We live in a infinite universe. So our souls are eternal. Our universe just keeps getting better and better because it has no limits. The thing that makes everything have so much order is love. Love is the strongest force in the universe. So there is a God. God did a great job making this universe.

Things like love, sex, fiction, and technology happen because we live in a infinite universe. We get better technology with time, the universe gets better overall with time. The universe came from nothing. Nothingness is infinite. So that's how the universe is able to evolved to be better with time. Basically time condensed nothingness to become physical. The force of God takes all this randomness and puts it all in perfect order. Our lives are in perfect order for eternity.

"And that, my liege, is how we know the world to be banana shaped."

I remember a poster (I believe it was RandFan) once asked another poster who was fond of this construction in his arguments "does what follow 'so' follow from what came before it?" (Maybe not the exact words, but pretty close, I think). That pretty well sums it up- "so" is not a word that magically makes a non-sequitur into a proper chain of logic. In this case, it's just a string of assertions made with no continuity but the stringing together, and no evidence but their making.

Okay, before going any further, you've skipped over about a million steps of reasoning there. Can you explain why you believe that the universe being infinite (assuming, for the sake of argument that it is) implies that we have souls and that those souls are eternal?

How else could it get to the other side?

Which of course answers the eternal question...

Why did the soul cross the universe?

Do you have any evidence to back up the above?

You really need to show your work. You seem to have forgotten to carry a one at some point.

No offense, but that is philosophy. The one needed for this is Science!!! Science does not agree because none of that is capable of being experimented on. You might want to get together with Maartenn100 though as he seems to feel more or less the same way!!!!! You can discuss it together!!!!

If I replaced some key words in this with blanks, it would make an awesome Mad Lib. And about as much sense.

I love reading the responses to this sort of OP- starts the day with a smile! :)

(And I know typos should not be pointed out, but I wish the thread title could add an n to the a, since Synthetic Dave reads it as is, and it sounds awkward.)

Go on, I'll play.

We live in a infinite universe. So our souls are eternal.

You don't know that the universe is infinite. You don't know that souls exist. There is no causal link between the first claim of yours and the second, even if each claim were true.

Our universe just keeps getting better and better because it has no limits.

What does "better" look like in universe terms? What does your (evidenceless) unlimited nature of it contribute to it being better?

The thing that makes everything have so much order is love.

No, love is simply a human emotion, and an emergent property of the evolved human brain. It has no physical properties, and can control nothing other than humans. The thing which makes everything have so much order is the Laws of Physics.

Love is the strongest force in the universe. So there is a God. God did a great job making this universe.

No, love isn't a force at all, let alone the strongest in the universe. It is a simple human emotion. There is no causal link between your claim about love and your claim for the existence of your god. There is no evidence for the existence of god or gods. There is no evidence that a god or gods made the universe.

Things like love, sex, fiction, and technology happen because we live in a infinite universe.

You have provided no evidence that we live in an infinite universe. You don't have any such evidence. Love is an emotion. Sex happens as a way of mixing DNA. Technology has only existed for a squillionth of the length of time the universe has existed.

We get better technology with time

Yay! You've got something right. Tehcnology improves because of the scientific method, and because of the cumulative effect of all our previous efforts at technology.

the universe gets better overall with time.

Define better. Frankly, it's hard to think of any way of defining better which can be used as a descriptor of the continual changes in the cosmos.

The universe came from nothing.

Prove it.

Nothingness is infinite.

Gibberish.

So that's how the universe is able to evolved to be better with time.

Your previous sentence has no causal link with this claim.

Basically time condensed nothingness to become physical.

It's time you went back to school and learned some physics. A class or two in philosophy would help you too, but most of all, learn some logic, and learn the scientific method. People who know what they are talking about don't post such embarrassing crap.

The force of God takes all this randomness

Sorry.........your makey-uppie god thing is a physical force now? Could you just take us through the physics of such a force? Use maths.

and puts it all in perfect order.

