They're reviving a new ancient traditional ritual! Charles will attempt to catch the stone as it is dropped upon him from a great height.

https://www.mountvernon.org/plan-you...y-war-weekend/

Meanwhile, in the US, while you award the winner of the lucky sperm club, we're having "Revolutionary War Weekend" on the grounds of Mt. Vernon, George Washington's home. You can see a mock-up of a Continental Army camp, meet living history interpreters, watch cavalry drills, and hear Washington address his troops. I'm sure it's a coincidence but I like to think we timed this event to be dicks.

"Subjects" is a pretty offensive way to refer to citizens of a nation, IMO.
Legally speaking they're still subjects. The monarchy holds absolute power over the land and inhabitants thereof, the use of which it temporarily delegates to the government of the day.

It's what happens when you don't have a constitution.

We are also citizens, but yes I hate the idea of being a "subject".

Plus the UK does have a constitution but it's not a codified one.

Why? It's the "tradition" since at least last Tuesday!

Seriously Charles is the monarch of the UK, Scotland is part of the UK, to not have each country's pathetic symbolism involved would be the thing that would piss me off. Don't forget the SNP even want (or did) to retain him as their monarch if Scotland becomes independent.

Since the throne of England passed centuries ago to James VI of Scotland and his heirs and successors I can't seem to summon any resentment at Scotland lending our magic stone to England each time we need to reboot with a new king.

England is not having a coronation, so nothing is being lent to England.

What a wonderful thing to be united by the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family.

It’s only a matter of a few years before Australia drops this whole bunch of inbred morons. Meanwhile we have to put up with the image and name of moron-in-chief on official documents and coinage for those few short years.

You should just put William on the money and save time and effort. Charles won't be king for very long. Seems like a waste to change all the currency for a few years.

I’ll be getting ready to shoot at least five bands at a music festival hosted by multiple venues. I might have the TV on as it’s a historic occasion, but I shan’t be following closely and certainly not proclaiming my allegiance.

We do have a constitution, it is just not written as a single document. There is a whole speciality of constitutional law.

Quote:
The United Kingdom constitution is composed of the laws and rules that create the institutions of the state, regulate the relationships between those institutions, or regulate the relationship between the state and the individual.
These laws and rules are not codified in a single, written document.
https://www.parliament.uk/globalasse...nstitution.pdf

I am not sure that having a US style constitution is better than what the UK has, one that can evolve with time and society without continued arguments about what is meant by a well ordered militia.

If I were a Scot I would have more important things to get pissed off about than the whereabouts of a rock. Those "pissed off" Scots need to get a life.

Or maybe this is much more of an issue to you than it is to most Scots.

No, that's why Charles needs the stone: he's going to make it a Horcrux and live for centuries.

Apparently NZ TV is not just covering the event all day, but there are events in NZ to celebrate the passing of the stolen gems to another freeloading git.

I'll be doing something more productive.

Who, or where, or why, or what, is the Stone of Scone? I wasn't sure if that was 'scon' or 'scone' so looked it up. According to wiki it is neither, it is sku'n in a Scottish accent and a clipped 'n'.

I don't mind raising a few half-hearted hurrahs but I draw the line at the oath. 'So help me God'??? I guess that is what makes it an oath but wait, are we supposed to adopt a deep American accent with hand on heart as in US President inauguration on so avowing...hold up - ho-oold up! ... isn't Charlie the one supposed to be swearing allegiance to us. Life of 'service' and all that?

Who believes Jacob - he of the biblical technicoloured coat - ever used the Stone of Scone as a pillow? He'd have had a crick in his neck. Having to bend his head sideways for days unable to straighten it.

As for Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet: I am guessing they will appear in spirit under the canopy, recognising that Charlie is the incarnation of King Solomon himself.

Chuck is a few weeks younger than me, and I plan on another 20 years or so. And he'll have better healthcare, not to mention that both parents were in their late 90's when they passed and his gran was 101.

Pretty much all the Royal family swear by homeopathy, but when something's actually wrong or they get an owie playing polo it's straight to a real doctor at high speed with the police escort on blues & twos.

When I studied English History at University many years ago, my understanding at the time was that the English/UK constitution was peculiar to the ruling royal house, thus the “Tudor Constitution” and the “Stuart Constitution”. I just checked my library and I still have two text books of those names.

So it seems to me that talking about the English/UK Constitution in the context of the US (or Australian) Constitution is like comparing apples to oranges. One is fluid and changes by Royal fiat, the other is set in stone and only changed by the will of the people.

I used best Vintage English cheddar but when I make it again on Friday, I think I'll use a milder tasting one. The big surprise for me was how easily one forgets just how incredibly tasty and textured the humble bean can be. (I used the suggested alternative soya beans [frozen, boil for four minutes].)

I don't think that's going to feed all of us...

Looks better than the picture on the official site!
If anybody would like to make their way to Finland, I'll see what I can do.

I see that wankers some true patriots have already started camping on The Mall in the hope of getting a passing glimpse of Chas and Cammy. Twats.

Hope it's better than "Kerrygold" Irish cheddar I opened yesterday, which was moldy.

The first in the procession to enter Westminster Abbey will be representatives from the Jewish, Sunni and Shiite Muslim, Sikh, Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, Bahai and Zoroastrian communities...

During the service, four peers from the House of Lords — a Muslim, Hindu, Jew and Sikh — will hand to Charles objects of the royal regalia.

I do appreciate the symbolism of having representatives from religions of all the places once subjugated by the British Empire, leading the way in blessing the coronation of the new monarch.
