The Trump Presidency: Part 18

I kind of think the "fired/quit" distinction becomes pretty hazy when we're talking very high level appointed positions like this.

For Trump it is very important, he has to make sure that he is seen to be in charge.

I think part of it might also be he doesn’t want anyone to believe that an employee would willingly leave the most perfectly wonderful boss in the world.

It's interesting that he mentions future presidents. He also said some DEM should be impeached if elected. Seems he is contemplating the prospect of failure.

Hans

There have already been calls to impeach Warren, should she become President, and not for anything crime-related - unlike the few calls for Trump impeachment before he became President.

To poke at stuff that might be of interest -

Giuliani, linked to another legally challenged energy exec in his Ukraine pursuits, lobbied DOJ

So to recap, while his associates Lev and Igor were under criminal investigation by federal prosecutors, Giuliani met with the head of the Justice Department's criminal division on behalf of a client with whom he stayed in Madrid while he was working to extort Ukraine on behalf of Trump.

Ethics, anyone?

Guiliani's been thrown under the bus now. To no one's surprise.

Trump knew of the whistleblower report when he was claiming that he wanted nothing from Ukraine in return for unfreezing the aid, smashing yet another GOP defense talking point.

Letter reveals border officials rejected CDC recommendation to give detained families flu shots

And, of course, that's played a notable role in increasing the number of dead kids.

Kentucky GOP moves to strip Democratic governor of his authority, accelerating trend of power grabs

Yet more shenanigans.

Tucker Carlson is 'rooting for the Russians' when it comes to Ukraine

On Monday evening, Tucker Carlson devoted his Fox News show to informing his audience about what’s really important: not defending democracy, and not saving human lives, that’s for sure. During a discussion about Ukraine, Carlson announced his utter indifference to the slaughter of civilians and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. "Why do I care?” said Carlson. “Why do I care what's going on in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia? I'm serious." But that still didn’t make Carlson’s position quite as plain as he wanted. So he made it plainer. “Like, why do I care? And why shouldn't I root for Russia? Which I am.”

Carlson blew off suggestions that the United States has an interest in defending democracy against totalitarian regimes. He responded to concerns about Russia’s invasion, about people dying, and about democracy under threat the same way: “I don’t care.”

Human scum.

Top Pentagon Brass Discussing Resignation

Trump is making everything so much worse, after all, and siding with whatever's on Fox over them.

Speaking of Fox, though... Here's an article from a long time Fox News contributor with advice on how to deal with and hopefully prevent problems at Thanksgiving that are caused by Fox News.

How to Not Let a FOX NEWS ADDICT Ruin Your Thanksgiving This Year...GUARANTEED!

For my family, some of the suggestions likely won't be of value, but... there's also bits of explaining the underlaying problem that should likely be of interest to all.

Key point: Identity fusion is where your tribal social identity (“Deplorable/MAGA Trumper/ or Never Trumper for that matter) becomes your dominant identity. Needless to say (but why stop now), when your tribal identity becomes your dominant personal this-is-who-I-am-and-what-I-am-about, you are a full-blown raging Foxhole.

My real point? Via this emotionally predatory, highly choreographed and the digitized tribal identity fusion process, becoming a full-blown Fox News addict is very unhealthy both socially, mentally and physically for the victim unless most everyone they live around happens to be Foxholes too.

But in general, it’s this unrecognized power of Fox News’ white tribal identity hate-based propaganda porn programming + Fox News social media retargeting to massively speed up this process of cognitive conversion and full-blown tribal identity fusion is what my book identifies in deep and I think stunning detail (at least I was stunned). Also, there are various and dangerous mental and physical health issues that come to these partially desocialized Foxholes starting with a 45-60% higher risk of premature death.

Yes, 45-60% higher risk of premature death. Many desocialized Foxholes report they are chronically lonely—and that is another huge health epidemic as all now should be aware. With new polling research by Frank Luntz that nearly 1/3 of American adults (80 million-ish) report being estranged for at least one close family or long-time friend over politics, that’s a lot of Foxholes/Trumpholes (same thing.)

Which leaves me with mixed feelings. On one hand, **** Melanie and her complete and total ******** "be best" campaign. It should start with her husband. On the other hand, opioid addiction is absolutely terrible and people should accept help no matter who it's from.

