Like most things religion, it's complicated. Seems that being a Hindu does not require a rejection of Christianity. A quick google came up with this:
"Hindus believe that Jesus, like Lord Krishna, is just another avatar of the Divine, who came down to show humanity in the righteous way of life. This is another point where Krishna resembles Christ, a figure who is both "fully human and fully divine." Seems that paying lip service to a Christian tradition may not be a big deal to at least some Hindus. |

What is your source for this intimate information?
Royals live differently from us commoners. I had assumed that the King sleeps in the King's bed in the King's bedroom and the Queen sleeps in the Queen's bed in the Queen's bedroom. When an intruder entered Buckingham Palace unchallenged in the early morning a few years ago he walked into the late Queen's bedroom and woke her up. The press made much of reporting that her husband in the Prince Consort's bedroom was unaware of any of this. |

That's not very nice is it? Reminds me of a passage from one of my books re the (fictionalised) coronation of Queen Karina the day after her marriage to Erik XIV (Sweden):
He bowed deeply before the altar, and then carefully lifted up the crown. As he walked towards Karina, his leg gave way beneath him. He reached out his arm to break the fall. Somehow the crown fell away from his fingers, which he battled to save. He thought he had it, but then it was gone. The crown crashed to the stone floor, seeming to bounce several times away from his grasping hand. He found himself looking at the flagstone floor. “I-I must have fainted,” he said as Catherina rushed forward, with others to help him up. Someone else retrieved the crown. Blushing furiously, he took the crown, held it against his stomach and once more bowed deeply, before walking slowly in measured steps to the throne. Karina, already nervous, had jumped when he fell, and now she was tense, her hands gripping the sides of the throne. King Erik’s eyes blazed with anger. From the ceremony today, I feared this guy was going to trip down the steps with the crown. |

Did you see the odd looking man in the fifth row, with the big nose, walrus mustache, dark glasses, wearing a trench coat? It was Meghan Markle! She snuck in, disguised! It was probably her who brought that beach ball.

Penny Mordaunt looked like she'd been despatched by Finis Valorum to negotiate with Trade Federation Viceroy Nute Gunray over the blockade of Naboo.

My verdict: went on too long. Missing the cachet of previous royal events, possibly coming so swiftly ont he heals of the Queen's funeral. Didn't have the same air of excitement as Charles' and Diana's wedding, William's and Kate's wedding or even Harry's and Meghan's nor any of the Queen's various jubilees. I was struck by how old Charles looked. Not sure if that was because of years on the whisky or whatever causes his rosacea. Not being unkind, I don't think he will reign much longer than twelve years at most.

Mea culpa. That post was very much me, very much what I did think. I mustn't pretend otherwise, because while I did respond to another post there, but I was in full agreement with that post at the time I wrote that post. Yes, I did realize immediately after posting that comment that it was a shallow thing to think and to say. |

ffs, now we're getting endless coronation chatter and action replays on the BBC. I'd quite like to see some ordinary news. I demand a refund!

When you buy it on DVD you'll get behind-the-scenes featurettes, including footage of Charles getting makeup in his trailer, Camilla having new skin applied, Meghan sneaking around the empty palace while everyone's gone and dipping Charles's toothbrush into the toilet, etc. There's also a recreation of the ceremony using puppets, and a comedy skit where Patricia Routledge plays the late queen appearing as a ghost to contest the coronation. Each DVD comes with a scratch-and-sniff card so you can smell the ceremony, Charles's cologne, and the surviving corgi.

She had to carry Excalibur and then return it to a body of water afterwards - a task for which she is famously well-suited.

Watched a bit of the show. Much to my surprise, I found I enjoyed it, all of my in-principle objections to the monarchy notwithstanding.
They do it really well, these guys. Quite the pros, I have to say. A certain soothing something about how the whole thing's being conducted. And nor, I have to say, does Charles look at all out of place there. |

I was relieved they kept him on a velvet leash so he couldn't run away. Then every time he tried, those young ruffians held him back. And then they took him to the balcony and showed him all his exits were blocked by an enraged crowd. And even if he did manage to escape, the helicopters and planes proved that they could still get him.
I wish we had done that with our king. |

I understand the idea of splendor and looking regal and wretched excess and all that. But the crowns are too tall. They cross the line between "here's proof these are the royalest royals you've ever seen" and "let's keep these precious jewels well away from their greasy scalps," by about four centimeters.

Watching a part of documentary about Charles and its amusing to see the headlines from the same newspapers gushing over the Coronation were denouncing him when he married Camilla and demanding he step aside.

Watching this video with its pomp and fanfare made me realize that humans have not really evolved much beyond baboons.
In 2023 "god save the king" is seriously uttered with all that swank and wasteful ostentation of a mafioso family brandishing the loot of centuries of rapine and pillaging and plunder. Just demonstrates how meaningless humanity is.
And the article below further illustrates how pernicious this system really is... they obliviously deride China's fascistic treatment of their Hong Kong demonstrators feigning concern for the demonstrators... what hypocritical thugs. ‘Something out of a police state’: Anti-monarchy protesters arrested ahead of King Charles’ coronation

I was also rather surprised how terribly old King Charles looked.
I'm never surprised to see a person being helped up from a kneeling position, because that is something that older people rarely do, but was astonished to see the King being helped up from a chair. |
