Well, if we're going to legislate religious beliefs and practices based on whether or not the person was "brainwashed since early childhood", then we might as well
ban religion outright. Because, frankly, while mainstream Christian brainwashing may be milder than Islamic brainwashing, it's far more prevalent in our society, and thus far more likely to end up becoming the law of the land in Canada.
A few dozen Muslim women in Quebec who wear a veil simply cannot have the same impact as, say, thousands of anti-abortion Christians.
And that's why we want to keep the state out of it.
