Note to fellow Newbs. Make sure you select no to the weekly subscription reminder. Because otherwise you'll be deleting emails all day and get really annoyed by all the notifications pinging on your phone. Especially if you're trying to listen to music on it. Irritating. - Yep And there's another one. Ridiculous.

Good tip, Malfie. You can keep up with the threads you post to by using the User CP, a link to which is up at the top left.

Greetings all, just joining.
I had been spending too much time debating in a wide scattering of transitory comment forums, including the eternally undependable Yahoo News forums. I have wanted to join the fray here in a much more consistent forum, and hope to bring my expertise to the fray as well as use the experts in this group as a sounding board. I am glad to be on board and hope that we can learn from each other, although I am aware I can't change other people no matter how many facts I feel like throwing in their face. I myself will do my best to listen and understand. |
Hey! I am a relative newbie, both to the JREF and skepticism in general. I am an artist with a casual interest in astronomy, and I am hoping to bring a little more art into skepticism while I learn more about the science aspects.

Hi LSSBB and ologies.
I don't know where the newb greeters are. They usually can smell fresh meat from miles away, and come running to this thread with promises of stimulating conversation, lively debate, and braised rabbit (if it's in season). Me, I make no promises. I come and go as I please, and may or may not leave the toilet seat up. Anywho, welcome to pledge week. If you have any questions, we will be assigning sponsors on Thursday. (Which is actually a good idea) |

Welcome, neverthelss. (I just didn't want you getting too attached to the cute little thing.) |
Hi from Hull (UK).
This place looks like a resource for much that I discuss. Although I really should stop taking on 9/11 twoofers in forums. It gets so repetitive. But after reading Dutch's website of pseudoscience, I looked for something a bit broader. Environmentalism, energy, etc are subjects I also often discuss, but again I should move to different subjects rather than discussing the same thing all the time. |

Hi all, I'm London, the name London Leistone actuly is a character I have on SL and later became my net persona <shrugz>. Hey it sounds more fun than my real name.
My friend Dezzi introduced me to this forum and so far its pretty cool. About me... Im a big ol photography and post preduction editing geek. I like to do really artistic things with photos and before photography. I was a steet artist before photography so the two things kind of went togather well. Any how yeah thats me. |
Quote:
XLNT. Nobody here has the slightest inkling of artistic talent so you're very welcome indeed. Also I am an inveterate liar. Welcome to the palette, my friend. :) |
Welcome London
|
YOU MONSTERS. I happen to be a rabbit enthusiast...Though I may or may not have consumed a rabbit's hindquarters and liver once. Ah, well, if I eat something, it might as well be cute, right?
Thanks for the welcomes :> Will hopefully find a comfortable home here. I assume this place is probably much like I imagine and there aren't too many artists (save for myself and now apparently Londonleistone) - is there a place that would be appropriate to perhaps show and tell a bit of artsiness? I promise some skeptic-related treats, as well. :q |
Hi all. Just joined JREF and got approved this morning. Back from school and on here. After doing some extensive 9/11 work I had to join this forum and be a part of this fantastic community. I've heard nothing but great things about this Forum and see a profuse fountain of true critical thinking and real skepticism used and promoted on here so I am proud to become a member. :D

The fiends in the welcome thread will not listen to your pleas for mercy. :( Stay far away from them if you value your life and don't want to be kitty-kabobs. But welcome to the forum, anyway, FluffyPersian, with all its sordid appetites, killings, and cannibalism (have you seen how many cat avatars there are here? And they still treat cats as food in the welcome thread). If you are interested in fighting the good fight, I'm willing to storm the barricades again. |

Hello, I'm fairly new to skeptical thinking. I started listening to Skeptoid and wondered what else there might be on the net. This seems like a great place to start.

I wasn't saying that, myself. Just pointing out that certain parties think like that. I'd never eat a fluffy kitty, myself. The thought repulses me. (Shave 'em down, though? Well, pass the horseradish!) |
Well, my cat tries to eat me, so turnabout is fair play.
I'm kidding, she don't bite that hard so I don't bite her that hard in return. Welcome everyone. ETA; Now if I only had some claws too, to just jump up from a comfortable relaxed situation and claw the crap out of her when I saw something move outside the window. Then the reciprocity would be overwhelming. |
Hey there
Long time poster over at Baut. Finally registered here Pete |
Just a reminder of the special menu available this week only.

