The belting that resulted in a $28 billion payout from the US treasury?

Quote:

That's when the government stepped in. Some of the aid came from long-familiar programs. Government-subsidized crop insurance covered some of the losses from flooding. Other payments were unprecedented. The U.S. Department of Agriculture simply sent him a check to compensate him for the low prices resulting from the trade war.

" 'Trump money' is what we call it," Henry said. "It helped a lot. And it's my understanding, they're going to do it again."
Quote:

The announcement aroused little controversy. "I was surprised that it didn't attract more attention," says Joe Glauber, the USDA's former chief economist, who's now a senior research fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute.
...
Glauber sees a risk of "moral hazard" — a situation in which someone is shielded from the consequences of poor decisions. The decision to start the trade war was costly, he says, and the Trump administration, by tapping the federal Treasury, is avoiding the political fallout from that decision. "The sector that is hurt the most, and which would normally complain, all of a sudden it's assuaged by these payments. To me, that's a problem," he says.

Yes, I remember the bribery everyone in the USA paid for. Donny always likes to use Other Peoples' Money without any qualms.

So do you expect these farmers will get that sort of payment again if MTG follows through and gets tariffs increased like she says she wants?

Well, yes. Both parties know that it would be a PR disaster not to keep a hand under the family farmers (even if Big Agro ends up taking the majority of such a bailout).

shemp 29th July 2021 11:52 AM

Meanwhile, the 4 G's (Greene, Gaetz, Gohmert and Gosar) show up to "inspect conditions" at a federal prison where insurrectionists are being held, and get the bum's rush.

Did you notice they were all wearing those 'horrible, unscientific, ineffective, freedom killing' masks? Or the headline where the 4G's were inspecting the prison for "political prisoners"?

But no. It's a Dem president in the Oval Office. So the GOP will automatically oppose it out of sheer spite. Just ask Mitch. MTG will go along with it because she's dumb as a box of spanners with no spanners.

RolandRat 1st August 2021 12:46 PM

Don't think it's been mentioned yet:

"Marjorie Taylor Greene tried to make a mockery of the US Capitol’s mask rules by setting up a “Covid Checkpoint Charlie” in the Rotunda.

The Republican representative erected a fake barrier under the famous dome in the centre of the US Capitol to protest newly reinstated mask mandates.

In footage posted to Ms Greene’s Twitter account on Friday, she beckons two masked people to pass through the “checkpoint”, consisting of a rope and stand placed in the middle of the Rotunda.

“That’s the House side, Nancy Pelosi will have you arrested,” she whispers while smirking and shooting a glance at the camera.

“This is the Senate side, come on.”

Soon afterwards the rope and stands are taken away by security."

I've never seen anyone so intent on making an ass of herself as MTG. I've got to hand it to her; she's doing an excellent job.

At one point, Gohmert tries to argue that he has a “top secret clearance,” so he should be allowed in.

As someone in the comments points out, attempting to gain unauthorized access to a govt facility by deliberately misrepresenting the scope of a security clearance is a Federal crime.

Its the new way for politicians to be elected. Just make a giant ass of yourself and get in on name recognition.

Hell, posting video of yourself running down the street naked with your hair on fire is worth at least 50% of the vote in any election.

That's the problem when you try to deal with a petulant child by taking their toys away. You give them a lot of free time to act up.

Nah, Marvel will send her a cease and desist order on using Cap's uniform.
I am waiting for the meltdown when it sinks in the next Captain America is going to be an African American.
(It was implied in the last scenes of "Endgame" and confirmed in the last episode of "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier).

I'm wondering if Marj is maybe starting to run out of material to work with? This latest doesn't seem too well thought out to me. I could see the reaction, even among her fans, ranging from disinterest to actual disapproval. No matter what you think about 'The Steal,' the people who invaded the Capitol were clearly breaking the law as well as setting a very bad precedent. To protest the conditions under which they are being jailed, well that sounds like a namby pamby issue libs would embrace, not right-thinking, conservative Americans.

Like the former Republican consultant said, Greene is in a feedback loop with supporters. She has to provide, not just antics but antics her supporters enjoy, in order to motivate them to keep sending cash. If she starts staging clunkers, well then, the supporters stop sending in the cash. Then the 'wheels come off the wagon,' as they used to say. ;)

Recently, MTG suggested to a crowd that when vaccinators (she calls them police state friends of Joe Biden) come to your door, you should show them just how much they love the 2nd amendment in Alabama.

This YT link has the clip in it, along with some commentary.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPkC...avidPakmanShow

It is very difficult to get my head around what is happening in the U.S. I was driving to my poker game last night and listening to the radio and vaccination resistance was being talked about and it is just so difficult to wrap my brain around this. Why would people be so resistant to this? People are dying and it's getting worse in some areas every day.

How can advocating resistance to public health measures where that resistance leads to mass sickness and death (and economic damage) be a viable political platform? I just don't get it.

It's become a test of political belief I guess.

To demonstrate your faithfulness to the Republican party, you have to make a "sacrifice", in this case by not getting vaccinated and therefore being at much higher risk of catching and dying of Covid.

Back in the middle ages you were expected to demonstrate your faithfulness to the church by sacrificing by fasting and donating money.

In both cases those at the top quite often didn't see the need to make the same kind of sacrifice.

MTG is vaccinated. Why else would she throw some flak out like the HIPAA nonsense when asked?