Apparently she dropped the "online bullying" from her platform and changed it to "online safety":

Fake boos!! *

Trump, on signing the Woman's Suffrage Centennial Coin Act to commemorate the passing of the 19th Amendment in 1920: "I'm curious why wasn't it done a long time ago? And also, I guess the answer to that is because now I'm president, we get things done."

I've been looking at the screen for about 5 minutes trying to think of something to say, but I give up.
I know what you mean my brain just stopped, I think it is going to ring social services and claim it is in an abusive relationship it can't get out of!

But the word centennial was in it. As Belz... eluded to, this didn't happen in a vacuum. Take Trump's body of work as a guide.

I agree with someone else's previous take. I don't think Trump had a clue what centennial means.
All he knew was he was doing something so it was good.

The kids who booed that stupid Trump cow are great Americans. Hurting a Trump is always the right thing to do.

"They want to change the name of Thanksgiving!" Lucky for us, he vows not to allow it!

They also danced on the roof, or so they say.

The AP reported on Trump's latest meme. Namely that he fired ambassador Marie Yovanovitch because she was an Obama appointee who refused to hang Trump’s portrait in the U.S. Embassy.
TRUMP: “This ambassador that everybody says is so wonderful, she wouldn’t hang my picture in the embassy. OK? She’s in charge of the embassy. She wouldn’t hang it. It took like a year and a half or two years for her to get the picture up.” — Fox News interview Friday.

THE FACTS: She’s not the reason why Trump’s photo wasn’t displayed in the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine after his inauguration. Trump’s official portrait for display in federal facilities was not released by the White House until October 2017. Portraits for U.S. embassies came months after that...

[Yovanovitch] is a nonpartisan civil servant who served under both Republican and Democratic administrations as a 33-year State Department employee. Link

I feat this is going to happen more and more. The GOP knows its ability to win elections is shrinking, so expect more and more cheating.

Fight back.

If it is the legislature's power to pull back delegated authority then it isn't cheating.

To stick it to his ex wife. Simple.

Trump would view this as an "own goal". First, I don't know if Melanie is even a good mom. I almost never see either of them interact with Baron. Secondly, even if Trump got Baron he wouldn't know what to do with him. It would increase his cost of living because he'd have to hire some form of babysitter.

Nah, Trump would let Melanie take Baron. Easier for him to do his manly stuff.

Barron's a teenager, isn't he? He's not exactly in need of babysitters, and shortly he won't need to be in anybody's custody.

Eta: looked it up, he's 13. No need for babysitting, legal adult in five years.

As Varwoche pointed out earlier, it's Barron.
I agree with you though. There's no way trump would want to look after a child.

"I'll tell you what I've learned: Children are tough. Much tougher than people think. ... I'm a really good father, but not a really good husband. You've probably figured out my children really like me--love me--a lot. It's hard when somebody walks into the living room of Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach and this is supposed to be, like, a normal life. But they're very grounded and very solid. The hardest thing for me about raising kids has been finding the time. I know friends who leave their business so they can spend more time with their children, and I say, 'Gimme a break!' My children could not love me more if I spent fifteen times more time with them."

Trump doesn't know how old he is though, I bet. I just assumed the wealthy have nannyies until they're in their 20's.

Meh, I'll learn how it's spelled when Trump does :D I don't think he truly does though.

He's right. Spending more time with Trump could not possibly make someone love him more. It's impossible.

A quote from Taibbi's post-mortem on the '08 crash comes to mind.

"This is what happens when balding, overweight middle managers look in the mirror and see Brad Pitt."

Another day, another Trump crime exposed:

Trump's business told a lender that 99 percent of the building's commercial space was occupied as of December 2011 and 98.7 percent was occupied as of June 2012. But the president's business said in property-tax filings that the building's occupancy rate was 83 percent in January 2012 and was the same a year later, according to ProPublica.

https://thehill.com/policy/finance/...s-for-trump-tower-show-inconsistencies-report

No question about it. Trump regularly underreported to the tax man and made exaggerated claims to investors. That's tax fraud and securities fraud.

He's double dipping on his crimes.

Quick! We must investigate who reported this crime so they can be punished accordingly!

