I understand what those letters mean, but don't get your point.

I think that *is* a_unique_person's point.

Levelling up, like MAGA was something to sound good for those who felt left out by "the metropolitan elites".

There wasn't much behind it.

Johnson makes another minister look ridiculous as Cleverley is forced to defend the Chequers' wedding reception on the media round this morning only for it to be moved later on.

Johnson needs to have some amusements.

Why would anyone go to the media to defend Johnson when he's out?

They would have to be really stupid and hardly ministerial material...

Old habits die hard.

Although, to be fair, James Cleverly is rather good at making himself look ridiculous without any help from Johnson.

I'm sure it has been noted in this thread, it has elsewhere, that the majority of Johnson's cabinet are there precisely because they are not ministerial material and therefore no threat to Johnson himself, the ultimate chancer

And so the comedy continues. The Daily Express thanking Johnson for 'giving us our freedom' and the DM raging at the Tory Party 'WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?'

What had me giggling over my coffee was the idea of Suella 'Lawbreaker' Braverman, Priti 'Jack Boot' Patel and Grant Shapps (all five of them), all 'considering standing for leadership'. These halfwits really believe they are statesman material by dint of having been appointed by the oleaginous rotund one, not realising the opposite is true: they were appointed because as dullards and mediocrities, they served to make Johnson look like a genius.

This is what the UK has become. Take a look at the line up for those vying for the premiership. All we need is Michael 'Unctuous Bastard' Ellis to join the fray.

Yes and that the MP for Braintree, Mr Cleverly, is not an example of nominative determinism.

He even manages to stand out within Johnson's government. And he has quite some competition there

Does anyone know what 'levelling up' actually is? I've regarded it as a joke, yet another non-policy from Boris, but I see other Tories on TV going on about it as if it's going to outlast him.

Yes - it's about making as many of your mates multi-millionaires as possible. One of the few policies this government has successfully instituted.

...Then we have the unedifying sight of the Labour Party trying to keep Keir 'BeerKorma' Starmer under wraps until - apparently, according to the twitter grapevine - his appeal against the FPN goes through and in the meantime there is a superinjunction stopping the press from reporting it. I half believe this, as he seems very edgy about all of this. Shadow Deputy of the Labour Party Angela 'Growler' Rayner said by the tabloids to be secretly meeting a married MP in hotel rooms and who suddenly pops up and admits she was in Durham on the Labour campaign trail after all, after having denied it, seems an awful prospect as a future key politician, should Labour win the next election, as polls today show they are 40%:28% in terms of voting popularity.

Of course all the above is pure nonsense - the online equivalent of malignant gossiping over the garden fence.

Went and had a look outside and there has been **** all levelling up round here.

But, we all know that BlowJob thinks this part of the world is Nichola Sturgeon's responsibility...

Exactly.

I've seen anonymous accounts mention this, all prefaced with "apparently"

Like Trump's, "it's been said"

And there's plenty of people willing to smear Starmer

There's no reason to not to wait for the official answer.

Heads up: John Crace retweets that Starmer and Raynor will NOT be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice. Starmer to issue a statement this afternoon.

BREAK: Durham Police will not be issuing any fixed penalty notices in respect of the Beergate gathering and no further action will be taken.

Durham Police: "It has been concluded that there is no case to answer for a contravention of the regulations, due to the application of an exception, namely reasonably necessary work."

A Labour Party spokesperson said: “Keir Starmer and Angela Rayner have always been clear that no rules were broken in Durham. The police have completed their investigation and have agreed saying that there is no case to answer.”

Keir Starmer will make a press statement this afternoon and take questions.

All those front page headlines from the Non-Dom press.

Meanwhile on the Lebedev meeting - I recall seeing this in 2019, so why were more MPs not interested in it

At home or residential care for, usually, the terminally ill. Often cancer sufferers.

It's far from a joke, as I can testify ;)

Yup. My dad got great Hospice care in his final months, so I'm always up for helping out a Hospice.

On the other hand, didn’t something similar apply to Partygate?

No, the Police hadn't looked into the Number 10 parties and only did so when Sue Gray's governmental enquiry handed over evidence, Durham Police had looked into Keir Starmer's meal & concluded there were no charges to answer but were pressured into reinvestigating by a newspaper & Mad Nads.

Meanwhile human(?) wig stand Michael Fabricant is making insinuations that the investigation was a fix. Starmer, Rayner & Durham Police should sue him..

I observe in passing that the Daily Fail has changed its initial headline ("no case to answer") to an inflammatory "another establishment stitch-up", the latter allegedly the claim of the hard-working ordinary people they have spoken to.

Not like the Fail to let the facts get in the way of a headline, of course.

FTFY. The Met were doing their best to do nothing.

Rishi Sunak, who held a green card requiring him to declare himself a permanent US resident, and who also benefited from his wife's non-dom tax status, while being listed as a beneficiary of her Cayman Island trust, says his patriotism to the UK is "non-negotiable".

Carrot Flower Queen's verdict on Sunak's fillum declaring his candidacy: "It's like some shopping channel bollocks you watch in the middle of the night when you can't sleep. Who thought that was a good look?"

He's getting ready for a 'making the right impression yet devoid of meaningful content' campaign?

Rishi launches his campaign:

I’m standing to be the next leader of the Conservative Party and your Prime Minister.

Let’s restore trust, rebuild the economy and reunite the country. #Ready4Rishi

Rebuild the economy? Remind me, who was in charge of it for the last 3 years?

The new Education Secretary is only 38 and her real life experience outside of politics involved working in marketing for Marie Clare magazine and WWE wrestling.

SHows how deperate BOJO is getting.
I wonder if the strategy it too make his life such a living hell that he will quit of his own accord.

Oh dear

That was the PREVIOUS Education secretary - she resigned yesterday.

Now it's James-disproving-nominative-determinism-Cleverly

Don't forget integrity - someone who didn't resign for getting fined for illegal parties but did for his own ambition

Damn- I heard it and knew it reminded me of something

Rishi Sunak is hugely likeable, has an infectious laugh and easily the brightest of the bunch. I don't think he will win because he doesn't really know what 'patriotic' means so people will question whether he also knows what 'integrity' means, or whether they are just more meaningless soundbites hoping to appeal to what he pictures as a Tory voter. Saying that his parents come from East Africa, he went to Stanford, an Ivy League university (in the most beautiful grounds, by the way), married a woman from India whose father is extremely wealthy on paper, and still had a US Green Card when he ought to have known he should have declared it and handed it in, instead of claiming he forgot. If the vote is whittled down to two remaining candidates (if you recall Leadsom pulled out leaving May not needing the membership vote) and I think Wallace will be very popular - and he made a good impression when he came to Finland to talk to our troops - then Wallace is likely to get the membership vote, although I have to say he lacks certain charisma. I can't see Jeremy Hunt making a comeback and Tugendhat is too left and remainer for the ERG mob. The others haven't a hope, although I hear Penny Mordaunt is a strong contender.

"The new education minster has been criticised after appearing to give the middle finger to protesters while entering Downing Street.
Andrea Jenkyns was filmed making the gesture with her hand as she walked through the black gates on Thursday.
Jenkyns was appointed to the role of parliamentary under-secretary of state at the department for education on Friday in a reshuffle by prime minister Boris Johnson."

She clearly does give the finger to the crowd outside Downing St. There is another video of her shouting at them as they boo her.

He won't wing because there are a lot of Tories who don't want an Indian as party leader.

Humbled to serve as she said
