Kind of a variation on "We can go to the Moon, but we can't <insert anything>."

"We have a vaccine for Covid, why don't we have a vaccine for all kinds of things!"

Or comparing swimming pools to guns, etc. That popular "logic."

dirtywick 12th August 2021 02:50 PM

well i was at the dentist once and that waiting room was full too, and if you think about it at the molecular level water is basically a bunch of guns floating around shooting at each other

My husband, a cancer patient, went to the ER about a week ago after he'd fallen onto a wooden beam full force hitting just under his arm on the rib cage. He almost blacked out from the pain. After a few days, he was still in so much pain that he was having to take pain pills just to sleep and could barely move. I made him go to the ER because I feared he might have internal damage from a broken rib etc. After sitting there for four+ hours, every person who was there when he went in had been seen and more who had come in after him were being seen. He complained about it but was given the same line every time: thank you for your patience...blah blah blah... He finally just gave up and called me to come pick him up. Thankfully, he's mostly healed now but no thanks to them.

I obviously can't read the staff's minds in this situation, but there have been cases where patients in your husband's situation get ignored because the people in charge are idiots who arbitrarily decide that the patient is an addict pretending to be in pain to get drugs.
"If he's really hurt, he'll stay until we get around to him."

He never mentioned he was taking pain pills or asked for them... and they could easily see on his medical records when he checked in that he has a standing order for Percocet from his oncologist and how often he fills it (he often goes weeks without taking any and is obviously not abusing them).

But, yes, you're right . My sister was an ER nurse for 20+ years before she retired and she said she could spot a drug seeker very quickly as they came into the Veterans Hospital all the time.

This sounds like an urban myth to me.

There is a triage nurse to see patients and decide which order they need to be seen. When EDs are over capacity then one often sees patients who came later being seen sooner.

Generally they take a quick look at patients, get info, take a blood pressure, make sure your chest pain isn't cardiac.

This is the fault of unvaccinated COVID patients filling up EDs, not some neener neener judgement about who is there drug seeking.

This article just happened to pop up on my Firefox home page. Apparently there's a national database and algorithm that's supposed to analyze patterns in a patient's medical care and prescriptions to alert doctors to drug-seeking behavior, and it's producing false positives. The woman featured in the article was flagged as an addict because of medication a vet prescribed for her pets.

Lovely. My BIL went to the doctor for back pain a couple years ago (He just had major spinal surgery last March for 5 collapsed vertebrae, severe arthritis, scoliosis, and sciatica). The doctor didn't want to give him any pain pills and said he had 'an additive personality'. This floored my BIL because he never had any problem with addiction of any kind. He was so stunned he didn't even ask the doctor why he would say that. Fast forward a couple years and he finally asked the doctor why he had sad that. It was the doctor's turn to be stunned. It turned out the doc had confused my BIL with another patient.

MTG in Iowa peddling here nonsense, icluding the Masks don't work crap.
She is apparetnly testing her national appeal and is considering a 2024 run for the White House if Donnie is a non runner.

I hope we all learned the lesson of Donald Trump in Iowa. Dems and anti Trump Republicans need to go negative, hard now. They need to get those 527s pumping out attack ads and character assassinations.

If I hadn't learned the lesson of 2016, I'd say, "Oh, PLEASE let her be the nominee!" But I did learn the lesson: never underestimate the stupidity of the American electorate in combination with the Electoral College.

Being from Iowa, my understanding from comments on local news pages was that they had a whopping 100 or so people there and my guess is that some of them happened by because their favorite fried food-on-a-stick stand was right near there.

Looks like they've removed fried butter on a stick from the list of food on a stick at the Iowa State Fair this year. It was included in the past.

Maybe they showed up thinking they could sample MTG's fried brains on a stick. She'll do anything to make money and she's not using it, so why not?

So she is now a sideshow attraction? Bearded lady sort of thing?

Speaking of things Iowan, Hugh Jackman opens in "The Music Man" on Broadway in Febuary, after a year's dealy because of Covie. Now that I would like to see.

I have the feeling Marj is beginning to run out of material, at least of the Grade A kind. Like a ballplayer who breaks in with a big splash but they need to do it everyday, over and over, and they begin to struggle. I recently saw a video of Lauren Boebert appearing at some outdoor gathering. Followed by her camera crew she approached a large crowd and began calling to them. Something like, "Hey you guys miss donald trump? You want him back?" Boebert had a big grin as she yelled it but the people ignored her. Boebert muttered something and then turned away.

With Greene, there's also her feet. Remember the California beach visit with Gaetz? Greene stood bare foot in the sand as photogs snapped away. Photos were posted and then, someone noticed Greene's feet. Ewwww! Went viral.

kookbreaker 23rd August 2021 06:07 AM

Are her toes in the sand?

newyorkguy 23rd August 2021 06:34 AM

Her foot's usually in her mouth. ;)

It does look like that to me.

Toes in the sand or not, her feet look edematous, or very fat.

I know, via my Dad, that if you are a Fox viewer you have never even heard of Greene or Gaetz, I poop you not. I wasn't surprised really.

Him: "Oh I went to CNN to check the "other side" and they were slamming Biden for Afghanistan too"

Yes. That's been my point for awhile now Dad. Seeing it yet? Cuomo? Fox refuses to admit "their" most dangerous sociopathic whackos even exist.

In the comments people are rightly speculating that it is a composite photo since her legs wouldn’t fit in that Hummer bed in that position. As one put it: “She lost her legs in the War on Christmas!”

Yeah, now I can't un-see that. Maybe the rifle recoil pushed her back into the truck's cab or crushed her legs. Also she might want to wear sleeves if she's going to shoot that thing inside of a truck bed?

Impossible to know for sure, because it is a screen shot.

That said, it looks like a composite to me. Apart from the obvious lack of legroom, there are other anomalies that suggest a composite to me. There are contrast variations that do not make sense, edges that do not make sense, the scope appears to not be aligned with the barrel.

Alas, compression is what it is and introduces anomalies of its own. And the tweet seems to have been removed. All I can say is from what little we have, there is nothing to be solid about.

They put the scope mount on backwards because the optic they are using doesn't have enough relief distance to be properly used on that rifle. (This is the distance your eye can be from the scope and have it still focus. A 'long relief' optic can, and should, be further from your eye than other optics.) Not using the proper scope for a rifle like that is a safety hazard, and at best will destroy the optic.

And I say this as someone who enjoys shooting 'trashy' loadouts. My 10/22 has an ACOG clone on it. There is nothing wrong with doing that for fun, but you have to own it and not act like some tactical operator for doing so.

EDIT: She's not even wearing glasses. I'd also have my hair pulled back, and at least something on my ejection side arm. The more I look at the picture the worse it gets, even ignoring the obvious 'where your legs at?' problem.

EDIT 2: LMAO, I was ignoring the fiction that she's supposed to be shooting from the bed of an old Humvee and didn't notice the bipod on the tailgate. That is going to be one BOUNCY reset.
