Person: "I was taken out of context."
Society: "Are you going to clarify the context that you meant it in and that it wasn't horrible?"
Person: "LOL No."

These aren't attempts at a genuine defense--they're just incantations that allow their supporters to keep supporting them. Their marks will invent whatever justification is needed to satisfy themselves.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted

@RepMTG
Today, I sent this letter to Joe Biden to demand an immediate investigation into Anthony Fauci’s lies and his potential involvement in the cover up of the origins of the China virus.

The American people deserve answers on the Wuhan lab & Fauci deserves to be held accountable!

In addition to Marj wanting an answer "by June 31st," she also wrote, "According to the Center for Disease Control, as of June 3rd...593,000 people have died..." We actually passed 593,000 on May 4th. Below is Resume's post in the coronavirus thread from May 5th.

Fine. We can start with Trump's dismantling of the infectious disease docs in place in China. Among other things.

Stacyhs 5th June 2021 11:36 AM

FactCheck.org has found that "Conservative pundits and viral social media posts have now mischaracterized some of those emails in an effort to discredit Fauci." For a more detailed explanation of what actually happened, read the entire Fact Check article provided.

Quote:

The Washington Post and BuzzFeed News each filed Freedom of Information Act requests for Dr. Anthony Fauci’s emails and published that correspondence on June 1, showing how the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases navigated the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The batch of emails requested by the Post were from March and April 2020, while BuzzFeed News’ spanned January to June 2020. BuzzFeed News also posted all of the 3,234 pages of the emails it got on a separate site.

Conservative pundits and viral social media posts have now mischaracterized some of those emails in an effort to discredit Fauci. We’ll look at three issues: what Fauci was told about the origins of the coronavirus, what he knew about the drug hydroxychloroquine and what he said about the use of face masks.
Quote:

The posts and commentary point to the Jan. 31, 2020, email as proof that “Fauci knew the virus was likely engineered,” as one Facebook post puts it, or that something suspicious happened regarding an analysis published by Andersen and other scientists weeks later, concluding that “SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus.”
Quote:

But Andersen said the email shows “a clear example of the scientific process.” In his June 1 tweet, Andersen said, “As I have said many times, we seriously considered a lab leak a possibility. However, significant new data, extensive analyses, and many discussions led to the conclusions in our paper.”
Quote:

Fox News host Laura Ingraham highlighted the Jan. 31 email on her June 2 show >snip< ...

Ingraham then says: “Now, mysteriously, Andersen’s article debunking the lab leak theory and also signed by the other colleagues of course was a 180-degree turn from what he told Fauci in January,” saying that Fauci “influenced it.”

But Andersen said there was nothing mysterious about the change of his earlier opinion, nor was it a “massive cover-up” as one Australian journalist alleged on Twitter. “It’s just science. Boring, I know, but it’s quite a helpful thing to have in times of uncertainty,” Andersen said.

Quote:

“This is a textbook example of the scientific method where a preliminary hypothesis is rejected in favor of a competing hypothesis as more data become available and analyses are completed,” he (Andersen) said.

As we’ve written recently, while scientists have found SARS-CoV-2 is similar to bat coronaviruses, the exact origins of SARS-CoV-2 remain unknown. The zoonotic transfer theory, which Fauci says he believes is “most likely,” hasn’t been proven, nor have theories of a lab accident.

But there have been many calls for more investigation, including by Fauci himself.

One of them is MTG herself and another is already in Congress, so it's actually just 17 more, but yeah.

Yes.

But Trump is busily stumping for that sort of candidate, one GOP get-together after another. (E.G., an hour and a half speech just yesterday at the North Carolina Repugnican Party State Convention.)

And that's the important part. MTG didn't win just because she is a wacko nutcase. She is a wacko nutcase who got the Repugnican Party's backing. At which point she was a shoo-in in a district which was much more than comfortably red.

Trump remains the Pied Piper to the leadership of the GOP. As long as that remains true then this sort of candidate will always have a chance of winning.

A good chance, sadly.

