Cont: The Trump Presidency VI

Not for this, no. Dolt 45 is really the tip of the iceberg here - the GOP base has been frothing at the mouth over black and Hispanic people for a good long while now - witness birtherism, the anti-immigration howls, and so forth - and each time the guys she wants to stand bravely, have instead folded like beach chairs. Toupee Fiasco hasn't said anything that hasn't been spewed by the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, and Glenn Beck for most of the Obama presidency and before that (I guess Beck changed eventually, but I have no clue what he's up to these days, and it seems like nobody cares).
The existential demographic threat to the Republican Party has been looming since the 80's, and seemed to be confirmed when Bush Sr was held to one term by the next-generation Bill Clinton. I think that trauma allowed Karl Rove to come to the fore, and the hysteria has been building ever since.

Tell the Trump organization I'll buy it for DOUBLE what the Trump Company says it's worth. Right now, today I will pay them 3 million dollars. I'm sure my bank will loan me double that for that property.
Be sure to do due diligence, looking for mortgages, liens, pledges to scary Russians, stuff like that. Frankly, I wouldn't touch it.

Steve Bannon giving advice on how to shut down Mueller:
Stephen K. Bannon, who was ousted as White House chief strategist last summer but has remained in touch with some members of President Trump’s circle, is pitching a plan to West Wing aides and congressional allies to cripple the federal probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to four people familiar with the discussions.

My cheeks hurt from smiling. From the article:

“dammit he’s taking us all down with him. We are well and truly f**ked in November. Kevin [McCarthy] is already circling like a green fly circling sh*t trying to take Paul’s [Ryan] job because nobody thinks he’s sticking around for Nancy [Pelosi]. She’s going to ◊◊◊◊ up the cafeteria again too. [Lord’s name in vain], at least I’ll probably lose too and won’t have to put up with that sh*t.”

I'm embarrassed to say I that I never considered the cafeteria. Yes, I thought about harm to alliances, domestic institutions, and basic norms, but I'm missing the big picture.

But honestly, I wish the motherf*cker would just go away. We’re going to lose the House, lose the Senate, and lose a bunch of states because of him.

Poor you. This guy should've been as smart as Snowden and refused to be quoted at length. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if a few smart staffers could infer the identity of the speaker based on these comments.

I laughed at that too. I bet privately 90 percent of the Republican Congressmen and Senators despise Trump. But he is still a Republican and they rationalize him. Most are praying that Trump has a heart attack.

So, what's the good news about the weakening dollar? I'm a bit to overwhelmed by all the good news to find it.

That's hilarious and so so true. Trump is so unbelievably lazy and all he does is whine and attack everybody else.

What I thought was hilarious was that guy's whining.

Blame Trump for everything while in almost the same breath he admits that he doesn't say anything against him for public consumption.

I won't shed a single tear for any Republican that goes down in flames with Trump. They brought it on themselves. They welcomed him with open arms. Stood behind every sleazy thing he's done. Adapted Trump's strategies for their very own.

Almost every one of them is complicit. Almost every one of them has at least been an enabler, if not actively abetting. (And I only use the modifier "almost" to shut down the nit pickers.)

If there was anyone anywhere who had the ability and power to rein in Trump it is the GOP in the House and Senate. Instead they chose to try and grab as many cookies out of the jar as they could, and openly abandoned every single principle they ever claimed to have. All in pursuit of power. Morals and ethics be damned.

He (the Congresscretin in the story) is venting his ire on Trump because, like most Republicans and conservatives, he is unable to accept responsibility for his own behavior. It just has to be someone else's fault.

Clarification on the missiles for Syria initiative.

"Never said when an attack on Syria would take place. Could be very soon or not so soon at all! In any event, the United States, under my Administration, has done a great job of ridding the region of ISIS. Where is our “Thank you America?”"

I thought it was the hard fighting by the Kurdish and Iraqi forces that did it?

Couldn't agree more. He claims that if he said anything he'd be "run out of town". Only because all the other spineless Republicans are doing the same thing as him. If they all actually stood by their principles, then there would be nobody to run them out of town.

