If the NYPD, thru official communication says to do something, then punishes people for doing so, thats a very clear case of entrapment. Not that anyone will be punished or held responsible for it.

Not the same account. One is the 114th Precinct, the other is the 107th Precinct. I have no idea where either of those are, and it's still terrible, but I'm told over and over again on this board that individual police forces are completely separate from each other.

Precincts within the same police force are not. These are just administrative divisions of the NYPD, not distinct and individual police forces.

Google says they're both northern Queens.
"The 114th Precinct is located in the northwestern portion of Queens, and covers Astoria, Long Island City, Woodside, and Jackson Heights."
"The 107th Precinct serves a portion of Northern Queens, containing Fresh Meadows, Cunningham Heights, and Hilltop Village."

It looks like they're about 8-9 miles apart, by road.
 
Three Loveland police supervisors signed off on an officer’s use of force after he threw a 73-year-old woman with dementia to the ground in June 2020, according to an internal police report released Tuesday by the woman’s attorney.

Chief of police lied about supervisors not knowing about this incident. 3 supervisors signed off on barbaric use of force used for the arrest, which has later resulted in the cop being charged with felony assault.

The thorough vetting through multiple levels of police leadership appears to contradict Chief Robert Ticer’s assertion that police did not become aware of the severity of the incident until Garner filed a federal lawsuit in April 2021. The officer broke Garner’s arm and dislocated her shoulder during the arrest, according to the lawsuit.

“We found out, nearly eight months later, that this had occurred,” Ticer said during a May 19 news conference. “We took swift action at that point… I don’t know if we would have found out about that without the federal lawsuit. Perhaps if it would have come in through a different channel — but that’s how we were notified.”

The most violent videos languished for years, lost or ignored in a digital vault. Louisiana State Police troopers and top brass alike would often look the other way, even as officers took to official messaging channels to banter about their brutality.

In one video, white troopers can be seen slamming a Black man against a police cruiser after finding marijuana in his car, throwing him to the ground and repeatedly punching him — all while he is handcuffed.

In another, a white trooper pummels a Black man at a traffic stop 18 times with a flashlight, leaving him with a broken jaw, broken ribs and a gash to his head. That footage was mislabeled and it took 536 days and a lawsuit for police to look into it.

And yet another video shows a white trooper coldcocking a Hispanic drug trafficking suspect as he stood calmly by a highway, an unprovoked attack never mentioned in any report and only investigated when the footage was discovered by an outraged federal judge.

Tohom stepped forward and listed robbery after robbery — Monday at 150 Central Park, yesterday at 100th, another at 67th, knives, guns, machetes, thefts they reported months ago and received no response about, bikes stolen with GPS that police refused to pursue — as the crowd yelled “Help us.”

Last week, Young filed a lawsuit against the National Fraternal Order of Police, which two days after the incident posted a photo of a Philadelphia police officer holding Young’s then-2-year-old son. Philadelphia Police said investigators could not determine who took the photo.

The nation’s largest police union shared the image on Facebook and Twitter alongside captions that read: “This child was lost during the violent riots in Philadelphia … the only thing this Philadelphia Police officer cared about in that moment was protecting this child.”

The group removed the posts within hours, saying in a statement the next day they took them down after learning “of conflicting accounts of the circumstances under which the child came to be assisted by the officer.”

The lawsuit, filed by Young and her child, seeks damages for invasion of privacy and infliction of emotional distress.

Opinions on the emblem have been split, with the Waterloo Commission on Human Rights saying it evoked fear and distrust among some due to its resemblance to a hate group symbol. The Waterloo Police Protective Association, which represents officers, denied racist intent and protested against its removal.

The City Council, in a 5-2 vote last week, ordered the department to remove the symbol from uniforms by the end of September.

If we're being honest I don't really see all that much similarity in the symbol outside of the vague "They are both a dragon (if we want to put on the nerd glasses the police emblem has an obvious beak so its technically a Griffin, but that's iTs nOT a DrAGON it's a WYRim! levels of stupid) and the yellow background.

That being said I'm not overly impressed that the response from the police department seems to be another bog standard "I recognize it bothers you, but I'm going to keep doing it and provide no reason beyond 'because you told me not to.'" piece of contrarianism. Like you can tell the image only meant anything to them when someone else had a problem with it.

I mean maybe just go "While we don't agree that the image is racist and accept no blame in that regard, we acknowledge that the symbol could be misinterpreted that way and cause harm to the community, so we will discontinuing usage of the symbol." You could just, crazy idea, do something nice instead of going "Well I'm not technically in the wrong so I shouldn't change my behavior at all."

There's levels between "Agreeing to stop doing something" and "Agreeing to stop doing something and begging for forgiveness while genuflecting."

US police departments are racist organizations. Given that, it's obvious that the officers of this department like that citizens may feel intimidated by the symbol. Anything to **** with non-whites and liberals is worthwhile to cops.
 
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety would like drivers to keep their license, registration, and insurance card in a transparent plastic sleeve, hanging in a highly visible location, so the police are less likely to panic and shoot them during a traffic stop. If only there was some other way to prevent police officers from randomly killing motorists.

Our troopers, along with several law enforcement agencies across the state, want to make it easier for drivers to store the information and for law enforcement to see when motorists are reaching for documents.

We recently purchased some Not-Reaching Pouches to help reduce deadly force encounters between law enforcement and citizens during traffic stops. The pouches store a driver’s license, and insurance card in plain sight in the vehicle on an air vent or other visible location.

