Dr. Fauci on working w/President Trump:

"He asks a lot of questions. That's his nature. He's constantly asking questions. And I never, in the multiple times I've done that, where I said, 'For scientific reasons we really should do this,' that he hasn't said, 'Let's do it.'"

Congress must approve the deal, without all of the nonsense, today. The longer it takes, the harder it will be to start up our economy. Our workers will be hurt!

This is not about the ridiculous Green New Deal. It is about putting our great workers and companies BACK TO WORK!

The Defense Production Act is in full force, but haven’t had to use it because no one has said NO! Millions of masks coming as back up to States.

A day or two ago Fauci was being cited as being in support of Trump. This article (which links to a longer interview) about Fauci and how he disagrees with things that Trump is saying and doing.

It also contains tweets which suggest that Trump is getting frustrated with being contradicted by Fauci and may therefore remove him.

From the Science Mag link in the link:
Q: You’ve been in press conferences where things are happening that you disagree with, is that fair to say?

A: Well, I don’t disagree in the substance. It is expressed in a way that I would not express it, because it could lead to some misunderstanding about what the facts are about a given subject.
This is the kind of Trump apologist statements that are shameful. Maybe if he gets canned he can be more honest.

The World market for face masks and ventilators is Crazy. We are helping the states to get equipment, but it is not easy. Just got 400 Ventilators for @NYCMayor Bill de Blasio. Work beginning on 4 hospitals in New York! Millions of different type items coming!

...Apparently Trump assumes a newspaper quoting someone in a news story is the same as promoting those views. And ignores all the instances the Times quoted Trump himself...

I suspect there's something else at play here as well. Trump is certainly aware that he is widely criticized. I presume his 'handlers,' people like Brad Parscale, feel Trump must be seen as answering back, even if indirectly, in order to safeguard the support of those who have shown such extraordinary loyalty to Donnie. That if nothing else, Trump has to provide those supporters with 'talking points' -- a rationale they can use in discussions with one another, on message boards and Facebook -- to deflect away the criticism.

The chair of the Texas Democratic Party criticizes Trump's handling of the Covid-19 pandemic as a "bungling, chaotic and dishonest start-stop approach." Trump and his handlers probably presume they have to make some defensive response. Instead of getting into a war of words with the Texas Democrat, they reframe the criticism as coming from the New York Times. They make it between Trump and the Times. They know -- I think we all know by now -- Trump's base will accept it.

Instead of asking, "Could president Trump have responded better when the virus began to show up in the U.S.?" his supporters will ask, "Why does the Times print fake news?" With Trump's digital staff carefully watching how all this trends on social media.

President Trump: "We must try hydroxychloroquine & azithromycin."
The Media: "That's false hope! It's not approved for use yet!"
New York Gov. Cuomo: "We must try hydroxychloroquine & azithromycin."
The Media: "This is real leadership! What a fantastic idea!"
And another side effect of incompetrump's promotion of this drug are shortages and people who need it for their autoimmune disease can't get it.

I was on hydroxychloroquine myself until I had an allergic reaction.

I see there are reports of this drug already being hoarded, stockpiled or prescribed by prescribers to friends/family rather than patients to the point that several states have initiated limitation steps.

Considering the predictable response by the public when the president declares that a drug to treat the virus might be a 'game changer', would it have been reasonable to have expected the administration to warn states ahead of time that he was going to make such a proclamation? This would have enabled the regulatory ptb to act preemptively to limit the effect of any panicked reaction. Perhaps the states were warned, I don't know, but I have my doubts considering trump's penchant for making announcements without consulting stakeholders.

With this administration? No, it would have been entirely unreasonable to have expected them to have thought that far ahead. "Thinking far ahead" is explicitly what Trump does not do.

What a shame.

I used to like him in a lot of his roles... (His role as a vampire hunter in Vampires was really enjoyable.) But now it seems he's really gone off the deep end. I doubt I'll be able to enjoy him in anything else he does.

