Repubs have done that for a long time.

I just meant that if the Dems supported puppies and kittens the Repubs would automatically have to be against it because they aren't supposed to agree on anything these days.

It was reported Greene’s campaign disputes the account of why the rally was cancelled by Pacific Hills. The Register also noted, "They’re still selling tickets for a rally..." But while they are STILL advertising the event, a new location has yet to be found and time is running out.

But when the 'Brain Trust' put their minds to it, anything is possible. Correct? ;)

It may be, and I think that was of appropriate intent. If you want the chance of satire hitting home, the target must be able to identify with the character. If you avoid any positive characterization, the point can fly over one's head and just reassure "that's not me."

Or, if you want to leave intended messaging out of it--if the character is completely unlikeable he's less interesting.

Then again, that would have sailed clear over the heads of a significant proportion of the audience and they would simply have revelled in Archie Bunker's reactionary and racist views. :(

I've had more than one acquaintance use Archie Bunker as their Facebook profile picture.

They done it. Found a venue. The Riverside Convention Center in Riverside California, located about 25 miles east of Anaheim.
Quote:

Republican U.S. Reps. Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene have moved Saturday’s planned America First rally east, from Orange County to Riverside, after their original venue abruptly canceled them last week and their teams spent a week trying to find a new O.C. location. Riverside Press Enterprise link
This was the part I liked. Gaetz and Greene said they won’t share where the event will be held until Friday, citing “security concerns.”

Okay, sure.

Greene’s spokesman Nick Dyer confirmed the move to Riverside on Thursday.
Right on, Nick! ;)

Is it near a gardening centre? Or a dildo outlet?

Same with the original here. You were meant to laugh at Alf Garnett and his views but a heck of a lot of Brits were found to be nodding and saying he had a point.

The Riverside Area BLM office (the OTHER BLM) is considered the place in Califfornia you DON"T want to be posted to. Even El Centro is better.

Best laid plans. After the Riverside venue cancelled them, Gaetz and Greene got a third venue in Anaheim for tonight. But it sounds like they took the City of Anaheim by surprise. Once the city realized what was planned -- and after local residents complained -- the city cancelled the event (apparently this afternoon). ABC News says (in a report filed less than two hours ago):

Quote:

[Anaheim] spokesman Mike Lyster said city officials “shared our public safety concerns with the operator and the operator shares the concerns,” the Press-Enterprise reported. "We respect free speech and we are capable of holding events,” Lyster said. “But it was the lack of advance notice for an event that would attract the attention at the level this one would that has raised issues for our city.” Lyster also said city officials had "concerns about the nature of the event and that it does not reflect the city of Anaheim and the values we share.”

Gaetz said on Twitter that they would be holding a protest outside City Hall in Riverside, where one of the events was canceled. An Anaheim spokesman had announced the latest cancellation hours before the rally was scheduled to begin. ABC News link
The rally protesting the cancellations is scheduled to start about three hours from now, 8 o'clock local time. It's billed as a protest "against communism."

Lousy COMMIES!

LongFuzzy 17th July 2021 05:47 PM

The Anaheim venue is just a couple of blocks from Disneyland. The city council and Disney don't always get along, but in this case maybe they both thought that nazi skin head fascists are 'bad show'?

My bad. The "Protest Communism" rally was scheduled for 5 pm local time not 8 pm. It's already underway! From The Beast posted a few minutes ago.

Quote:

Instead of speaking to a packed arena, the pair were left with the sidewalk outside the Riverside City Hall. Greene used the “Peaceful Protest Against Communism” to hawk vaccine hesitancy. She urged the crowd, “Don’t let them force your kids to wear masks at school. Don’t let your kids be forced to take a vaccine that’s not FDA approved.” Meanwhile, coronavirus cases in California are surging as the more contagious Delta variant rips through the unvaccinated population.

Gaetz, who is currently under federal investigation for sex trafficking and abuse of a minor, railed against “the corrupt forces in the Department of Justice and the FBI” and complained that the private venues’ refusals to host the pair amounted to an infringement on their freedom of speech. “They may try to cancel us online, they may try to pursue us in real life, they may shut down our venues, but we will take this fight to them in the courts, in the halls of Congress, and if necessary in the streets,” he said. The Beast link

Stacyhs 17th July 2021 06:09 PM

After being cancelled by three different venues in California -- Pacific Hills, Riverside and Anaheim -- Gaetz and Greene are appearing before a crowd in front of Riverside City Hall. Greene spoke first:
Quote:

They spoke before a cheering crowd — estimated at more than 300 — waving Greene and Gaetz signs. Greene took the microphone first, saying “the America First message is for everyone.” She said the news media smeared Donald Trump in hopes of making citizens hate him — but it failed. Greene also called the major news networks’ coverage of last year’s protests misinformed and inaccurate. “Here’s what they need to understand,” she said. “We’re going to put America first, we will not back down.” San Bernardino Sun link

In other words, the venues that had the right to cancel their performances did, while their freedom to speak and assemble was honored...and all they can think to do is whine about communism instead of celebrating the prevalence of true democracy.

gnome 17th July 2021 07:19 PM

There's another bit that turns up inconsistent among MTG's fans. "They're lying to make people hate Trump" and yet at the same time celebrating each and every one of Trump's own open efforts to mock and alienate people that disagree. They like it that he makes people hate him, but then get mad and cry fake when that leads to dropping poll numbers and massive voter turnout against him.

gypsyjackson 18th July 2021 05:30 AM

Not sure Matt Gaetz should be in the business of telling kids they shouldn’t be forced to do things.

This so-called anti-communist stance against anti-racists reminds me of when Rock Against Racism was popular; the Rock Against Communism counter movement was particularly unsavoury.

Thank you, Southern California for showing up even though the communists tried to cancel us!! Twitter link
Around 300 people showed up for the Gaetz/Greene sidewalk rally and Marj is thanking ALL of Southern California? I also notice that 'socialists' has been replaced by 'communists.' Probably Greene's 'team' decided: "Communist sounds better."

Marj and Matt also visited Huntington Beach. Here is a link to video of their 'beach walk.' I wasn't going to post it but, mercifully, it's only 23 seconds long. Twitter video link I finally watched it but gave up when the assembled 'crowd' began to yell, "Free-DOM." :(

Can I suggest that the vast majority of these onlookers were probably local gawkers who thought it may have been movie stars or someone like that parading on the beach, not this pair of self-promoting twerps. The number of "true followers" would have been a few dozen...not a huge crowd at all.

Also, the whole thing looks HIGHLY staged. Everyone lined up and all. Smile and wave! And where are the two twerps walking TO? The Commie California ocean?

I've seen larger crowds at kindergarten nativity plays.

newyorkguy 18th July 2021 02:39 PM

I think the main purpose of these activities, at least for Marjorie Greene, is fundraising among donors across the US. She has proven to be a prolific fundraiser but, as a former Republican campaign consultant said, she's in a feedback loop. She has to provide ongoing antics in order for the donors to continue sending cash. How much political value is there for a Congress member from Northwest Georgia to go to trouble and expense to appear before 300 people in Southern California? Probably none at all. But the video, the fiery speech, the accusations, that is all undoubtedly done for the entertainment of her many donors.

She seems to lack any self awareness at all.
