Trump (& other pols) have no business making specific curricular decisions..."

Typical Trump reply when told that historians say no such battle occurred:

Quote:

“How would they know that?” Mr. Trump asked when told that local historians had called his plaque a fiction. “Were they there?”

Mr. Trump repeatedly said that “numerous historians” had told him that the golf club site was known as the River of Blood. But he said he did not remember their names.

Then he said the historians had spoken not to him but to “my people.” But he refused to identify any [employees] who might still possess the historians’ names.

“Write your story the way you want to write it,” Mr. Trump said finally, when pressed unsuccessfully for anything that could corroborate his claim. “You don’t have to talk to anybody. It doesn’t make any difference. But many people were shot. It makes sense.”

<Pointless questions follow> What is the GOP's long game with regards to Trump? I'm not talking about their plan to stack the supreme court with theocratic conservatives, I mean with Trump specifically. They've put all their energy into becoming the Party Cult of Trump®, so what will they do when they lose him?

Even if they rig the election or somehow get a third term, they still have to deal with life after Trump eventually. (No way Don Jr. can pull it off even though some seem to want him to be the guy.) Someone posted a link recently to a clip of Trump-enthusiasts registering to vote. A lot of them said Trump Party when asked what party they wanted to register with. Doesn't that worry the younger GOP congress-critters? "Wait, which party are you? Republican? I don't care about them; now where's the Trump-guy?"

I especially loved the "“how would they know that? Were they there?” bit- straight from the Ken Ham fact-denial playbook. If the reality of what happened in the past can only be ascertained by personal experience, then that reality is up for grabs. And when that's so, any reality is as possible as any other; the only thing that needs to be done then is to make your preferred reality as plausible as any other, and you've succeeded in making fact a matter of how well you've argued for an opinion. Creationists do this, hard-core CTists do this- it's no surprise to me that Trump does this.

It'll be a new party, the one that forms when the Republicans disband. (There won't be a need for a "Republican" party once we're no longer a republic, after all.)

President Trump will sign an executive order to ensure continued health-care coverage for Americans with pre-existing conditions. It's refreshing to finally have a leader who keeps his promises and actually wants to help Americans rather than a power-hungry, thin-skinned narcissist like Obama who had "gimme dat" promises to bribe voters, and then blew up the federal budget in order to stay in power.

Of course. The reporters were yelling out questions. Couldn't you hear it? Yeah...neither could anyone else

It was completely silent as Trump arrived 1:40 in the video. Trump looks visibly uncomfortable as he stands there until the booing starts at 2:23 which is quite loud. No way did he not hear it. The chanting "Vote him out" is also quite audible. It's obvious he hears it and does his usual cut and run at 3:12. Once again, he's lying. He heard it quite well.

Keep in mind he does this **** because it stirs the flies around the news coverage. Take it with a grain of salt.

He's also giving a strong message that he doesn't believe he's going to win the election so he's starting now to rationalize how he didn't really lose, he was cheated by the dark state or something. Listen to his words of ignorance, something about "it's the ballots". He didn't even add the main-in ballots this time, he's calling the election a fraud before the election even takes place.

I think it's better if you go before the election, because I think this scam that the Democrats are pulling, it's a scam, the scam will be before the United States Supreme Court."
He fantasizes the SCOTUS will install him like they did GW. I doubt he understands the concept that this is up to the states. And guess what, Roberts has to agree the SCOTUS will hear the case, whatever challenge Trump thinks his lawyers can contrive.

And if Trump thinks the justices he stacked the deck with owe him a favor, I believe he is in for a rude awakening.

Of course that's my current POV. The closer we get to the election I might revise it.

newyorkguy 24th September 2020 05:22 PM

trump's strategy appears to be, if he loses the electoral college vote (based on the popular vote in the various states), concoct a way to challenge the votes in enough states that he lost in order to change the electoral college vote in his favor. Whatever he comes up with the Republicans will support and frame it as a legal issue, go before the Supreme Court and expect the court -- with trump's new nominee in place -- to rule in their favor.

When authoritarians have been elected the head of democratic nations, that is out of the standard playbook. They subvert and corrupt the democratic process to remain in office. They always dispute the following election. They also pack the highest court in the land. They always find a way to remain in power. I just hope it doesn't happen here and there are people all over the world who feel the same way. It's horrible that people are forced to sit and watch this all happen.

"They came to my office today in the death penalty, for clemency. I said, 'what was the crime?' The crime was so horrible that I won't tell you what it was, but it has been going on for 21 years or so."

"We've taken out so many bad ones ... we've never had weapons like this" talking (wink wink) about how much he hopes to never have to use certain unspecified military weaponry

It is not normal for the President of the United States to call (former) FBI officials "scum," say "they were trying to do a coup," and suggest they should be prosecuted

"I told our great First Lady, I said, 'I was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. I'm here to come home early. I'm gonna watch it on NBC News'... they start off with you, they said you had some heavy rain"- Trump whines that NBC covered a hurricane instead of his Nobel nomination

I just hope it doesn't happen here and there are people all over the world who feel the same way. It's horrible that people are forced to sit and watch this all happen.

