As much of a toadie as Barr has seemed to be, I don't think he's a full-on, foam-flecked Trump devotee like Rudy. I think Barr just believes that a president has powers beyond the law (in fact, beyond reason). I think he's prepared now to shuffle off with his head down and hope no one notices.

That certainly could have driven his actions. I don't know a lot about Barr beyond his questionable legal choices. I just have the impression that he was more than simply a suck up in love with reflected power, which some (perhaps many) of Trump's people have been.

Being seen as a real lawyer was/is important to him I think. I don't know why he seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. He already said a few weeks ago that everything is political which I thought was a startling admission at the time.

He might be thinking, "Yeah, I'm a toady but at least I'm not a hack like Giuliani."

He made himself disappear - that's his October surprise.

I wonder how exposed Barr is to lawsuits and indictments, because he did several things that weren't good law. Still, he may be immune.

I had a thought besides the guy is hiding his COVID, he knows Trump will be ordering him to pull out a dozen lawsuits about vote counts and he just doesn't want to do that given this is the end of his ride. He's still pretending no one has noticed what an idiot he's already been.

Yes, it's very possible that Barr is unwilling to follow the road over the cliff, whether out of an attack of conscience or an act of self-preservation. It's amazing he hasn't popped up, though. Maybe it really is covid. In any case, it's certainly the end of his ride, and good riddance.

At some point Barr refused to quarantine himself after the Rose Garden super spreader event, then maybe after the exposure prepping Trump for the debate, it was on some news source I can't now find, he did quarantine himself.

Then Giuliani said on a news program that after the debate event everyone tested positive for COVID except him. He named the people that tested positive and it included "Bill".

That was in early Oct. I believe. It's been a month and we saw Barr sometime before his current absence. The dates didn't exactly match up for Barr having COVID now. But it's possible.

Probably not. It's going to be hard to find anyone who would want a job with 2.5 months worth of security and a whole list of variables about future employment. No one knows what the Republicans will look like in a year. Who needs the risk of being radioactive to a party trying to move on past Trump?

I'll also note the USAs out in the districts have resoundingly responded with a, "Yeah, I'll get right on that," to Barr's other questionably legal orders. The DOJ hasn't brought a single case of sedition, even after Barr's guidance to do so.

I'm not sure that the GOP will want to move on past President Trump - or more specifically, the Trump base is so important to GOP support that anyone even hinting at failing to support President Trump risks being primaried.

President Trump was a huge draw in the last election, the GOP cannot afford to risk not having that draw in 2022 and 2024 - never mind that the Trump 2024 campaign will start on 21 January 2021.

Thought I would bump this as it all seems to have gone very quiet. Surely this is still so important that the parties involved would still be pushing it? I mean children in danger can’t be OK now... You’d almost think there was some other motive than wanting children protected...

One thing I can see is that on a political level the accusations alone were very effective, not seen Hunter win one EC vote.

He's still pretending no one has noticed what an idiot he's already been.

Yes, it's very possible that Barr is unwilling to follow the road over the cliff, whether out of an attack of conscience or an act of self-preservation. It's amazing he hasn't popped up, though. Maybe it really is covid. In any case, it's certainly the end of his ride, and good riddance.

At some point Barr refused to quarantine himself after the Rose Garden super spreader event, then maybe after the exposure prepping Trump for the debate, it was on some news source I can't now find, he did quarantine himself. Then Giuliani said on a news program that after the debate event everyone tested positive for COVID except him. He named the people that tested positive and it included "Bill". That was in early Oct. I believe. It's been a month and we saw Barr sometime before his current absence. The dates didn't exactly match up for Barr having COVID now. But it's possible.

I'm not sure that the GOP will want to move on past President Trump - or more specifically, the Trump base is so important to GOP support that anyone even hinting at failing to support President Trump risks being primaried. President Trump was a huge draw in the last election, the GOP cannot afford to risk not having that draw in 2022 and 2024 - never mind that the Trump 2024 campaign will start on 21 January 2021.