Norman Alexander 6th June 2021 07:35 PM

True. But when even Corey Lewandowsky is telling the Mango Moron that he did NOT win the last election, and will NOT be reinstated come August, the remaining candidates the Donster Monster is stumping for are being whittled down to a bunch of flat-out cross-eyed toothless loons and morons, barely better than farm animals, who make even MTG look half sane and reasonable. At some point, even the current GOP will say "We want to actually win, not get our people out of the County looney bins, Don. We'll take it from here..."

How many votes can Corey Lewandowsky bring to the polls?

A significant percentage of the electorate are Trump devotees first and Party faithful afterward. And that percentage also constitutes a very large chunk of the GOP base.

Going against Trump requires both personal integrity and a spine on the part of any GOP hopeful.

Would you like to discuss how prevalent those qualities are within the leadership of the Repugnican Party? Or how much they are welcomed and respected by them?

The forgiveness concept lowers the bar so that more people will join the church and put cash in the collection plate. What a great club where you can screw up as bad as you want and still be considered a great person!

It's like a diet where you can eat all you want and still lose weight. Total scam.

I understand fully. And yet the T**** era is starting to fade into the rear-view mirror if Lewandowsky is openly disagreeing with him.

It appears the GOP as a party is shrinking, leaving moderates out more and more because they don't kowtow to the Divine One's imperial words any more. Even Mike Pence, his own veep and right-wing wimp, is distancing himself.

That leaves a just core of hard-case reeking stupid with T**** as the kernel, and there are pockets of geography where these people are known to congregate. At this time this core of nutters is sizeable, but even so the level of actual T****'s personal support has already shrunk from the 2020 levels and especially after 6-Jan. Witness his failed blog website - clearly his hard-core supporters were not flocking to his word there.

Those who have moved away may well be seeking other far-right gurus, and some GOP candidates are positioning themselves as the T****-alternatives. MTG is one of these - I'm sure she has enough chutzpah to want to take over that crown. Although she clearly hasn't the brains.

Judging by the last administration, there doesn't seem to be any actual evidence that this is a necessary prerequisite.

Greene says that SARS-CoV-2 must be a bioweapon because God wouldn't create it and she doesn't believe in evolution.

Quote:

Greene made the remarks during an interview on Steve Bannon’s podcast in which they discussed COVID-19 origin theories. Bannon asked her if she believed in gain of function research, in which scientists deliberately enhance pathogens in a lab to study them and prepare for future pandemics. She responded:

"No, I don’t buy it because I don’t believe in evolution. I don’t believe in that type of so-called “science” [uses air quotes]. I don’t believe in evolution, I believe in God and these viruses were not making people sick until they created them and […] weaponize these viruses to be able to attach to our cells and make us sick. This has caused so many people to die all over the world. This is a bio-weapon."

JoeMorgue 14th June 2021 08:38 AM

*Shrugs* Most of Congress probably doesn't believe in Evolution, just by playing the statistics. She's not worst for saying it out loud.

I wonder how all those viruses like smallpox and flu and that killed people before the 20th century were created by humans? Those scientists in the Middle Ages had far more sophisticated labs than we knew!

Does she also think God didn't invent bacteria or just viruses?

MTG doesn't think "God would do that" but I'd bet you she thinks God created the HIV virus to punish all those 'sinning, pervert homos'.

MTG is really working hard for the title of "Most Stupid Person in Congress" title. Gohmert had better watch out as she's coming up fast.

JoeMorgue 14th June 2021 10:05 AM

Yeah we've literally put more actual thought into it in the last 4 posts than she has her entire life.

God works in mysterious ways, what more do you need?

Trebuchet 14th June 2021 10:08 AM

HIV, of course, is easy. It's God's punishment for gay people. And heterosexuals in Africa.

Accuracy requires that attributing the bolded part to her is a stretch beyond her words, even if one suspects she believes it.

If you brought that up to MTG, she'd claim that she was talking about viruses only and that the plague is caused by a bacteria (after someone with some intelligence explains to her the difference between a virus and bacteria).