Got any evidence this has occurred? Got any evidence that your god is the cause?

Our lives are in perfect order for eternity.

No. Our lives aren't eternal. They last on average about 4 to 8 decades, some longer, some shorter. Take a new roll of toilet paper. Stand at the end of the longest corridor or aircraft hanger you can find, and unwind the entirety of the toilet roll so that you have one long strip of paper. This represents the length of time that the universe has existed. Walk down to the furthest end of the paper and tear off the very smallest piece of paper you physically can. This represents the length of time that modern humans have existed, proportionately. What were you saying again about us being eternal?

Oh, look what I found in perusing this poster's previous missives:

.........im a atheist.......atheism is only the disbelief of there not being a invisible man in the sky............

You're an atheist who believes in god. Righto, chap. Let me see if I can help you:

-the indefinite article preceding a vowel is "an", not "a".

Lot's of really clever people have come here over the years thinking they can take the piss out of us. They were wrong. If they couldn't succeed, you may want to have a closer look at your chances.

A comprehensive rebuttal but I doubt slipknot0129 will be impressed.

I wonder if slipknot0129 is still with us. Are you there slipknot?

The first six words are the only ones worth consideration. The rest is baloney. I actually checked out the thread because it might be a discussion on the implications of an infinite universe, which are utterly remarkable, but it turns out it's just another spambot-type hit and run.

I count five non-sequiteurs and 7 unbased claims.
Not bad for such a short post.

Yes all the stuff I say makes perfect sense on how the universe works. We are eternal beings. The universe is infinite and never ends. It always gets better.

We live in a infinite universe. So our souls are eternal.

Wow, talk about a non sequitur. How do you get from the premise to the conclusion?

Love is the strongest force in the universe.

I'm sure that explains the high rate of divorce.

So there is a God.

Wait, wait. Again, how do you get from one to the other?

Things like love, sex, fiction, and technology happen because we live in a infinite universe.

No, they happen because we live in a physical, causal universe. Infinity has nothing to do with this. Also, the universe isn't infinite.

The universe came from nothing.

No.

Nothingness is infinite.

No, it's the exact opposite of infinite.

I think you're a bit confused about how things work in the skeptical community: the fact that your claim is repeated, and that it makes sense to you, is not evidence that it is true. You need to present _evidence_ that it is true.

Yes we came from nothingness. Nothingness is infinite. Meaning beings of infinite intelligence can come from nothing. Meaning God exists.

Yes we came from nothingness.

Repeating your claim does not make it so.

There was never a time where there was nothing. You need to brush up on your physics courses because you can't get 'something' from 'nothing'. The universe is based on something even if that's just point quantum fluctuations.

Nothingness is infinite. Meaning beings of infinite intelligence can come from nothing. Meaning God exists.

You have not answered my question: how are any of those steps related?

Let's assume the first statement is correct, and that "nothingness is infinite" (which, by the way, is a logical contradiction, which means it cannot be true under any scenario), how does that mean that infinite intelligence can come from nothing? And then, how does that mean that god exists? At best it would mean that god MAY exist, and under your own claim, it means that god is a product of the universe, not its creator.

No no, you don't just get to declare yourself right and wander off. Go through the questions and points I raised one by one and answer them. Otherwise, we'll just conclude that you can't.

Pretty much it was inevitable for a god to take control of the universe. So when God took control of the universe, she went back in time and fixed everything.

Are you an atheist as you claimed? Which one of your conflicting claims in this regard was a lie?

I can't wait to see slipknot0129's musings this transformed into an evening length theater piece. It could be something of an antidote for seeing too much Becket.

Why did you claim to be an atheist then?

why do most people think there has to be a god for there to be a afterlife. im a atheist that knows from experience that theres a afterlife. atheism is only the disbelief of there not being a invisible man in the sky. so you can believe there is a afterlife and still be a atheist. i got everything i need to exist forever.its hard to mixed the physical world with the spiritual world.
