Stormy Daniels Sues the President

If we take the statements at face value and Cohen did pay Daniels out of his own funds without Trump knowing about it then I don't think that's actually illegal, but it is something that should get him disbarred: https://www.americanbar.org/groups/.../rule_1_8_current_clients_specific_rules.html

(e) A lawyer shall not provide financial assistance to a client in connection with pending or contemplated litigation, except that:

(1) a lawyer may advance court costs and expenses of litigation, the repayment of which may be contingent on the outcome of the matter; and

(2) a lawyer representing an indigent client may pay court costs and expenses of litigation on behalf of the client.

And you still have to wonder why he spontaneously decided to give a porn star $130,000 out of his own pocket as part of an agreement between her and a newly-formed company representing Donald Trump, obliging her to maintain her silence about nothing at all. That seems an odd justification for risking disbarment.

Lawyers for the Rapist-in-Chief likely risk disbarment just taking meetings with their client.

Sigh. removing a case to federal court is not bullying. A lawyer whining that it is is objectively moronic.

Saying\Doing things that are objectively moronic is talking Trump's language. Every time Trump gets jabbed he HAS to jab back. It's the Trumpian way. That being said, every time he throws a twitter tantrum he looks like more of a moron to everyone, world wide, that isn't part of his base. It's seriously a win-win for opposing counsel. Eventually Trump will blow his lid, and that's always a hoot. Meanwhile, Stormy is raking Trump supports over the coals on twitter. She couldn't possibly be handling this any better. Her lawyer has his game on point, it's fun to watch.

The one advantage of Trump's presidency is that the next time Christian conservatives pretend to care about moral issues, we can laugh at them.

Absolutely. One can only hope that interviewers keep that in mind when the discussion turns to GOP "family values". *Barf*

I wish America would grow into one of those countries that literally don't care who their leaders are sleeping with.

We had only our 3rd impeachment proceeding in our country's history over something like this. That's crazy.

Agreed. It does seem like one party has this big hang up on representing family values that haven't really been relevant since the 1950's, but if we can get them to move away from that it will be a good thing for the country. Maybe this will be that moment when both parties agree that sex just doesn't matter. I doubt it.

In case anyone was wondering, I did a quick search of TBD's older posts regarding Bill Clinton and yes this post is exactly as hypocritical as it seems.

But don't worry, hopefully we'll have a fourth impeachment soon enough to bring those stats down.

I especially enjoy that Avenatti is claiming to be outsmarting the Deal Artist. That's the kind of taunt that might drive a malignant narcissist into making serious mistakes.

This seems obviously true and yet it flies past some. Eyes wide shut?

Yet Donald is playing this game like a steely eyed missile man.

Does anyone think that Avenatti is going to show what is on that disk?

Here we are, where Stormy and the Mouthpiece (shockingly not a porn title) have filed an action seeking a judicial declaration that the agreement is not enforceable, and rather than moving ahead expeditiously and in good faith with that proceeding, are now treating the agreement with contempt without a judicial determination.

As such, the legal filing was just another stunt in a long line of them.... and the case move inexorably toward arbitration.

Golly gee, I think we were ALL wondering just that!

Hats off to Beelzebuddy for his search skills, although bit of a shame they missed my actual point, which was subtle & elegant.

In the Clinton impeachment, Republicans said (plausibly, in my opinion) that it wasn't about sex, but about lying under oath.

If the Daniels matter leads to impeachment, it won't be about sex but misuse of campaign funds. If there was no such misuse or other crime, then of course he shouldn't be impeached on these grounds. Cheating on one's wife isn't an impeachable offense.

Plausibly, but not really truthfully. At least not for most of them. The pearl clutches were evident, even if the more level headed focused on the lie.

Agreed, but I do hope it helps us move away form the silly focus on "family values" that seems to be more about effective NDAs than anything else. "You can trust that there won't be any surprises from my past, I have very good lawyers, umm I mean . . . family values!"

If your point is that there is some hypocrisy among Trump supporters, especially on the Christian right, I agree.

Of course, that has nothing at all to do with impeachment.

But, yes, absolutely, some of the folks who don't care about whether he slept with a porn star would've made a fuss if Obama allegedly did the same. So long as we're merely pointing out hypocrisy and not engaging in the same, okay.

The frustration is how tiring it is to point out the hypocrisy. It has been put into overdrive as of late.

If this was true they would NEVER have elected Trump as President as he lied under oath more than 20 times during various trials and depositions over the years.

Or you know care about sessions lying under oath about his ties to Russia.

I cared that Clinton lied under oath, but I put it in perspective: He lied about an affair that would be both politically embarrassing and damaging to his marriage. I'll assume Trump lied about Daniels for the same reason, but he also constantly lies about the state of the country and the world in order to advance his pigheaded, self-serving agenda of political demagoguery.

"Steely-eyed missile man"

Truly hilarious. It reads like trash romance from a Trump cultist. Or like one of CE's goofy cartoons that depict Trump as a young, fit super-hero. I can imagine the playmate (who makes Stormy seem like a genius in comparison) having uttered this sort of drivel at special moments.

Trump lies about EVERYTHING. He'll exaggerate any story for effect or make up stories out of whole cloth to support whatever it may be that he is trying to sell even the size not only of his hands but his buildings.

For example, real estate values of a unit varies according the floor that it is on. So if you're looking to purchase a condo on say the 30th floor of building, you won't want to purchase say unit 3010 in a Trump building because it really will be on the equivalent of say the 26th floor of another building. Trump over and over again said The Apprentice was the highest rated TV show. It wasn't even close. His inaugural crowds were bigger than Obama's. Trump doesn't care in the least bit about truth of the words he speaks. He handpicks the teachers for Trump University. He didn't.

We could go on an on about the lies Trump tells.

Bull ****.

If it wasn't about sex then they never would have been asking him about it under oath in the first place.

It wasn't about sex. It wasn't about Bill lying either. It was about political advantage, pure and simple. It also wasn't about Ben Ghazzi or the emails either, it's about making political hay any way you can.

Yep. Also: abortion, gays, transgendered bathrooms etc and so on.

What it's really, really about: deregulation, rent extraction, and tax cuts

I understand that others, decent folk like yourself, may disagree.

Far as I'm concerned, lying under oath is a bad thing for a sitting President and well worth an investigation and even impeachment. Whether it's about sex or not.

Also keeping wages low and structuring laws that give corporations and advantage over consumers and employees.

There are probably other bad things in the spending bill, but emblematic of the rich screwing those less advantaged was the little provision that prevents Minor League Baseball players from being paid overtime. Most people think of professional athletes as making huge sums of money, but that isn't true of most Minor League baseball players.

Take a read. It's sad.
