Start with Scooter Libby. Convicted of two counts of perjury after saying I don't recall countless times. I'm pretty sure some people during the Watergate scandal also faced perjury charges for stonewalling prosecutors that way. It's more than reasonable to not remember everything, but 'I don't recall' isn't a panacea that absolves one from answering questions.
“Just be damn sure you say, ‘I don’t remember, I can’t recall. I can’t give any honest — an answer to that that I can recall.’ But that’s it,” the president said in a March 1973 Oval Office meeting, according to the transcript of an audiotape of the meeting that Nixon unsuccessfully fought — all the way to the Supreme Court — to keep under seal.
So he didn't say under oath he didn't recall, he said poor recollection led him to mislead investigators.Lewis “Scooter” Libby, tried unsuccessfully to use frail memory in his 2006 trial as part of his defense over why he misled investigators looking into the leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson’s name to reporters.
So looking into this as a relevant and hopefully short sidetrack: Nixon aides were disbelieved because Nixon said on the tape to say they didn't recall:
Politico The weakest defense in Washington? Saying ‘I don’t recall’ -- Going back to Watergate, political aides have gotten themselves in legal trouble by pretending they’ve forgotten what they did wrong.
Re Libby:So he didn't say under oath he didn't recall, he said poor recollection led him to mislead investigators.
So far none of the "I don't recall that meeting with that Russian" has yet to go before a jury.
I don't think we are that far apart in how we are looking at this. Like I said, if there is other evidence then the 'I don't recall' may just make one look all the more guilty on the stand. I'm pretty sure Kushner revising his security clearance application multiple times after every new meeting with a Russian was revealed wouldn't make a good defense in an actual court.
Cohen is probably in the same situation, he can say he doesn't recall but there might be plenty of evidence without his admission.
But I hold to my POV that a required forfeiture of the 5th is not going to be some automatic guarantee that Cohen will then tell all.
I don't think so either. I just saying he can't answer EVERY question posed to him with 'I don't recall'.
See, we aren't very far apart here.![]()

What's Trump going to say, I pardon you for any all crimes you've ever committed in your life?![]()

Why not ? It worked for Jeff Sessions (in that it stopped him perjuring himself and created plausible deniability)
A Republican saying that trickle-down is bad?Nunes: “We’re still in a situation where it’s trickle down documents."
"I don't recall" worked for Hillary. She couldn't remember if she'd ever had training on how to handle classified information.
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...ing-how-handle-classified-documents/89651862/
WASHINGTON — During her consequential July interview with the FBI, Hillary Clinton displayed a slim grasp of the fine points for handling classified information and often expressed little recall for specific emails containing sensitive information that transited through a private server during her tenure as secretary of State.
Clinton, who could not remember receiving "any briefing or training'' for handling such information, later acknowledged to agents that she did not recognize a common document marking used to identify it as classified information.
Either he was lying about the value or they are.
Stable!Trump is cleverly losing all this money to avoid paying taxes.
Not sure what David Byrne would think (probably that it was hilarious) but I liked it. (Prefer the original, though.)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSuregWhlWk

Russia vows to shoot down any and all missiles fired at Syria. Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and “smart!” You shouldn’t be partners with a Gas Killing Animal who kills his people and enjoys it!
Reagan joked liked this on a hot mike, and it was understood to be a joke. The PDJT does this on Twitter, and it's damn serious.
That would definitely obstruct justice.Twitter should take his account down.

I hope not. I am watching his Tweets with horrified fascination.
"Russia needs us to help with their economy, something that would be very easy to do, and we need all nations to work together. Stop the arms race?"
Speaker Paul D. Ryan will tell House Republican colleagues on Wednesday that he will not seek re-election in November, ending a brief stint atop the House and signaling the peril that the Republican majority faces in the midterm elections.

Fast forward a short time later and we'll get:
"Nobody knew fixing the Russian economy would be this complicated."
The chief of the Russian General Staff, Valery Gerasimov says that if Russians are targeted by missiles they will fire back at the launch sites.
TASS said:MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/. Militants are preparing a provocation with the use of chemical agents in Syria to justify a massive US strike against Damascus’ government neighborhoods, Chief of Russia’s General Staff Valery Gerasimov said on Tuesday.
According to Gerasimov, Russia has hard facts about preparations for staging the use of chemical weapons against civilians by the government forces.
After the provocation, the US plans to accuse Syria’s government forces of using chemical weapons. He added that the United States plans to "furnish the so-called ‘evidence’ of the alleged mass civilian deaths through the fault of the Syrian government and the Russian leadership supporting it."
"As a countermeasure, Washington plans to deliver a missile and bomb strike against Damascus’ government districts," Gerasimov said.
He stressed that there are Russian military officials in Damascus in the Syrian Defense Ministry’s facilities, and "in the event of a threat to our military servicemen’s lives, Russia’s Armed Forces will take retaliatory measures to target both the missiles and their delivery vehicles."

Not quite
I think he's trying to preserve his name for a future run at POTUS. I suppose a POTUS who has a teenage crush on Ayn Rand doesn't seem quite as asinine as it did pre Trump.Paul Ryan throws in the towel: Speaker Paul Ryan Will Not Seek Re-Election in November
I posted this over in the Syria thread. A month ago! Gerasimov must be psychic!
Who knew that WWIII would start with a tweet?
