He also said (paraphrasing) "It's ridiculous that I was in a position of power".

So he's reached far and wide to throw everyone under the bus, including himself. We may need more buses at this rate.

Darat 26th May 2021 05:48 AM

So nothing we didn’t know, so nothing that will make any difference. That Johnson such a laugh!

Midsomer used a tank once.....

Not that I'm suggesting rounding up BoJo and his cronies, sycophants and hangers-on, breaking their legs and chasing them cross-country with an armoured vehicle mind.

Yeah you wouldn’t treat an animal that way, oh hold on yes they would……

I'm especially impressed the Cummings keeps blaming 'the government' as if he wasn't part of the whole thing.

He's a genius who is near perfect. If the government had done what he said, things wouldn't be half as bad. They are to blame for not listening to him.

That's the impression I get.

Wudang 26th May 2021 08:50 AM

Don't forget the occasion Cummings editted a blog post from the previous year in an attempt to claim he predicted a pandemic.

Expect similar "revision" here.

Everyone, except Gove, Raab and Sunak, the Brexiteers

Strictly speaking he wasn’t and that is one of the problems with the current arrangement and “special advisors”.

Darat 26th May 2021 10:43 AM

Poor Kuenssberg, struggling so hard to try and keep her mates happy, it’s like being a friend in the middle of a divorcing couple!

Carrot Flower King 26th May 2021 10:58 AM

Didn't say anything we didn't already know really: Johnson not fit for office - errrrr, we knew that at least a decade ago; Hancock tells loadsa lies - obvious since this whole **** show started; no ****** had a real clue what's going on - well, no ****, Sherlock!

Is that it? Is this all? Over-hyped score settling of a very unconvincing type. Another example of an over-promoted, over-entitled, under-talented public schoolboy trying to look hard.

2/10. And stop trying to mark your own homework, Cummings.

angrysoba 26th May 2021 05:30 PM

I'm just going to drop this in here.

I heard some of Cummings talking about his time in office.

I hope nobody pays this obviously self-serving slimeball any attention.

His idea that he was "trying to build something around Johnson" to create good decisions. No! That is like admitting that he was trying a coup from within the government.

Look, we all know that Johnson and Hancock are ridiculous people who have no competence, but Cummings was once of the architects of this failure not some heroic insider.

**** off Cummings!

It says a new state-owned body, Great British Railways (GBR), will set timetables and prices, sell tickets in England and manage rail infrastructure.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps admitted the current system was "too complicated" and "fragmented".

He also promised GBR would be more accountable for delays and disruption.

But private operators will still be contracted to run most trains and the most of the planned reforms will not start coming in until 2023.

Under the reforms:

All tickets will be sold by GBR in the future, ending the system where passengers must buy them from multiple companies online and in stations
There will be a "significant rollout" of more pay as you go, contactless and digital ticketing on smartphones
And from next month flexible season tickets will be available for some people who commute two or three times a week.

They privatised the Victorian (not Queen Victorian) train system. Now on a relatively small railway system there are multiple, incompatible rolling stock that have different parts and maintenance and can't run on all the lines. It's a nightmare. So much money was wasted that should have been spent on obsolete signalling systems.

Because of course he was.

He was "unwise"...

The useless ****** didn't know where the money to pay for it all was coming from...

"Oh, look, Carrie! The money fairies have left us a load of dosh! What luck, just when we needed it to spaff it all on the walls! Who ever would have thought it?"

And yet he hasn't broken the sodding code...

Like Hancock not knowing he was supposed to declare stuff about his sister's company...

FFS! The Code of the Woosters has more force than the ministerial code of conduct.

Darat 28th May 2021 09:50 AM

Hey Hancock only technically breached the ministerial code.

Which I think means he breached the ministerial code but who cares that can do anything about it?

Carrot Flower King 28th May 2021 09:56 AM

How come ignorance of the rules/law is not a defence in any other legal or quasi-legal context in the UK?

HS2 'Eastern Leg' to Leeds is to go ahead.

Shapps says it will cost £106 billion and could even be delivered earlier than planned.
'
There 'further work' needed on how to integrate it with plans for the 'northern powerhouse' rail system.

I think the past few years have shown that the controls on politicians are not fit for purpose. They are reliant on a) politicians being generally honourable ethical people who will abide by the rules and b) those shown not to be a will be voted out by a population who generally want honourable ethical people running things.

Neither a nor b seems to be true anymore.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has married his fiancee Carrie Symonds in a secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral, it has been reported.

The wedding was held in front of close friends and family on Saturday, according to several newspapers.

Downing Street has declined to comment.

Andy_Ross 29th May 2021 02:55 PM

He got married on the cheap so he didn't have to pay much is probably the thing.

Andy_Ross 29th May 2021 03:31 PM

If Boris marrying is Westminster Cathedral is true then, as a Catholic, I would like to know why a twice divorced adulterer was able to and my practising Catholic friend who divorced a husband who battered hell out of her had to re-marry in a registry office.

A new national flagship is to be commissioned by the government in a bid to boost British trade and industry globally, the prime minister has said.

The vessel will be the successor to the Royal Yacht Britannia, which was retired in 1997.

The government plans to build the ship in the UK, at a reported cost of £200m.

The name of the new flagship has yet to be announced, but the Daily Telegraph has suggested the ship will be named after the Duke of Edinburgh, who helped design Britannia.

The new vessel would be used to promote British interests around the world - including hosting trade fairs and diplomatic meetings - as the UK seeks to build links and boost exports following Brexit.

The tendering process for its design and construction will begin soon - with an emphasis on utilising British design expertise and the latest green technology.

Downing Street said costs for the "construction and operation" of the ship would be confirmed after the tendering process concluded.

Construction is set to start as early as next year, with the ship expected to enter service within the next four years.

The vessel, which is set to be in service for about 30 years, will be part of the Royal Navy and crewed by it.

Boris said the flagship would be "the first vessel of its kind in the world" and would reflect "the UK's burgeoning status as a great, independent maritime trading nation.
Every aspect of the ship, from its build to the businesses it showcases on board, will represent and promote the best of British - a clear and powerful symbol of our commitment to be an active player on the world stage,"

I wonder if it will be as good as the Garden Bridge and his other major projects.

I reckon a few tens of millions to his mates and then they buy a second hand punt from Oxford.

Apparently they don't count his first two marriages as they weren't performed in Catholic Churches and the resulting decades of living in sin fathering illegitimate children, and the cheating on the women he was living in sin with, with other women and fathering more illegitimate chikdren, and paying for abortions, don't count if you're PM.

When they start cutting money to essential services, remember that they could afford a yacht.

KDLarsen 30th May 2021 02:45 AM

It's not the first time he's floated that idea, he tried the same thing back in 2017, calling it a great idea if it could be funded privately.

Andy_Ross 30th May 2021 02:54 AM

Crewed by the RN.

That's the same RN that had to lay ships up alongside so it could use the crews to get the aircraft carrier to sea.
