Build a wall? Not so fast there, cowboy!

That makes sense. I don't fly often and when I do I tend to favor small airports so I haven't felt the burden much.

That's okay, if Trump gets his way with the budget, then without Federal Subsidy to keep them going there won't be any small airports to fly out of and you won't feel any burden at all.

A lot of Trump voters thought it was stupid, and that he couldn't be so stupid as to mean that. But it was a great applause line at his rallies, and still is I am sure. And that is what makes it important.

Ahhh, the good old days when Trump's surrogates and supporters were confidently telling us that we couldn't take him literally, and what he was really meaning was that they have a strong immigration policy, and that was what "build a wall" meant. I remember them fondly, just as if they were last year.

Which is a very real concern and will predominately hit isolated rural communities like, wait for it... coal country.
Though I suppose it's fair to say General Aviation is a lifeblood for Alaska. If the cuts hit hard there... they're screwed.

Is there anything this admin proposes that wont have devastating unintended consequences for his own supporters/voters?

Well... I guess most had already run Planned Parenthood out of town so no real change there.

Back on topic... another slew of border area Trump voters just got the bad news yesterday.
That Eminent Domain train is headin' your way.

Thanks for the reminder... I had forgotten that other aspect.

Besides losing some chunk of ones ranch/farm/property, at less than what they consider fair value, there are at least a few to join the ranks of those already actually south of the wall/fence though still in the US. They got electronic keypad gates and everything... like a self storage lot.

There were a number who got that surprise late in W's second term IIRC... I think there's even an entire golf resort on the "wrong side".

It was, but it closed down... surprised?

Not in the least.

As an ex would-be-pilot I'm fairly pissed over what Trump's constant trips to Mar-A-Lago are doing to the FBOs and misc. small businesses at the local airport which has to shut down the airspace while he's there.

I doubt most will survive till summer... at this pace, some may be gone in another month or two.

Thanks Donald.

I hope pilots check the NOTAM before they fly near Trump's neighborhood because the government can make things a bit difficult for pilots for airspace violations when Trump is in town disrupting air traffic.

I should think the word is out sufficiently by now.

Shouldn't catch anyone out... unless they're named Harrison. :p

I don't think Harrison can afford to make anymore such headlines. I might add that it was Ford who flew our 2 millionth Young Eagle last year. I am president of two aviation-related chapters that helped make it happen last year.

No... no more of those headlines Harrison, please. :p

Good for him on the celeb flight. And good for the recipient.
Looks like she's shooting for a military slot in a couple of years... good luck to her.

Doesn't the Rio Grande River form the entire border between Texas and Mexico? Obviously, Mexico isn't going to allow the wall to be built on their side of the border. So what does Trump plan on doing, building the entire thing on the US side and thus basically ceding the entire river (or at least the part after it flows from New Mexico to Texas/Mexico) to Mexico?

No... the "wall" doesn't mark the border.
Hence the number of US citizens currently living south of various portions of the existing barrier, but still on US territory.

Where the Rio Grande marks the line, however it moves, it still will ( I don't think it extends west past whatever is below the southern tail of the Rockies, not sure though).

Elsewhere the line is probably fixed, and the current fencing probably sits as near as practical north of it.

eta: Oops... read your post more closely. You wondered about the RG just on the Texas border.
As far as I know... yes, it's the meandering demarcation of the border. I think. ;)

I know the wall wouldn't officially be the border. I'm think more unofficially.

American citizens would have a hard time visiting the river while Mexicans would have access to both sides.

That's probably accurate.

I've never been, but I presume where it meanders through canyons and folks raft/canoe and fish on it... it's no big deal for Americans to just go to it and back.

No more perhaps if Donald gets his way.

Trump should just say that he's already built the wall. His supporters will believe him and call anything suggesting he's lying "fake news", and he can point to the fact that no government money has been spent as evidence that he got Mexico to pay for it. Win-win, really.

I see no evidence we should expect anything near that level of luck/good fortune.

Yes, we will lose the river, and soon, the wall will supposedly be started in Big Bend.

But rivers aren't too important in the desert, right?
I wouldn't care if he wanted to build a wall by Brownsville, have at it. Big Bend is a different matter. I wonder if the Orange Demon has ever been rafting or backpacking a day in his life.

He's probably been as many times as the old bag that walks in the woods.

Actually, due to the thread title I was just trying to picture him on a horse in full western regalia. Equally unlikely.

I don't like her either, but if I had really believed that Trump would get away with his plan to wall up the whole damn river I might have actually voted for her.

Lol
But you didn't and now she's stuck in the wilderness.

Hey you are getting what you voted for. He is living up to his campaign promises. This one at least unlike that whole repeal and replace Obamacare with health care for everyone, or drain the swamp.

I voted for none of the above, so no, I'm not getting that.
