Pete Evans, the woo-mongering antivax conspiracy theorist Australian celebrity chef has had his show cancelled.

Channel 7 Has Sacked Notorious Dickhead Pete Evans From His $800k A Year Job

This has been going on for 11 years? It sounds like the only reason it stopped, was because the ratings had dropped.

That is of course a good thing too.

Seven would be contractually required to continue to pay him for the full term of his contract, however his conspiracy activities and TGA fine objectively allowed Seven to sack him for bringing the network into disrepute, thus saving Seven money.

On a side issue, Seven announced to advertisers, in late 2019, that it is bringing back "Big Brother" in 2020. Now think about that. How popular would a show about a group of annoying young people, confined to one house be, when in 2020 real Australians are bored with being confined to their own houses during the lockdown? You can see why Seven is in financial trouble.

After about season 2 it was transformed from a reasonably interesting amateur cooking contest into a dreadful reality TV style badly contrived cat-fight. And promoted as such. It ceased to be interesting at all at that point and we stopped watching. So we have missed all of Evan's complete and utter inanity including his "paleo" phase. He was in trouble previously when he, much like Trump did with bleach, advocated giving dangerous foods to babies and toddlers. How he and the show survived until now is a complete mystery.

I hate to say this, but I hope it works. One of my sons' partner is in a marketing managerial position for Seven, having worked with other networks. She thinks the network will get through and that their advertising base will not badly erode.

I think the three commercial networks (7,9,10) and two public (ABC, SBS) has worked well for a long time. There is pressure on all broadcasters, but I think these five networks will survive.

Kerry Stokes was smart twenty five years ago. After Better Homes & Gardens:TV show became a hit he bought Murdoch Magazines and obtained the right to publish BH&G: Magazine. He could cross promote and reduce his anticipated profit from TV and magazine, as combined they brought in more profit. Stokes then licensed out Better Homes & Gardens : Live ( basically a large home show) and could further cross promote and reap combined profits.

Tim Worner, the last CEO, then lost all these advantages as he was too busy having an affair. Last week Seven had to sell off Pacific Magazines (including BH&G: Magazine) to remain liquid and had already lost BH&G:Live as his in-house event team were useless. It is a disaster.

Meanwhile Nine has fully acquired Fairfax newspapers & magazines and Macquarie Radio Network, so they can cross promote in ways that Seven can no longer do.

It takes years to build a great media business grouping and only one year for an idiot to destroy it.

I've never understood the appeal of shows like Big Brother but the fact is, a lot of people love them.

It's like a show called Gogglebox. This is a program where people switch on their TV to watch other people watching TV. What the fascination is, is beyond me, but the ratings seem to be good enough that it keeps going.

I don't think people being in lockdown will detract from the interest in these types of shows.
