He accidently went to the party thinking it was a meeting, the interior designer accidently went to the party as she wanted to speak to the PM about the wallpaper, Carrie accidently went to the meeting because.?

I can hear him now

Newsnight now reporting of the £72 billion given in bounce back loans, £21 billion likely to be written off at the tax payers expense.

Only 2 people vetting the applications which was “woefully inadequate”.

The Don 26th January 2022 01:49 AM

Ministers are lining up to back Boris Johnson which leads me to think that they've been tipped off that Sue Gray's report completely exonerates him....

...and by completely exonerates I mean that there isn't quite enough hard evidence to establish that what he did was illegal.

Doubtless a lot of evidence has been destroyed, and a lot more ignored because of the tight remit of the investigation but it'll be enough for the Conservatives to claim that everything is OK and Boris Johnson will at least lead them into the local elections.

We'll now be asked to ignore this "distraction" because of the crisis in Ukraine, Covid success, France being big meanies over Brexit or whatever else can be found to distract us.

Correct me if I'm wrong but:
  • The increase in National Insurance was announced by the Conservatives. They don't get to be the cause of and the solution to the problem at the same time
  • The government has no plans to tackle the energy shortage
  • The income squeeze has largely been caused by the government's policies and they voted against a Labour Party proposal to ameliorate it somewhat by removing VAT on fuel
  • Importing more and producing less is a direct result of this government's terrible management of Brexit and the trade deals they have negotiated which are highly disadvantageous to the UK

IOW he wants to deflect scrutiny from one area of government incompetence by drawing focus to several other areas where they have cocked things up right-royally.:boggled:

So, Lulu Lyttle was present in Downing Street on the day of BlowJob's birthday party because she was working on the re-fit...

And yet in the following November BlowJob is tapping up Brownlow for money as Lulu was keen to get started on the re-fit...

Is she a ******* Time Lord or what? Does the re-fit include a Tardis module?

The Don 26th January 2022 07:35 AM

Once again, Boris Johnson is proven to be a lying liar. It was claimed that Boris Johnson had intervened to make sure that animals from a high profile shelter were evacuated when allies were left behind but Boris Johnson denied that he had.

Turns out that there was evidence that he had.

Quote:

Boris Johnson authorised the evacuation of animals from Afghanistan during the fall of Kabul, according to emails leaked by a whistleblower.

The PM has previously dismissed as "nonsense" claims he intervened in the evacuation of the Nowzad charity, run by former Royal Marine Pen Farthing.

But an email from an official in minister Zac Goldsmith's office suggests he was personally involved.

It's not just that they're taking us for mugs, it's that they're so brazen about it and/or so incompetent at covering their tracks although at this stage it seems more like a deliberate flex than incompetence.

Ah yes but numbers 10, 11 and 12 Downing Street are both homes and work places so I'm sure that an interpretation can be found that shows that, strictly speaking, Boris Johnson didn't break the rules dozens of times. ;)

Trudy Harrison, PM's PPS, contacted a private charter company on 25 Aug 21 (same date as FCO letter) to secure plane to evacuate animals and staff for Nowzad. A private sponsor funded, but she made clear her role with PM and told staff he was keen to get animals out quickly.

Source at the company said Harrison was keen to get press on the plane to watch animals being evacuated to turn it into a good news story. They added she repeatedly talked about "the boss" and they felt it was obvious her requests came with his backing.

Harrison confirmed to Sky she did contact a number of companies to help "as a constituency MP" (but none of her constituents were directly involved). She admits she did tell staff she was PPS to PM but states Boris Johnson was not involved in any plans around evacuation.

It is notable that her first contact with the charter company, the FCO email (new today) and her letter published weeks ago on same issue all happened on 25 August 21. Dominic Dyer, who worked with Pen Farthing, told Sky PM got involved directly on 25, which unblocked the issues

A No10 spox said: "The PM had no role in authorising individual evacuations from Afghanistan during Op PITTING, including Nowzad staff and animals. At no point did the PM instruct staff to take any particular course of action on Nowzad."

It looks to me like "lefty" is being defined as those who value honesty, integrity, competence, ability, a capacity for critical thought, an awareness of the needs of others, among other things.

In which case, count me in!

We'll ignore my voting history and pretty much everything I have ever said about politics, economics, social issues, environmental issues, or pretty much anything...As that might be a bit of a give away as to where my views lie.

And the thing is, there are people who are naturally conservative in both the US and UK who have no party as they also believe in decency. I can think of several posters here who fit that bill.

Yes, but if I told you in January 2020* that there would be a defence of the PM for an obvious lie including "ambushed by cake" you'd probably think THAT would have to have been satire.

Which is actually something of a fair point. Boris Johnson is a nasty, racist, manipulative liar and a buffoon, but he didn't magically appear as leader of the country. The small minded little-Englanders elected his party, and by extension him.

I miss Cameron. I didn't like him one bit but at least he wasn't...this.

Case in point.

The Met is not objecting to Sue Gray's report being published as long as it redacts anything that they're investigating.

Captain_Swoop 28th January 2022 03:01 AM

Met Police seeks limits to Sue Gray No 10 parties report
.The Metropolitan Police has asked senior civil servant Sue Gray to make "minimal reference" to events they are investigating in her report.

Ms Gray's inquiry into lockdown parties in Downing Street had been due to be released this week.

But the Met has asked her to leave out details of parties they are investigating for Covid rule-breaking.

In a statement, it said it wanted to "avoid any prejudice to our investigation".

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-60166997

Captain_Swoop 28th January 2022 03:05 AM

The problem here is straightforward. The Govt and The Met are fundamentally untrustworthy. They will collaborate at the highest level to ensure the best possible outcome for themselves

How would a factual civil service report about events the police is investigating "prejudice" their investigation?

Well the Met have played an absolute blinder for the government there. ;)

If there is any evidence of wrongdoing, then that must be redacted (because the Met will be investigating anything where there is evidence of wrongdoing) so by definition the report can only contain references to cases where there is no wrongdoing.

The published report will exonerate the government, and whenever the Met report is published in months or years time, it'll be too late and we'll all have forgotten.
