Um, Vixen is correct in this. It was enacted into law in 1925 by both the UK and the Irish Republic.
Irish Aliens act (1925)
UK Aliens act (1925) (not currently online because the UK is determined to return to the 19th century, you will have to revert to treeware for that).
A terrible piece of legislation, It allowed British lunatics to enter the country unchallenged...
Though it's actually fairly irrelevant to the CTA and the UK/RoI situation which is based on a slew of agreements, specifically:
1. The agreements of 1923 and 1925 wrt common immigration policy. This ended in 1939, and imposed restrictions including on movement from NI to GB.
2. The 1952 agreement, the Aliens Order 1962 and the Commonwealth Immigrants Act 1962.
3. The Ninth Amendment of the Constitution (passed by 3:1 IN 1984) and supporting legislation which extended voting right for Dáil elections (only) to UK citizens and permits such rights to be granted to other countries by MO.
4. The UK's Ireland Act 1949 which extended voting rights to Irish citizen resident in the UK

In the continuing adventures of you couldn't make this **** up Sir James Dyson has announced that he is moving his company to Singapore after bigging up Brexit. What a pillock.

I thought that was a while back. But it's been par for the course for the course for rich leavers, they're all Flying South for Brexit. (Well, West for R-M).

Meanwhile on badscience, there is this conversation about May's plans

So plan A can't get through parliament
We have now moved to plan B which can't get through parliament and will be rejected by the EU
Can't wait for plan C
Last night a close contact in government showed me May's Plan C. I was unable to take the document away or take a copy. I promised not to reveal anything of the new version.

But it is significantly different from Plan A. I cannot tell you what May has has changed it to, but it is no longer Times New Roman. If anyone wants to research the Georgia typeface, however, their time would not be wasted, hint hint hint.

The fact that Irish citizens get to vote in UK elections, while other-EU citizens don't, seems to be a clear indicator that pre-EU UK legislation favouring Ireland still stands. All the time we have been in the EU, it seems that no other-EU citizens has challenged their lack of voting rights on the grounds of those Irish have.
No. The UK extended voting rights to resident Irish citizens in 1949. Ireland reciprocated in 1984 and can further extend this. Any pair of countries to create a similar agreement.
If (for example) France were toextend the parliamentary franchise to Irish citizens resident in France, that is a matter for the French government and people. Likewise reciprocity would be a matter for Ireland.

There is no universal EU standard for voting rights, except for voting in European elections and (since 1992) local elections.
A Commonwealth citizen can vote in parliamentary elections the UK but not in Ireland, France et cetera.
And don't get me started on Switzerland...

But who can vote is more internal than freedom of movement to the EU. The EU has rules about freedom of movement, what rules does it have over offering franchise?
Only for European Parliament and (since 1992) local elections (to an extent; reciprocity is compulsory).

Any attempts by Remainer MPs to delay or obstruct #Brexit must be opposed. Today I have formally asked Polish Government to veto any motions by EU to allow extension of Article 50. We are leaving 11pm on March 29th as promised @StandUp4Brexit

Well he is a gay man who wants to know live in a "Christian nation" with blasphemy criminalised and abortion illegal. Not to mention supporting homeopathy fox hunting. And presumably looser controls on dubious parliamentary expenses...
He's probably a bit confused.

Brexit: Delaying Brexit worse than no deal, says Liam Fox

Delaying or cancelling Brexit would be a "calamitous" breach of trust with the electorate and worse than leaving the EU with no deal, Liam Fox has said.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-46971390

damn straight!

How are people going to trust you when you told them you would jump from a roof and then you don't do it because it will probably kill you?

Great interview with Liam Fox this morning where it was confirmed that the free trade deals we are looking* to get signed up to post Brexit amount to 10% of our trade with the EU. Of course the EU will already have free trade deals with some of them so the benefit will be less.

*Some of the bastards are pushing deals down the road and currently are only willing to discuss mutual recognition agreements. Did I call the Bastards, bastards? if not 'Bastards'. This is supposed to be easy.

No the announcement a while back was that production of his new car was going to be in Singapore. Prior to that he moved production to Malaysia (and Singapore and Philippines). Now he is moving the HQ to Singapore.

The UK will remain an R&D centre but Dyson will no longer be a UK company.

His Brexit aim has always been to get a lower tariff on imports of overpriced vacuum cleaners and hairdryers from Malaysia than the EU currently offers. It has never been about the Dyson corporate footprint in the UK.

Is that Liam Homeopathic Fox or is it just his brain and sense of shame that are undetectable?

There's something really, really wrong with a Tory party that allows a man of his vanishing intelligence and lack of cunning not only to be nominated, not only to be promoted to the front benches, but also to hold positions of authority for nearly 20 years.

If this is their 'brightest and best' then...

Interesting Border Force document doing the rounds that outlines what will happen in the case of no deal.

They will lose access to EU systems for checking arrivals and thus reduce security and safety of the country. Taking back control of the borders basically means guessing at who is entering.

One interesting tidbit - the border force will have no way of telling who is a resident settled EU citizen and who is a new arrival. Great stuff!

Link is gone...

I'm not surprised.

The Daily Mail is calling for a web browser alert that criticises its journalism to be changed.

The NewsGuard plug-in currently brings up a warning that says the newspaper's website "generally fails to maintain basic standards of accuracy and accountability".

It has given this advice since August.

But the matter came to prominence last week, after Microsoft updated its Edge browser app for Android and iOS devices and built in NewsGuard.
This prompted several other media outlets to report the story.

Microsoft declined to comment on the dispute and referred the BBC to NewsGuard's developers.
They said they had already tried to engage with the Daily Mail.
"Our journalist analysts always contact websites if they get a negative rating on any of our nine journalistic criteria. The Mail Online chose not to reply," co-chief executive Gordon Crovitz, a former Wall Street Journal columnist, told the BBC.

"Dozens of news websites have changed their practices based on our journalistic criteria on credibility and transparency in order to become more reliable sources of news."

The Daily Mail is not the only news source to trigger such a warning.

Visitors to the right-wing US conspiracy site InfoWars, the left-wing US political blog Daily Kos and the Russian government news agency Sputnik also see the same words of advice.

Presumably that will mean the plebs won't be able to see his filed accounts, anymore. Apparently he lost a lot of sleep over such affronts to his ego.

P&O Ferries to re-register all ships on the English Channel under Cyprus flag ahead of Brexit

A major ferry firm is to re-register its UK fleet under the Cyprus flag ahead of Brexit.

A spokesman for for P&O Ferries said the decision to reflag the six ships will enable them to continue to benefit from tax arrangements of European Union states.

A spokesman said: "In advance of Britain leaving the European Union on March 29 2019, we undertook a review of the flag status of our ships on the English Channel.

"For operational and accounting reasons, we have concluded that the best course of action is to reflag all ships to be under the Cyprus flag.
