Hi,

I screwed up and waited too long to book a room at South Point. Is there any other resorts in walking distance? How about the M resort? Otherwise I'll just shuttle. Thanks.

Is the hotel booked up, or just the JREF room block?

Nothing else close, as far as I know.

Looks like nothing is available booking from the 13th to the 17th, with or without the TAM code.

ETA: The nights there are no rooms are Friday and Saturday.

The place is completely booked? Wow. I hope there aren't too many of us without rooms.

I know--it's surprising so far in advance. Anyone know if that has happened before?

I would book somewhere else as backup and keep trying at the South Point. There may be cancellations and rooms opening up.

ETA: This page shows rates of $900 for those Friday and Saturday nights. :jaw-dropp

Basically it's just the cheap rooms that are full of skeptical people who won't gamble much that are sold out.

Last year South Point was having cheap rooms on sale every other week, and now I call earlier and find no Fri/Sat rooms. Are there THAT many people attending TAM this year? Anyhow, I immediately booked a room at Grandview. More expensive, but 3rd night is free and it's only 100 meters or so from South Point. Even after several beers in the Del Mar I should be able to navigate my way back.

About two weeks ago the SP site only showed a few remaining rooms as well, a week later we had a full menu of rooms again. Not sure what's going on there, but it is possible that they have reserved a large number of rooms for something that will become available again in a few days. Maybe it's worth to wait and see?

Wow! I wonder how many people will be at this TAM? Last year I was able to get a room at the SP for under the TAM rate. This year, it sold out. Amazing! I hope there is room at the Del Mar to sit and sip this year. Glad I got my room when I did... Maybe some of us need to start thinking about taking in roomies. I dunno...

I'm taking bids for the closet space and the couch... :)

I know...last year, I didn't even decide to go to TAM until about 6 weeks out and had no trouble booking.

Yes, I think it was DJ who was saying they've outsold last year by a fair margin.

I am led to undertand by an inside source that they think they will have approximately 1,500 attendees.

And I wonder if there will be enough seats for all attendees in the conference room. Now my friend Scrut will have to get up even earlier to save seats for some of us lazy ... and hungovers...

Yes, last year was around 1300. TAM 6 (my first one) was the first year they broke 1000. I'm not sure what TAM 7's total was.

Scrut said:
I might as well just stay up all night.
Whoever gets there first saves three seats for us: Patricio, you, me. We agree the first day where we will be sitting.

1500 attendees requires some organization, don't you know.

I have three in my room already (one complaining grad student that WILL sleep on the floor!)

Keep checking!

Can you get a roll-away bed. I did that when I had to be onsite for a cosplay convention because my daughter and her friend were underage.

It looks like I'll Andriiya in my room. I'll have to PM her to get her details to add her to my room.

Mom, I am perfectly happy to sleep on the floor. I'm a geologist-- I'll come prepared. It's just like camping. But with showers :-).

One thing I enjoyed about TAMs past was the table seating. With higher attendance the amount of table seating dwindled last year and I'm afraid there may not be any this year. I heard last year that the SP did have a larger room in the exhibition hall area that we might use with a larger attendance. Does anyone know if thats the case this year?

I have been told by a reliable source that you still can get a room at the SP, using a booking code for a BMX event. Try booking with code BMX0711 and you can get a room for the "low, low rate" of $70 per night.

I am sure those still looking for a room (and who also follow this thread) will be very grateful!

I knew they couldn't have run out of rooms this far in advance...

Tried that. It shows rooms as available, but I get an error when I try to go through with the reservation.

I just called them with the BMX code and was able to get a room. Even with that they said they only had three rooms left with 2 queen beds. Sounded like there were still a bunch of King beds available though.

They're employing a psychic e-cart system that knows you aren't really with the BMX people.

I don't think the hotel staff will like it when you set up the camp stove in the middle of the room.

Well, with the South Point all booked up I'd like to offer to room with someone. I have a 2 Queen bed, non-smoking room booked, checking in on Wed., July 13 and checking out on Sun., July 17. My flight arrives at noon on Wednesday so I'll be checking in an hour or two after that. I'm a 45 year old male. Depending on current interactions between allergies and anti-histamines I may or may not be snoring :-)

The total room cost for all 4 nights is $291, so splitting that would be great (or the appropriate fraction of that if you're not there for all four nights)

Ah, crap. Just saw this. Tried to book, and the bmx code isn't working either. I'm on a wait list, but I'd anyone needs to cancel, I would be happy to take your room. I'll probably book at the grandview... Any idea what it's like there?

I don't know, but I bet the view is grand! :)