Weakening dollar means US produced goods are less expensive to international buyers. So more people will buy our stuff.

But given that the US has a trade deficit, it will mainly increase consumer prices and thus inflation, making higher interest rates necessary, dampening investment.

Please, like WWII it was the American effort that brought about victory.

Sure maybe there were more fighters from other countries, and maybe those fighters actually caused more enemy casualties, but really it was all down to the Americans and their valiant President (the current one, not the previous one).

(Responding in all seriousness to something Cain wrote...)

Unless Representative X is truly stupid, which is of course a real possibility, permitting Erickson to quote him at such length suggests X believes his opinion of Trump is so widespread that X's identity would be hard to uncover.

Representative X may be overestimating his anonymity, but whether other Republican congresscritters think as little of Trump as X does is something X would know.

Some level of understanding of Trump's actions, and tweets, will only be possible after his presidency is ended and some unravelling is posssible.
We can see that Sessions and Putin have some hold over him, but who else? Jeff Sessions is an example, he comes across as an old dodderer but of course he is as hard as hell. Trump can make a show of bullying him but he cannot shift a man who knows too much.
Blackmail in all of its forms are the problem for Trump.Even if he accepts his marriage isn't worth further deceit and payment then we have to assume there are plenty of other things he is trying to hide.
Unless there is a new development it seems the blackmail could be limited to knowledge about hookers, affairs, tax returns, money laundering (maybe just condo unit pricing) or unreported discussions with Russians. Is it enough?
The last couple of days have shown a new level of ridiculousness, but is it self-correcting? Can Putin just call and tell him to ease down or else.

I never thought of it before but do others think Sessions may have dirt to hold over Trump. He has lasted much longer than I would have thought. Sessions is a racist dirt bag but I don't think he is a fool or a moron.

Not many people know this, and neither the 'failing NYT' or 'c-fake-NN' are reporting about it, but Trump actually, some people say single-handedly, won WWII. Liddle Dolf Hitler was a loser.

ETA: why isn't anyone investigating Hillary for causing the hollow cast?

A doorman at a Trump building supposedly overheard that Trump fathered an "illegitimate" child. He was paid 30k by the Enquirer and, like was the case with Stormy, the story was spiked. The Enquirer now claims the story had no merit (although there are inside sources who say that's BS). Link

I have no idea if there's any substance here, and actually I don't care about it at this point. The reason I'm posting is the absurdity of the Enquirer, who published stories about Hillary being a bisexual sex freak being kept alive by narcotics, laying claim to journalistic integrity. Guffaw?

Apart and aside, I suspect there's a big overlap between Trump cultists and Enquirer readers.

Yeah, that is a good one. The Enquirer rejects a story because it has "no merit."

Good one!

In fairness, given Trump's tendency to sue at the drop of a hat, it wouldn't surprise me if they are a little more careful with him versus other famous people that would just roll their eyes and go on with their lives.

Doubtful. Trump and the owner of the Enquirer have been close personal friends for decades.

I tend to agree with this. What I can't understand is why Sessions is so anxious to keep this job and put up with the abuse from Trump.

It's the most senior job he'e likely to get and he wields the most power he ever will ?

So why not let their competitors get sued?

Exactly. If the risk of litigation was really an issue then they did things the wrong way. They paid thousand of dollars for the story. Its counter-productive. Let some other paper pay the thousands for the rights to the story, then (possibly) get sued by Trump. Harms your competitors in 2 different ways.

I read the linked article about Bannon's plan. Part of it is to retroactively invoke executive privilege and declare that any information obtained in prior interviews is "null and void". One of the few things that Trump has been right about is that Bannon has lost his mind. OTOH, I'm not aware of any evidence that he ever had one to lose.

It is certainly a novel legal theory. Those who voluntarily answered questions can have their interviews disappear because of retroactive executive privilege.

Do they have to use one of those little flashy-light mind wipe things from Men in Black?
