That is the fear I have. They will just shift all that hatred and rage to the next leader along whenever the top dog gets killed or given life in the big house.
An obvious solution would be to identify and isolate all of these people. They want some "place of their own" run by their own rules. Well, give it to them. There's plenty of empty islands in the Aleutians where they can set up their own kingdom and run it how they like and worship their own gods. Trumpistan 4evah! Just don't let them off it, and let them put up their wall, real or virtual, so no Muslims, libruls, leftists, socialists, Negroes or Jooz can invade them. Let them be happy in their isolationism. |

I'm cautiously optimistic about the nest week or so. The next four years, not so much.
Massive security efforts have belatedly been put in place at the Capitol and other important places. Meanwhile, the Trumptroopers are a bit stunned at their failure to overturn the election. Perhaps the best thing about the TrumpTroopers is that the whole movement is all Generals and no Privates. Every one of them thinks he and he alone will lead the coming revolution. There's no command structure. What we need to fear in the coming years is the lone wolves. Those who, as noted above, think they'll lead the revolution, but will act on it themselves. Think Timothy McVeigh. I expect a number of assassinations and bombings. Not being clairvoyant, I can't predict with any confidence. But it might get bad. |

Assorted militia groups still exist. These are not going away & are more likely to grow than shrink. Additionally, Proud Boys still exist, Three Percenters still exist, etc..
We can't rule out that in the next few years some of these might not do something other than run around in the woods eating earthworms & acorns. I'm not disagreeing about the lone wolfs, though. |

All the law enforcements interviews I have seen have stated their biggest problem with intelligence is trying to decide which threats are real, and which are just internet warriors talking the piss and trying to out macho each other. THey simply do not have the manpower to check out every violent tweet or post out there.

A photo of a National Guardsman at Capitol Hill showed him with a M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, US Military's standard Light Machine Gun. In the US Army, I had some basic Training with them. They , when in belt fed mode, can do real real damage to a charging group of men. They are not fooling around this time.

DC is probably safe. It's already heavily policed and now it is augmented with national guard troops. Anyone going there to commit crimes is walking into a trap.
DC cops got caught with their hands in the fascist cookie jar and are probably on hair triggers to try to dispel the well earned reputation as fascist enablers. State houses are more likely targets, with many of these states allowing the open carrying of rifles and large crowds of heavily armed CHUDs already showing up for reactionary protest events. It would not be difficult for a large mob of heavily armed "peaceful" protestors to assemble and get whipped up into firefight with cops, and in many cases they would probably outgun the police. States like Washington and Oregon seem like important ones to keep an eye on, given their long history of fascist events. But every state should be on high alert for local reactionary mobs trying to get in on the action. |

This is about what I'm thinking, too.
I think the failure of the Capitol Putsch has taken the wind out of the sails of the MAGA crowd, and they will lick their wounds more than anything else. However, in some, those wounds will fester, and that could lead to another McVeigh or something similar. |

I'm watching for two things this weekend. How intense the protests at the state capitols are and how aggressive the police response is. If the police and various National Guard troop kill, wound or arrest enough of the enemy, I expect a muted response from them on Wednesday. If the enemy is successful in storming a few state capitols, I expect Wednesday will be much worse.

That is also my prediction. The Capitol is going to look like a ghost town on inauguration day.
People normally choose life over certain death so the Trumpists will stay home. Trump will be able to truthfully declare that more people attended his inauguration than Biden's. |

I wonder if Trump is stupid enough to risk actually still going forward with some sort of big, grand counter-inauguration.

The radical Right is fractured and will stay so, now that Trump isn't seen as the credible figure to rally around: I doubt that a relevant number of nutjobs think they can prevent Biden from getting sworn in.
I see a swelling of the Militia Movement, but a deflating of the pro-Trump support: Signal might be a safe messaging app, but it is not a replacement for Facebook and Twitter. For pure convenience, people stop being so extreme on visible Social Media. Radical Elements will have a much harder time organizing ostensibly peace protests as a cover for their violence. |

That's true - but such movements are often most dangerous when they are in their death throes.
I don't see much ability to reorganize well enough to put on great big demonstrations anymore. At least not after inauguration, and any events that day will just be carryover momentum. Many of the actual organized militia type groups will keep their heads down for a while just as the did after the Oklahoma City bombing. But the risk of parting shots by very small groups of people or individuals bent on going out in a blaze of glory seems pretty high, at least for a while. |

You know Che Guevara gave up a comfortable upper class life in Argentina and medical career to live in the mountains in Cuba in Spartan conditions getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. Revolutions take patience, discipline and sacrifice in addition to men, arms and financing. I don’t see these Proud Boys guys willing to do that. They planned to overthrow congress and be back in time for the buffet. They whined about the lack of toilets around the Capitol.