It is very scary.

Trumps know about the red mirage and the blue shift. For a number of reasons, votes that are counted after election day tend to favor Democrats. The blue shift. That can give the appearance when the polls close or at the end of election day that the Republican is doing better than he actually is or even winning. The red mirage.

That’s why Trump has been saying over and over that there has to be a final decision on election night. And many of the votes counted after election day are mail-in or absentee ballots. That is why Trump has been saying over and over again that the mail-in votes will be fraudulent.

Trumps knows that it is very possible that he will be ahead when the polls close or even at the end of election night only to have Biden take the lead as mail-in ballots are received and/or counted the following days.

Trump will insist that Biden concede on election night and that the election is over, which Biden won’t do. When the votes then shift to Biden, Trump will declare that he won on election night and these are fraudulent ballots mysteriously appearing out of nowhere.

Federal Election Commission Commissioner Hans von Spakovsky will contact State officials and legislatures and convince them that mail-in ballots counted after election night are expected to have a similar distribution as those counted on election day and the blue shift is a clear indication of fraud. It appears he may already be setting this up. Governors, Secretaries of State, and/or State legislators will agree and call for a recount of the votes counted after election day.

They will spend a bunch of time coming up with rules. They will declare that the votes counted when the polls closed or at the end of election day (whenever Trump was ahead) to be valid and all subsequent votes be recounted. They will count the Trump votes first because they clearly cannot account for the blue shift that indicates the fraud.

Then make even tighter restrictions to toss out Biden ballots for the smallest of technical concerns. They will, of course, find some small errors on some ballots. They will use this to declare that they have discovered fraud among the Biden ballots counted after election day, just as they had expected.

They will cut back staff and the new level of scrutiny will slow the process down causing the Biden ballots to be counted very, very, slowly. Before Biden gets enough votes to take the lead, they will declare that they have run out of time, but they calculate that with the fraudulent Biden ballots a further recount would not give Biden the lead.

The State legislature will take a vote and declare that they have determined that it is the will of the people of the State that Trump’s electors be appointed.

Everything I have heard Trump do and say points to him planning to pursue this course (if necessary). He can probably do it in every State that has a republican majority in the legislature, which includes Florida, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, North Carolina, Ohio, Georgia, Iowa, and Texas (basically every swing state except Nevada).

Biden will file a law suit. Whether Biden wins or loses in State court it will be taken to the Supreme Court. The right-leaning Supreme Court, now packed with three Trump appointees, will rule 6-3 or 5-4 in favor of Trump arguing that Federal law requires that the election be based on the will of the people but the Constitution gives the authority to the States to decide how to make that determination, so the decision of the State legislature to appoint the Trump electors stands. House Democrats could vote to impeach Trump, but two-thirds of the Senate are not going to vote to convict.

And that is how democracy ends in the United States of America.

It's clear that If Biden wins the WH, Dems will immediately move to pack the courts to increase their political power. As part of their power-grab, Dems will undoubtedly move to get rid of the 2nd Amendment. Don't let these leftwing radicals get away with it, vote Trump!!! #MAGA

As opposed to the GOP who actively prevented the Obama administration from filling court seats so that right-wing judges could be installed again ?

And as opposed to a Republican President who openly admits that he wants to install a SCOTUS judge so they can directly influence the outcome of the election.

Every single thing that President Trump and his minions say is sheer projection.

You expressed my exact thoughts!

#Durham BREAKING: The primary sub-source for the Steele dossier was deemed a possible “national security threat” + the subject of 2009 FBI counter-intel probe. According to new records, those facts were known to Crossfire Hurricane team in December 2016. @LindseyGrahamSC

Working hard in New Mexico. I built the Wall (security) and will totally protect your Second Amendment (The Dems want to obliterate it!). Will be there soon!

Over in the coronavirus thread, I posted a link to Trump claiming that the FDA's proposed new safety guidelines for a coronavirus vaccine are a political move against him.

I remember when I was in Second Grade (7 or 8 years old), overhearing a classmate complaining to her friends that the employees at the local McDonalds had deliberately added things to which she was allergic to her food "just to make me sick". As if the employees were lurking in the shadows, watching and cackling evilly at their plot to make this specific customer sick.
Most children grow up and realize that the entire universe doesn't revolve around them.

As I was typing this, I remembered a really old Peanuts comic. One of the characters was talking to Lucy.
"Do you think there's intelligent life on other planets?"
"Definitely not. If there was they certainly would have tried to contact me by now."

I can't help but wonder if Trump would give a similar answer.