Hi chaps
Sometime lurker and long time skeptic. I was compelled to join after I came across one the bigfoot threads and was seriously stunned by the stupid therein.... |
Hi Super.
Love the name. It, like, means a bunch of different stuff. Do let us know when you find evidence of bigfoot. I can't hike without either seeing footprints or finding scat that can't have come from a known species. Toss in some UFO stuff and hieroglyphics and go for a trifecta. |
Welcome Super, have some of my fresh goats milk

I Am Who I Am, Seeking Your Skeptical Opinion!
Hello, my Forum Name is currently: I Am Who I Am
My real name is Daniel Nicolas Martin, Age 20 from Windsor Ontario. I consider myself to be a Theorist, in both the Real World and the Paranormal, but it's especially the Paranormal is the reason why I'm here talking to you right now. For the better part of a Year and a Half I've been participating as a Forum Psychic on Prophecies.us under the Alias of Ryan Nicolas Radcliffe, and just recently on Spiritual Philosophy and Practice.com under the Alias of I Am Who I Am I am here because I am seeking Public Opinion and Scrutiny on my Work as a Forum Psychic on these 2 Forums. The purpose is not only just to look at what I've done and for you to provide your opinion, but because you are the Forum People of JREF I ask of you to come up with any ideas as to how I could be tested for the $1 Million Challenge and/or if I even should..... Feel free to go to those websites right now and see for yourself what I have available (Please note that on Prophecies.us only my last 200 of my 631 Posts can be looked at due to a limitation issue, on Spiritual Philosophy and Practice.com this is very new and recent and will be easier to look at.), however I would like to share with you the Links of what I consider to be "Confirmed Hits" I've had, but due to what I got in the e-mail when I signed-up ( *For the first 15 posts you may not post links to external sites. *No avatar or signature option until you have made 50 posts.) I doubt I can do that so if an Administrator can fix that please I would like to get straight down to business..... I'm also joining you guys because I need a change of pace. Simply put, working with just Spiritualists and Psychics can become very biased and single-minded, and it's time I work on "the other side of the equation" so to speak.... I want to learn and understand from your guys perspectives so that I can become more whole-minded and collected in my knowledge, experience, and understanding. I've been the Psychic and the Paranormal Theorist, now it's time for me to be the Skeptic and the Scientific Theorist. Thank you and Enjoy, I look forward to what you guys have to say, and I look forward to working and collaborating with you!;) P.S I sent an e-mail earlier this week to Banachek JREF, and I understand that it's alot of work to go through those links and that you want me to apply to the Challenge, but until I can get a working Printer that wont be happening anytime soon (not even my Public Libraries will do it, I've already tried they keep having technical issues......?), also I've been keeping this a Secret form my Family on their behalf due to Social Issues so any Publicity or Actions on my part would be a problem for now. Plus I already tried getting the opinion of College/University Profs for Opinions but they don't want the involvement so that part's busted, and the Medical Opinion is also a no-go due to Trust Issues and Poor Medical Practices (I don't trust them, they don't have a recent good track-record in Windsor.) and I have no means like Money or Support to get a Plane ticket to get to you guys anyways so that just sucks....and besides, All I really want for now is Public Opinion from some Clear-Minded Skeptics and people who know how to look at Forum Postings, that's why I'm posting here in the JREF Forums! Rest Assured though, if there's good common-sense and proper grounds for actually testing whatever it is I've been doing all these years, I'll take the Challenge (Call me greedy, but that 1-Mil's looking really good right about now.....*Haz-evil grin and ideas.....mua-ha-ha-ha-haaaaaa:D) because I think I might be able to win it if there's an actual way to do it that's not crazy and stupid, and that I'm not crazy and stupid.....*nuf-said! |
Wow, I Am Who I Am (may I call you I Am, or IAWIA?),that's a super-long Welcome post. I am not the best person to answer all your questions, but I'll try to give you some pointers on what might be of the most interest to you.
First off, theories are great. But in my mind, they are opinion. You will be asked to provide exidence of any psychic ability. Don't expect that anyone here will follow any links that you say are proof. I suggest your first step is to read a bunch on the Million Dollar Challenge. Like the JREF Challenge FAQ, which I suggest you read in its entirety: http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/...lenge-faq.html You might want to read some of the other applicants for the Million Dollar Challenge: http://www.internationalskeptics.com...splay.php?f=43 And you might find some interesting discussions dealing with Geneal Skepticism and The Paranormal: http://www.internationalskeptics.com...isplay.php?f=7 Now I am someone that needs a Smithwicks, when does this threads bar close? |
What a long intro, I think some one escaped from the farm, But thats just my opinion
|
COLONEL, sir, I edited my last post with a request.

What the heck, no fresh recruits all weekend?
I think we need to start infiltating the known hangouts of woo-minded associations. Maybe I'll go to Salem in a few weeks. |

Salem MA. It's awesome during Halloween. I can actually get myself just scared enough to have it be exciting.
"Maybe there are ghosts. What was that noise? If someone hanged me for being a witch, I'd come back seeking revenge." |
I have friends who live a few blocks from the museums down town. I've never been there for Halloween, though.
|
You should try to visit them some year. All the accomodations are booked this year no doubt, and are pretty expensive anyway.
There is a lot a fun things to do: http://www.salemweb.com/calendar/?month=10 (end of page) Some friends and I would drive up or take the train, all dressed up. One year I went as a WWI doughboy, carrying a real training rifle (wood and metal and bolt-action, but not possible to be modified). The police weren't happy. |
