You know, I kind of like the Quran/Book of Mormon approach to holy books. I have this book here. An angel gave it to me and I transcribed it. I don't have the original any more because I gave it back to the angel / I lost it / the dog ate it. It has a lot of stuff that looks like it was plagiarized from other holy books because those books were right, but have been corrupted over time by evil priests. Worship me and give me money.
I am intrigued by your ideas and wish to prescribe to your magazine!

ISF = International Skeptics Forum. There should be a comma after it. It really wasn't that hard to understand.

Yes I should have got that one as I have before. Just a mental block I suppose.:o

Something I do find irksome however is the way a number of posters use these acronyms often. It should be remembered that many who frequent these pages, do not have English as their first language, so can be left floundering. Don't be lazy and write it out in full, it's the courteous thing to do.

Me too. Definitely has promise.

Quran 2.26 Allah does not shy away from making an example of a mosquito and what is above it. As for those who believe, they know that it is the Truth from their Lord. But as for those who disbelieve, they say, "What did Allah intend by this example?" He leads astray many thereby, and He guides many thereby; but He misleads thereby only the evildoers.

Mosquitos have their own parasites.

Wouldn't a parasite be below the mosquito on the supposed cosmic ladder? Or are mosquitos above us too?

And are you seriously suggesting that the fact that disease transmitting bloodsucking monsters have their own horrible parasites that infect and kill them is somehow a sign of the power of your god? Then your god appears to be a sadistic monster.

How convenient,

Quran's god Allah makes pretty much everything in existence signs and miracles for him. Even misquotes and olive oil.

What happen to miracles in their real sense ?
Stuff that suspend laws of nature at the demand and need of his messengers..

Quran's purported literary superiority (over who knows whom) is put forth as one of the biggest miracles. Who are you kidding allah ? (Muslims, of course).
You know that muslims don't know much about literature. I never heard of a devout Muslim who read -for example- Les Miserables.
This so called literary "miracle" is also so limited in its scope. It only applies to the usage of the Arabic language. (That is the 7th century Arabic only). It loses all of its "miracle effect" once it's translated out of the Arabic language.
Pretty much all the mastepieces of the world's literature has been translated to many different languages and no one complains about a massive loss of literary value in them through the act of translating. But "Allah's word" Quran loses all of its "literary miracle" once it's not Arabic..

Fire Whirl/Tornado

[Quran 2.266] Would anyone of you like to have a garden of palms and vines, under which rivers flow, with all kinds of fruit in it for him, and old age has stricken him, and he has weak children, then a tornado containing fire burns it? Thus Allah makes clear the signs for you, so that you may reflect.

What's your miracle here ?
Do you suppose that no one knew about this kind of weather events in the past?
Childish stuff..

Verily, the miracles do continue!

Before there stood gods upon Olympus, or ever Allah was Allah, had wrought and rested MANA-YOOD-SUSHAI.

There are in Pegana Mung and Sish and Kib, and the maker of all small gods, who is MANA-YOOD-SUSHAI. Moreover, we have a faith in Roon and Slid.

And it has been said of old that all things that have been were wrought by the small gods, excepting only MANA-YOOD-SUSHAI, who made the gods and hath thereafter rested.

And none may pray to MANA-YOOD-SUSHAI but only the gods whom he hath made.

But at the Last will MANA-YOOD-SUSHAI forget to rest, and will make again new gods and other worlds, and will destroy the gods whom he hath made.

And the gods and the worlds shall depart, and there shall be only MANA-YOOD-SUSHAI.

Your prophet was kind of stupid if he thought that was a miracle.

The number of pi is identified with infinity in general and is shown as 3.1415.

Let me see what this corresponds to in the Qur'anic verses. I wonder if the eternal paradise and eternal life will be revealed about expressions. Yes, it really did:

3: 14-15

Quran 3:14 It has been adorned for people to love the desire of women, buildings, ornaments made from gold and silver, trained horses, the livestock, and fields. These are the enjoyment of the world, and with God is the best place of return.

Quran 3:15 Say, "Shall I inform you of what is greater than all this? For those who are aware, at their Lord there will be gardens with rivers flowing beneath, abiding there eternally, and purified mates, and an acceptance from God. God is Seer of the servants."

3.15 is not pi. Also none of those verses mention pi at all. They dont even mention eating pie eternally. How could your prophet be so negligent as to leave out any reference and explination of pi in his so called proof of pi?

Edit

Also after doing some reading apparently the ancient Babbylonians and Egyptians knew about pi 4000 years ago, well before mohammed or even Jesus. So it was not much of a miracle by Allah or Gabriel or Mohammed if the pagan gods and/ or scholars could pass on more accruate and definate information regarding pi at a vastly earlier date.

Approximately.

Doesn't sound very tempting but then I don't drink wine or ride horses. And riding horses after drinking wine is out of the question.

What about the golden ratio phi.

You know a+b/a = a/b solved as 2Cos36 or 1.618033989.....?

Any mention of this in your holy book?

What are you trying to achieve by posting about your preferred mythology here?

Some other verses from the same book,

Quran ("Among them" is for male residents of heaven.):

52:24 "There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected."
56:17-18-19 "There will circulate among them young boys made eternal-With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring -No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated -"
76:19 "There will circulate among them young boys made eternal. When you see them, you would think them [as beautiful as] scattered pearls."

Sahih International Translation

Sinkholes

28:81 We then caused the earth to swallow him and his mansion. He had no group that could protect him against God; nor would he be victorious.

28:82 Those who wished they were in his place the day before said, "Indeed it is God Who provides or restricts for whomever He chooses from among His servants. Had it not been for God's grace towards us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us as well. We now realize that the ingrates never succeed."

So what if an old book talks about some events that happen in nature somewhere everyday for thousands of years? That's a miracle for you ?

And whose mansion is your book talking about here ? What is the supporting historical sources to this story ? Why should anyone care about this story ? I read hundreds of more interesting stories in the book of Arabian Nights.

I think the argument is that because natural things exist, therefore supernatural things also exist.
Also, not just any old supernatural things, but only the special ones that I believe in.
That anyone can sustain this kind of thinking in this day and age is, in itself, a miracle.

Why are you posting on this forum? You keep posting as if you were speaking to a bunch of Christians, but most the people on this forum are atheists or agnostics.

Did you just round off pi and randomly decided the Quran was a reference to circles?

BREAKING: old book mentions natural phenomena, proves existence of the supernatural.