(Fortunately, it seems like his career was rather on a downward track anyways.)

Well you know incompetrump is listening to his snobby cronies when he says it will only kill 1%, we need to open the economy back up.

His ignorance grows in proportion to his frustration with reality.

I was going to say! I have some great news for you! He's not going to be in much else as it's been his complaint that no one will hire him because he's a righty.

In the U.S., 1% is over 3 million people. Most of whom will be over 60. Many of whom are likely to be Trump supporters. Maybe he's sowing the seeds of his own defeat.

I have no doubt that DrFauci has been disappeared from press conferences so the Trump can indulge his own ignorance and idiocy without fear of immediate contradiction from a medical expert. This is bad enough but I suspect Trump specifically intends to loosen the already poor and incomplete shelter in place rules. This will be a two fold disaster. It will not help the economy and it will even further accelerate the already rapid spread of coronavirus in the USA.

My deepest fear is that Trump will even further marginalize Dr Fauci’s role in fighting this epidemic. He can do it quietly so that it will be difficult to publicly challenge. My only hope is that the Republicans in Congress will convince Trump not to do it. And that Fauci and the medical community will be able to alert the public that this has happened. Perhaps Trump can be convinced that every coronavirus death in the USA after Fauci is marginalized will be blamed on him by many.

Possibly.

Then people in reasonable health and/or access to excellent medical treatment will have a much greater probability of survival than those who don't.

I expect that minorities have, on average, poorer health and less access to high quality healthcare so it might not backfire as one might hope. :(

It is very important that we totally protect our Asian American community in the United States, and all around the world. They are amazing people, and the spreading of the Virus....

....is NOT their fault in any way, shape, or form. They are working closely with us to get rid of it. WE WILL PREVAIL TOGETHER!

You omitted "Trump Tweets" from that post, but it works because he never wrote that.

Watching another of Gov. Cuomo's press conferences, I can't help wondering is it too late to nominate him for President -- in either party, or both?

Just for the record, that 1% isn't 1% of the total population, it's 1% of those infected. If 1% of the population in China had died, that would be close to 14 million deaths. Instead it's reported to be about 3,300. That's a death rate for those who contract the disease (about 82,000) of about 4%. That's still very high.

No. The primaries are choosing delegates for the nominating convention, but if the candidates they are pledged to release them they can nominate anyone they like.

Well, the Trump Town Hall on Fox was supposed to begin 45 minutes ago at 11am local. When I tuned in, they said he'd be on at 11:30. Now it's 11:45 and I see Pence answering questions from Dr. Oz.

No sign of the Prez yet.

But as long as he sticks to answers about how the government is handling the crisis, he's still in his purview. When he gets to talking about possible treatments, he's not.

No big loss. They are just a replacement for Trump rallies. Eventually he will start talking about his totally unfair impeachment, then Hillary's lost 30 000 emails. Then Comey. Rinse, repeat.

So take the amount of money they are sad about losing, divide it by 3 million and oh dear god we've done it.

We just found the formula for calculating the value of a human life.

SInce when has the GOP congress ever stood up to TRump?
Disaster on a massive scale is now inevitable, I am afraid.

Our people want to return to work. They will practice Social Distancing and all else, and Seniors will be watched over protectively & lovingly. We can do two things together. THE CURE CANNOT BE WORSE (by far) THAN THE PROBLEM! Congress MUST ACT NOW. We will come back strong!

How the **** do you practice social distancing as a server? A Bartender? A massage therapist? A grocery store clerk? This guy is a ******* moron.

Who is this "our people"? I suspect he means all the people who perpetually suck up to him, and also those who protect his Russian bank Mastercard.

It's clear that Fauci and the Surgeon General are being silenced.
Science is now fake news.

It had been for the last three and a half years....

Oh, it's been much longer than that. Trump is just the end result of the modern Republican party, but it's been anti-science for a couple of decades at least. And 90% of what Trump has actually done -- tax cuts for the rich, right wing judges -- would have been the same with any other Republican President.