The Department of Justice had the kind of pro-police reform week that doesn’t happen every year. In a seven-day period, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced a ban on chokeholds and no-knock warrants, an overhaul on how to handle law enforcement oversight deals, and a promise to make sure the Justice Department wasn’t funding agencies that engage in racial discrimination.

Popehat has a nice collection of lesser tales of piggishness by the police. Obviously examples of egregious abuse by the police get more press coverage, but it's important to note that cops are also completely worthless in many petty ways as well.

Tales of cops proving themselves to be unhelpful, cruel, and petty tyrants are incredibly common.

One of several:

A friend called the cops after her boyfriend broke her ribs and trashed her apt. Stepping through her broken dishes, the cops laughed and joked about what a huge mess she had to clean up then told her to stop writing so many details in her report.

When my son was carjacked at gunpoint, beat up and thrown out of his car into an unfamiliar neighborhood, it was street people, not cops, who found his car for us. The cop who eventually responded told me it looked like a drug deal gone bad, not a carjacking.

This is a cop story AND a press story I haven’t told in a while. Cops came to arrest a controversial and colorful local politician on Friday of a holiday weekend. Tipped off a reporter and photog from a local paper we’ll call The Angels Times.

But the reporter and photog were late so the cops already had him in the car. They complained. The cops walked the politician in cuffs back into his house and then walked him out again so the photog could get the perp walk shot. Paper ran it.

(That’s because cops will use the press to **** you, and the press will run the picture because they think the picture of a perp walk is news but the cops’ willingness to fake it for you isn’t news.)

Then the cops drove him all over the county for five or six hours so it was too late for him to go to court so he’d stay in custody over the three-day weekend. /end

The family of a gay 24-year-old who died at Rikers earlier this month is seeking answers about the circumstances surrounding his death after they said jail officials ignored his pleas for medical care when other inmates heard him “screaming” for help.

Esias “Izzy” Johnson, a Massachusetts native remembered by his parents as an intelligent, kindhearted young man, was found dead at 9:45 a.m. on September 7 after he spent an entire month trying unsuccessfully to get released on his $1 bail. He is one of 11 people who have died at the notorious jail complex this year alone.

The city’s chief medical examiner told Gay City News the cause and manner of Johnson’s are pending “further studies.” A New York Daily News report published just hours after he died cited a source claiming he suffered a fatal overdose — and Johnson’s family learned of that claim in the news — though they have not been informed of any official cause of death and they are hesitant to draw any sweeping conclusions.

“Inmates came forward saying he had been complaining of stomach pain for days,” Johnson’s mother, Tracy Johnson, told Gay City News in an interview on September 19. “Inmates said he had been screaming all night for help, and come morning time, he couldn’t get out of bed. He never got out of bed for breakfast.”

She added, “I think they put a drug overdose to cover up that they weren’t taking care of him or helping him.”

The family’s attorney, Jamie Santana, told Gay City News that he believes “multiple inmates saw and heard” Johnson in pain and “witnessed that he received zero medical attention.” Santana said Johnson’s calls for medical attention “were heard and known by the facility.”

He said officers are “in trouble constantly,” which has led to rising crime, high turnover and low morale.

But an Internal Affairs investigation shows a markedly different reality — for one thing, the officer was not just eating a burrito. He was driving through city streets and on Interstate 40 — with a prisoner in the back seat — at times steering his cruiser with his knee while he ate three burritos, one after another.

Our current mayor is being challenged by the former sheriff of the county. His platform is basically the city police are being horribly hamstrung by the super liberal mayor*.. because he is complying with a federal justice department excessive force order. This included shooting a handcuffed man in the back of the head while he was face down on the pavement. They just CANT STOP CRIME AND NOT SHOOT UNARMED PEOPLE IN THE HEAD, ITS OVERSIGHT GONE MAD!!! WE MUST CHOOSE ONE OR THE OTHER!!!

*"funnily" enough the challenger is also a Democrat but he's the equivalent of a RINO.

The Bernalillo County Sheriffs Dept still don't wear body cameras, and go around in military style fatigues and tactical gear even on routine daily patrols.

And the risk of a crash is markedly higher when the person driving the car is distracted by eating a burrito and doesn't have his hands on the wheel..

These past few stories just goes to show the american way of thinking about prisoners. When you get in the hands of the police you are no longer considered human. You mean ****-all to the people handling you.

From the way it's reported, it's hard to imagine he won't fry. They claim there's literal snapchat logs where the lady tells him to go away, then he shows up and forcibly rapes her. It really sounds like an open and shut case that will be hard to bury.

What makes it even more tragic was that he was in pre-trial detention apparently for lack of a $1 bail! Whatever crime he must be accused of would seem to be trivial, and the costs of detention in jail would appear to be excessive, it would be cheaper for the city / state to pay the bail than detain him.

What an awful avoidable tragedy. Abdominal pains can be excrutiating, not only no medical acre but no pain relief.

Cops respond to fight outside football game that escalated to gunfire by showing up and shooting 4 people, killing an 8 year old girl.

4 of the 5 people wounded by gunfire at the fight were shot by police.

Stollsteimer said a group of young males got into a fight that turned into gunfire Aug. 27 as spectators were leaving after the game between Pennsbury and Academy Park high schools. Three Sharon Hill officers were positioned opposite the exit, and as the gunfire broke out a car turned onto the street directly in front of the officers, he said.

“We have concluded that the gunfire, combined with the movement of the vehicle, precipitated responsive gunfire from the Sharon Hill police officers,” Stollsteimer said in a statement. “Our initial ballistics analysis has concluded with near certainty that four of the five gunshot victims, including Fanta Bility, were tragically struck by shots fired by the Sharon Hill police officers. We await final forensic reports.”
