unions "communist". Just when I think MTG can't say anything more stupid, she goes and proves me wrong. What a clown. The only thing more stupid than MTG are the idiots who vote for her.

Quote:

"So what we should do, number one, Congress should immediately outlaw critical race theory—it should be completely against the law. It's racism, it's hate, and it's dividing our children and teaching them something horrible. It should be completely against the law."

"Then secondly, we should disband these communist teachers' unions that want to organize, raise money to file lawsuits against parents who are paying the taxes that are paying the teachers' salaries.

"Third, what we have to do is we have to be able to fire any teacher on the spot immediately if they are found teaching critical race theory. And I'm that serious about it. I'm sick and tired of Republicans and leaders who won't take action to end something and not allow it to happen. We've got to end it where it's starting, and that means right now."

Norman Alexander 11th July 2021 02:39 PM

Seems MTG has a strong culture of cancelling all the far-right trigger-word issues. So when she gets to cancelling "cancel culture", does the whole thing become recursive and she disappears up her own fundamental orifice?

Let's hope so.

Apparenrly MTG has never heard of the First Amendment.

It's like Dump and Carlson and in the past it was Anne Coulter: just say anything outrageous, you get attention and either your books sell or your grifting is more profitable.

The woman is getting attention for being outrageous so she continues to say outrageous things. And she's even getting to spend her travel budget which I bet is in addition to her salary as a Congress woman. Stay at nice hotels, ride around in a limo... talk in front of idiots who will contribute to your campaign. And like all of them, that campaign fund can be used for all sorts of personal benefits.

Plus senior congresspeople of like mind can use the "useful idiots" like her as a shield and distraction while they further their own nefarious plans out of the glare of the media. Costs them a few hotel rooms and luxury flights...nothing at all in their bigger scheme of things.

MTG will be dropped like a hot rock as soon as she is no longer useful.

I am still shocked that major political party would actully turn against science and modern medicine. I guess the cancer of the Religious Right..which has always hated science...has now taken over the GOP.

Seems like the "hating science" is starting to step into the forefront with the "religion" part being a branding exercise rather than any attempt to exemplify Christian values.

Remember back in the days when their used to be complaints that the GOP were anti-science because of the creationist/anti-AGW attitudes, and the response was, "Well, democrats are anti-vax, so they are just as bad'? I bet you can even find examples of that here.

Yeah, that's not so much any more.

Oh sure, there are still the anti-vax parents who are democrats, but that certainly is not the party line at all.

As opposed to the GOP.

kevbo 12th July 2021 03:05 PM

I now think a lot of people are having problems coping with the modern world..in particular the changes that have happened over the past 50 years..and now are in revolt, wanting to turn back the clock to a simpler time they think was a Golden Age.
I used to think they wanted to go back to the 1950's, Now I think they want to go back to the 1050s, it's that bad. They want to throw out science and replace it with mysticism and superstition...something medieval if ever there as something medieval.

In my YT feed there occasionally appear vids of TV programs, home movies, etc., from decades past. The comments get a large fraction of respondents who wax rhapsodic about those wonderful, simpler times that they'd gladly go back to if only it were possible.

Yes, and some people fool themselves into thinking that those times actually were better. But it really is just nostalgia for our childhood. Before you're an adult you don't really see the true nature of society, as you live in a pretty closed bubble with little responsibility.

As I approach 50, I feel this more and more when I see YouTube videos of TV shows, games, toys, and commercials from my childhood. I long for those times. But really, there was probably quite a bit of corruption, racism, and general society ills in the late '70s and early '80s that I just wasn't aware of at the time. I mean really, who can worry about Iran/Contra when I've got to put my Star Wars figures away and get ready for a Little League game?

During the initial Make America Great Again push, there was a segment on the Daily Show (I think) in which various politicians were asked when America was previously the greatest. The answer was invariably when they were children and had no responsibilities or exposure to the stresses of the adult world.

I think this is it.