Trump is now saying Democrats are trying to change the name of Thanksgiving.

I'm sorry. As a Democrat, no one issued me that memo. Is it some obscure party platform plank?

Trump is now saying Democrats are trying to change the name of Thanksgiving.

I'm sorry. As a Democrat, no one issued me that memo. Is it some obscure party platform plank?

Unsurprisingly, this is yet another Trump lie based on lies he heard on FOX:

At his Tuesday night campaign rally in Florida, the president insisted that “some people” want to change the name of the holiday and “don’t want to use the term Thanksgiving,” likening this supposed anti-Thanksgiving sentiment to another infamous right-wing media invention.

“And that was true with Christmas. Now everybody is using Christmas again. And remember I said that,” Trump declared. “Now we’re gonna have to do a little work on Thanksgiving. People have different ideas on why it shouldn’t be called Thanksgiving. Everybody here loves the name Thanksgiving and we’re not changing it!”

In recent weeks, Fox News’ opinion shows have run countless segments insisting that liberals and progressives want to “cancel” the holiday and fight a “War on Thanksgiving,” tying it all to a single HuffPost opinion piece about the environmental impact of Thanksgiving dinner. The article, while providing readers with steps to reduce their carbon footprint, never called for the holiday to be abolished or even for Americans to stop celebrating it.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/fox-news-backs-trumps-war-on-thanksgiving-bs-he-got-from-fox

When he spouted this nonsense, the rally attendees were rather quiet seeming not to know what he was talking about. When he went into his "Merry Christmas" spiel they started cheering. That must have got them going because they cheered when he went back to the Thanksgiving nonsense. They believe everything he says regardless of how idiotic it is.

...Trump was hinting that he had chest pain which led him to seek medical care the other night....

This event has not seemed to attract much notice here, but it has on other message boards I visit. Trump's seemingly spur of the moment decision to head over to Walter Reed Medical Center last Saturday. First, CNN reported this did not seem to be a routine trip to Walter Reed Medical Center. The visit was not on Trump's public schedule or his private one. Saturday was a clear sunny day in Washington but instead of going by helicopter, as Trump (and most other presidents) has done in the past he went by motorcade. And the motorcade included an ambulance. Personnel at Walter Reed have told the news media that the president's arrival was not announced ahead of time as it normally would be. The staff was not alerted that the president was coming and that was very unusual.

Speculation has ranged from a panic attack to a mini-stroke. All presidents age in office. I've seen photos of Clinton 1992 vs Clinton 2000; Bush 2000 vs Bush 2008; Obama 2008 vs Obama 2016. They look older, strained and weary. Yet Trump's appearance has not seemed to change much, though that may not be a good sign.

Trump is under an amount and kind of stress far beyond anything he has dealt with previously. Is The Chosen One beginning to crack under the strain? Stay tuned. ;)

I've seen a case history of a similar character who underwent a cardiac episode where the patient's heart grew three sizes that day, but it was inspired by a mental and emotional breakthrough I just don't see Trump having.

For the record, in his rally he gave his usual bit:

[paraphrased to clip his repetitive schtick] "They said I had a massive heart attack.." He goes on and on and on telling the crowd how stupid people are.
"They said I had massive chest pain..." He goes on and on and on telling the crowd how stupid people are.
"They said I didn't wear a tie..." He goes on and on and on telling the crowd how stupid people are.

That's all I watched.

Not being American, I don't get CSPAN. But do they always make it a point of covering presidential speeches? Or is this something unique to Trump?

The whole thing is sketchy. I just note that the presidential motorcade always includes an ambulance. There was a mini-scandal a few years ago when the D.C. ambulance assigned to Obama ran out of gas on duty and had to be towed.

C-Span exists to cover government proceedings, which would include presidential addresses. What's different about Trump is that other presidents didn't hold so many out-of-town stadium rallies.

And you can watch C-Span online.

The answer is yes. CSPAN covers government and usually unedited with little or no color. They would cover Obama's or Bush's or some Energy Secretary's speech or the floor of the Senate and the House floor. There are multiple CSPAN channels and usually it is really boring.

Plus your character’s heart started out only two sizes too small. Trump’s would be a much bigger challenge.
