Watching people defend monarchy is like watching Americans defend the electoral college. Only someone who grew up with something so bonkers could possibly think it was a good idea.

I finally took a few minutes to look at this. They really do seem to have gone out of their way to crap on Meghan. There have to be editors who have simply decided to put a negative spin on anything she does.

They're mad as spit that an American wormed her way into their precious German royal family.

It has been my impression since the engagement that most of the self-proclaimed outrage at Markle's marriage to Harry was racially-motivated; and I see the outrage over this as no different; mostly angry racists trying to use this recent development as proof that they were "right all along".
I didn't realise that people were racist against Americans.

It really is amazing, how literally anything, no matter how banal, can be used as a smear. A pregnant woman putting her hands on her tummy; a fondness for avocados; anything she does.

The one that got me was the one claiming (I'd call it implying but it goes too far for that nicety) that she was endangering her [new] niece by her wedding flower choices. That's messed up.

Yeah, that too. All of them really.
So just to figure it out, I did look up the flower they referred to, and indeed it is poisonous if you eat it, but is very commonly used as a bridal bouquet, including by none other than Kate Middleton when she got married.

I didn't know something. Probably never worked it out because I've never paid much attention to her. Also, please see my sig.

Fair enough. You didn't know and I can't fault you for not knowing. I just thought that maybe you could have worked out from Checkmite's post that maybe there was something about her that you weren't aware of that a quick Google search would have revealed before making a comment like that.

And, fwiw, I don't completely agree with Checkmite that it's only racism that explains it. She's also a foreigner and previously married to someone else.

I suspect that royalty being American is somewhat worse than being black in the eyes of the British public, but I'm not exactly in tune with monarchist thinking in the UK these days.

Well we do know that a previous heir to the throne had to abdicate to marry an American divorcee, but that was almost a century ago.

I'm pretty sure the divorced thing is no longer a huge issue. I assume the Church of England has lightened up on the divorce thing, so there's no gigantic problem with the head of the CoE being divorced. I would think. The current heir is divorced and remarried, although only remarried after his ex was dead, to be fair. But three out of four of Liz' children have gotten divorced. I just don't think anyone cares about that.

Come to think of it, the first head of the Church of England had a couple of divorces, not to mention some other ways to end an inconvenient marriage. But in the intervening centuries attitudes toward that sort of thing hardened.

Well, yes. That's the whole reason there even is a Church of England in the first place, isn't it? Henry the 8th wanted an annulment or a divorce, and the Church wouldn't allow him one, so he founded his own church instead.

Have you checked out the conspiracy section? Apparently Meghan use to be a prostitute for the Hollywood Rich and Famous, definitely, a little bit of xenophobia from across the pond.

Harry has caved, apparently:
Prince Harry on first royal duty since talks with Queen

Prince Harry will host the Rugby League World Cup 2021 draw at Buckingham Palace later on Thursday morning.

He will meet representatives of the 21 nations taking part and local children playing rugby.

Meghan and the couple's son Archie are in Canada but Harry will reportedly stay in the UK for meetings next week.

It will be interesting times when she divorces him after they become financially independent.

Yep. All black women are gold diggers. She just wants a baby daddy for child support.

You sound kind of racist. :-)

She looks like a BPD loon to me, just like his mother. It's going to be interesting to watch it play out.

Jesus what has this woman done exactly outside of not being an upper class Brit that so many people are either outright hating her or rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of her eventual comeuppance or the revealing of her "true colors?"

People underestimate Harry. This is only a phase in his plan to split the monarchy and have himself named King of Canada. He and Meghan will rule Canada and pass the new Maple Throne to their descendents. They've been working on this for years now. They had a threesome with Trudeau, both to gain his support and to make a ton of money with the sex tape if they need to raise troops to defend themselves from an invasion by an angry UK.

We will see. I strongly suspect drama is going to follow her, just like Diana.

Presumably Trudeau was in ceremonial blackface?

Jesus what has this woman done exactly outside of not being an upper class pure white Brit that so many people are either outright hating her or rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of her eventual comeuppance or the revealing of her "true colors?"

FTFY.

And, as far as I can see, nothing. It's a simple case of PW(slightly)B.

Nobody is foaming at the mouth at the idea of Kate Middleton leaving William or suddenly whipping of her facade and revealing she was only after his money in the same way and as noted Royal Weddings are all celebrity weddings.

That is true, but she creates rather less drama than Meghan. All the drama around Diana was presumably because she was a strong black woman who just wanted to get along?

The British Press and Populace loved Diana for the first decade, it was a textbook fairytale story. The "Drama" didn't happen until all the behind the scenes stuff became public. And I don't remember the narrative even then being "She's an unworthy temptress who doesn't deserve Prince Charles."

Meghan hasn't done anything to deserve the narrative people are already writing for her.

And "creates less drama" sounds a lot like "She knows her place."

No. Diana was a loose cannon cop lost as a fish out of water in a world she didn't understand. She had to break the rules to get by and challenge the corrupt elite for the sake of justice. Coming this summer to a theater near you.

By contrast Meghan is a reluctant savior to a world gone mad, fighting to get her kids back while undergoing the hero's journey to master the responsibility that comes with her superpowers.
