Incredible foresight from Thatcher to gut working class communities, so that 40 years later Tories can point gleefully at regions full of neglected white kids and go "look, racism doesn't exist."

Especially when they've spent the last decade undoing most or all of the previous Labour governments' programmes aimed at tackling poverty, and in particular childhood poverty.

They're looking more and more like the GOP in the US, reduce funding to the point that government institutions stop working and then cut funding further because said government institutions are ineffective.

Are we in Little Britain?

"After a long day of lying to the Prime Minister, my aide and I returned to my office.
Whilst closing the door, my legs started to fall off and she gave me mouth to mouth to resuscitate me.
As far as I'm concerned, case closed. End of story."

Michael Rosen tweeted

@MichaelRosenYes
I see that George Osborne has become the new Chair of the British Museum. I've asked him how he got the job. How do people get these jobs? How did they arrive at him? Did they just ring him up? No one's ever rung me to offer me a job like that. I didn't invent austerity, though.

Well, it may be cold comfort to Dominic Cummings now, but further evidence has emerged that shows that senior government aids did desperately need eye tests.

"I accept that I breached the social distancing guidance in these circumstances."

Having an affair with an aide that he appointed and his first thought is to apologise for 'getting too close to her'?

The crap we have to put up with on a daily basis.

Hancock will go.

Hancock previously said it 'would not be possible' for Sage head Ferguson, to keep his job as he flouted the coronavirus social distancing rules to have secret trysts with his married lover.

It is a scandal if he leaves his role over this rather than being an incompetent arse who lied, diverted Government funds to friends, took decisions and avoided decisions that lead to 1000s of unnecessary deaths.

Lothian 25th June 2021 05:23 AM

Perhaps this is why Boris has kept him in a job. When Boris said he was "******* useless" he could have been referring to her abilities, not to his.

Apparently they've known each other since university. It is possible that their intimate relationship only began when they started working closely together - but IMO that's a stretch.

Even if he only started schtupping her once she was in post, he still gave a plum job to a mate - but that's SOP these days.

He will, but not soon and not because of this. He needs to be around to take all the flak for the government's bungling of Covid-19 especially after the future third and fourth waves kill tens of thousands. Maybe early to mid 2022.

One set of rules for the "little people", a completely different set of rules for people like Matty-boy.

Don't worry, he cannot resign over anything like this otherwise other members of the government would have to be held to some sort of standard too - and that's not going to happen IMO.

Vixen 25th June 2021 06:07 AM

It is rotten for the cuckolded wife and other husband and their kids, but I have never laughed so hard at a recent news story. Then there was Grant Shapps trying to keep a straight face claiming Gina, the love interest, would have been hired properly. AFAICS she was in marketing. Can't see what that has to do with the Department of Health.

NED post are very sought after. A few hours work a week and a handsome remuneration plus expenses. In my profession, we were warned that we would be inundated with NED job offers, once qualified, as under corporate governance guidance all large corporations and public bodies have to employ a Non-Executive Director to oversee the auditing functions.

This £15,000 NED role (for maybe even just one afternoon a month) should have been properly advertised as far too many of these roles go to personal friends and especially relatives. I recall an MP a few years back paying his wife £25,000 a year for nothing much that was discernable. Considering that the government roles are funded by the taxpayer, there should be an inquiry into this corrupt practice.

I think he will find that voters may not consider the matter closed - and I don't expect we'll be seeing Hancock given an opportunity to sit in the rose garden to explain how he interpreted "hands face space" as "hands face arse".

As long as people can go on their hollybobs to the Med this summer, the pubs stay open and not too many people who matter (i.e. people we know personally) die in the third and fourth waves then the electorate couldn't care less.

Despite the complete bungling of Covid on almost every level, the success of the vaccination programme has made Boris Johnson and his government unassailable in the eyes of the majority of the English electorate and, more importantly, in the eyes of the media they consume.

The crap we have to put up with on a daily basis.

You can imagine the conversation with his wife, "Darling, I'm so sorry but when you see todays papers... I... I... I don't know how to tell you but... I broke social distancing guidelines and they have pictures"

In an earlier time he'd be resigning to spend more time with his family, but that tradition ended when Jo Johnson resigned in order to spend less time with his.

Lothian 25th June 2021 08:43 AM

Rubbish at his job, caught lying, having an affair with a work colleague but at least he stands by his ministers.

Non-executive director at the DoH gets paid, essentially, £1 000 a day...For doing what exactly?

I ask for myself as a retired senior nurse, with a load of time on my hands I could put to good use, and on behalf of all current and recently retired NHS staff who had to live through the "austerity" inspired hacking to ribbons of our services which the DoH pushed through and the non-execs were apparently all OK with.

What the actual flying **** is a non-exec director there for? Aside from bank account inflating...

Which raises questions of itself.

Yes there is a genuine public interest, but the CCTV was apparently in his office.

There have to be security issues raised by that

I always thought Boris Johnson had a strong anti-social streak in him.

It might be the key to the his popularity as he reflects back the Brit-trait of two fingers in the air. Yah boo shucks to you!

People voted for change and now the country is run by criminals. Does it count as change or has it always been thus?

Sadly, for most of the time we are indeed governed by the same class and as ever high and low society always had a very nasty intersection.

At the moment the best one can say is none of the current cabinet members have (yet...) been convicted of crimes and imprisoned so we are doing better than the Thatcher and Major years!

I think he will then find that as with everything 'voters don't consider closed' it will be forgotten about as soon as something else comes along and completely irrelevant come election time when the Tories win again.

Apparently the people of England like being treated like this and want more of it.

Okay, so She is from Oxford, married to some guy who might be able to get some government interest in his projects. wild speculation ahead...

She gets a job, her husband gets some cash, all they have to do is pretend she is attracted to Matt Hancock. Hancock is too stupid to realize that he is being used.

Wild speculation ceases here.
