Charles III's coronation

"The fragrant chrism oil that will be used to anoint King Charles during his coronation in May was made sacred in Jerusalem on Friday."

phew! I was worried about the oil for a while back there.

What? Not his own Duchy Originals Organic Olive Oil? Perhaps the loyal subjects can chuck bottles of it at him to add to the moment.

When do we get updates on His Majesty's new underpants? Has Camilla finally talked him into those sexy leopard print thongs?

Surely this stuff is better for anointing oil for a king?

There has to be a lot of training, preparation, and rehearsal for this coronation because this time they're getting a monarch who runs a very real risk of having the crown placed on the wrong end. Expert tutelage is needed to train all involved which end is which on Charles, and despite all the great advances in technology it's just really, really difficult. NASA is loaning them a supercomputer AI program that can identify and distinguish from each other a hundred thousand asteroids a second, but there's great concern that there simply isn't enough electricity currently generated in Europe and Asia together to power it sufficiently to determine which is Charles's head and which his posterior.

It probably doesn't matter which end, ultimately, if they are indistinguishable.

It matters because one end spews an endless stream of disgusting waste, and at the other end poops come out!

I think the traditional way to determine this is to compare the profile to that of a horse, but results were inconclusive.

It’s a Saturday.

By an annoying quirk of employer I would probably have to work that day despite not being in the UK, but I will hopefully still be on paternity leave so will miss it. Slightly extreme solution, but there it is.

We will be on our way to Scottishland on the Saturday, to the heart of Jacobite McGregor territory. Which seems appropriate...

And on the Monday we are making a ferry crossing to North Uist.

This was all sorted ages before Chucky announced the dates, so I had a moment of panic that he was going to **** up all our plans and the ferries would be off or something. Thankfully CalMac are being sensible and still running their normal services...

Means we'll be well out of the way when our village Royalists are having their inevitable do at the WI hut. Fortunately no-one actually invited me to the platinum jubilee one or the Dead Brenda Wake.

I bet he's going to ruin a whole day of the Chelsea Flower show coverage. All the BBC presenters will be having orgasms on camera over how great it was that the newly appointed president of the lucky sperm club nodded at one of the display gardens.

I look forward for the first state opening of Parliament, where Chuck The Third gets the doors of the House of Commons shut in his face, until he ..or rather his spolkesman...asks nicely permission to enter.
he can thaink the first Chuck on the trhone for that little ceremony.

Is that the part where someone dresses like Gandalf and says "you shall not pass!" and then Charles has to wait until Captain Peacock says "are you free, Mr Windsor?" These British ceremonies are so rich in history and whimsy and possibly also Lord Peter Wimsey?

I was wondering: If William and Kate and all their offspring fall out of a window in Windsor Castle or wherever, such that Harry becomes Crown Prince and then Charles dies of a heart attack the night after his coronation because of whatever Camilla asked him to perform - is there perhaps a Coronation Chapel in Las Vegas that Harry and Meghan could drive through and show for all times to come how it is down with little preparation and cost, and even less style?

And why is this thread in (Non-US) Politics, anyway? It belongs in Gossip & Assorted Oddities.

Wouldn't happen. When Harry swept dramatically down that grand staircase and threw his glass of wine into the fireplace, the queen was so enraged she removed his Horcrux from the Satanical Array. Harry can never inherit, no matter who dies.

But the question is moot, anyway: for safety reasons to assure the succession, William is not permitted to be in the presence of himself at any point in time. This guarantees that should disaster strike him he won't be harmed.

I read that before the ceremony Charles will be baptized in a bath of Earl Grey tea, and if he forgets to tip the servants they may be less than careful with the temperature control.

I also read that according to a recent poll 68% of the UK agreed they'd rather have Olivia Coleman pretending to be the last queen for the rest of her life than have Charles. (19% said the same for Scott Thompson, from the Kids in the Hall.)

I looked at the schedule of events. I don't see anything about half the country standing in a really long line. Hardly seems British really.

As I mentioned, some of us are heading in the direction of away.

We don't usually travel on Saturdayss if we can help it, so I'm hoping Chucky being coronated might keep the traffic down a bit...

I mispoke, It was Chuck The Second who was responsible for that custom.

Actually the Movie "Cromwell" shows what happened which Charles the Second forced his way with an armed guard into the House of Commons to arrest several House members. The movie is full of gross innaccuracies. but it pretty much got that right. Ony thing it got wrong in that scene is Cromwell was not one of the members arrested; he was still a back bencher at that point, not a leader of the oppostion to the King like the movie portrays him as.

Charles I, surely?

I'll catch up with the highlights, but I won't sit through the whole thing.

More importantly, do we get the day off as good Royal subjects?

I’d be happy to piss on a photo of Chuck his Royal Loonness in commemoration.

No amount of money would get me to actually watch the coronation though.
