Ha! I just told myself a joke and I liked it so much I thought I share...

Q: Do you know the difference between the January 6th riotitors and the 1962 Class of Faber University fraternity Delta Tau Chi?

A: The Delta's knew that is was a "really futile and stupid gesture" ahead of time.

It amazes me that anyone would get that close to the toxic blob these days.

I'll take that bet, if there's some way of settling it. Do we know who's been subpoenaed? Can we identify them in a photo of this quality?

This picture is in its high resolution form:

The Independent:

Quote:
The former president was seen in pictures touring the grounds of the Sterling property alongside a number of men including Brad Enie, his director of grounds for the club. It wasn’t immediately clear, but pictures appeared to indicate that Mr Trump was inspecting or giving a tour of his club’s golf course with Trump Organization figures.
Could be. Or this:

Quote:
Even Mr Trump’s former attorney and “fixer”, Michael Cohen, got in on the action.

“Many are asking me why Mr. Mushroom Putter was at his DC Golf Course (which is really in Virginia)? He says to play golf. My sources say he was meeting with 2 lawyers in secrecy and didn’t trust being at their offices. Notice there are no golf clubs on the cart!!!” wrote the ex-attorney.

To be honest, I don't care too much about Cohen's speculation. (ETA: It seems to me, if I wanted to meet with lawyers privately, I wouldn't invite the director of grounds for the club. In fact, if I were meeting with lawyers, I think I'd meet in their offices, since it would take extraordinary evidence to justify bugging the office of an attorney and listening to him meet with his client.)

Meeting with golf course personnel on a golf course isn't really immediately suspicious. Of course, new evidence could change that, but I'll just wait and see.

Apparently at least one more Jan. 6 hearing is coming up. For anyone who wants a refresher, all the previous hearings are on a House website.

Officer Fanone talks about his life after Jan. 6. No job, no pension.
Quote:
Yet, he says, “after my congressional testimony, the criticism from within the [police] department went from quiet whispers to screams and yells.” While recovering, he’d been sidelined in an empty office where his presence couldn’t rile up other cops: “I had no responsibilities. The job itself was to occupy a chair in the cubicle...."

What's astonishing is that he has pretty much been shunned -- and worse -- by his fellow police officers.

Personally, I have no idea why that would be astonishing to me. The police, as a general matter, is waaaay too influenced by the extremist right wing. This isn't even remotely a new thing, either. There's a bunch of reasons for it, of course, but the end result is that it would be more surprising, I think, if a significant percentage of the police didn't treat him badly. It's one of those things that easy to be surprised by if you're used to treating the police as if they were inherently dehumanized upstanding paragons, though, rather than simply people with strong average leans in some directions that provide advantages in some situations and disadvantages in others.

I'm not sure how many broad generalizations you can make about cops. There are something like 18,000 police forces in the U.S. at the federal, state, county, city and local levels, and around a million cops. But in this particular case the people turning their backs were his own friends and colleagues on the same force, and some likely had been at the Capitol with him. They knew him, and they knew the facts, and they knifed him anyway.

This is exactly what happened to Judge Hellmann when his court acquitted Amanda Knox and her co-defendant in the Meredith Kercher case in 2011. He lost a promotion and his fellow judges made his life so miserable that he felt he had no choice but to retire. Shameful.

There is a notable correlation between the likely underlying traits that police have with the likely traits that indicate Trump/extremist RW support. Authoritarianism, for example. Clearest indicator of support for Trump, at last check. Also an excessively frequent trait in police officers, probably increasingly so with experience and superiority.

AS my BIL...an ex-cop...said (I'm paraphrasing), "There are two kinds of police: those that truly want to 'serve and protect' and bullies who get off on power."

I think most police fall in the former group but far too many fall into the latter.

Police work attracts bullies/authoritarians and even criminals. This article by a psychologist who specializes in the criminal mind:

Quote:
First, it is essential to underscore that most police officers are honorable and conscientious in their valiant service to the community. However, decades ago, when the late Dr. Yochelson and I were interviewing career criminals in our study at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C., we discovered that a significant number of them, when they were youngsters, aspired to careers in law enforcement. They reported being attracted by the uniform, the badge, the gun, the fast police cruiser and, most of all, the thrill of pursuing and catching the “bad guys.” It was the excitement and the ability to wield absolute power over other human beings that attracted them as well as the prospect of being cited as heroes for doing so.
Quote:
The point is that some criminals are attracted to what they perceive as “high voltage” occupations. Serving as police officers provides a cover to do as they choose, misusing their positions of authority.
Drew Peterson, who was a cop, is an example of this kind of personality.

The final J6C hearing will be this coming Thursday.

ETA: Ron Johnson, a Trump hemorrhoid, is still spreading lies about J6 proclaiming that the rioters "stayed within the rope line of the Rotunda."

New hearing now underway. First point emphasized is that Trump knew he had lost even as he was claiming he had won, and that the strategy to claim victory no matter what was established and planned long before the election itself.

More damning evidence that Trump pre-planned the election denial well before Nov. 3 and that he knew he had lost when he kept claiming it was stolen from him. Roger Stone and Steve Bannon video shows they both knew the loss denial plan well before the election.

Two POS's lying and supporting another POS.

Sorry, my mistake. I'm not sure they could stop it, though, once it's been issued. As long as Biden is POTUS and they refer Trump's non-compliance to the DOJ I don't see how a GOP House could stop it.

Suppose for the sake of argument that Pence had gone along with Trump's Master Plan; that is, that he had thrown out some states' electoral votes and awarded the White House to Trump. What would have happened next? What could the Congress have done? What could the excluded states have done? Discuss.

I mean nothing. Because it would have been a successful coup. And a lot of Democratic Congresspeople would have been dead.

I'm fairly positive that they could do more than "nothing". I don't know what the actual process would have been but I'm fairly positive they'd have options. What they would be, I don't know because nothing like that had happened before but to say Trump would be installed as POTUS again wouldn't be true, imo.

That was painfully obvious even to an outside observer. He was laying the groundwork for refusing to accept a loss months before the election.

He claimed the election that he won in 2016 had millions of fraudulent votes cast for HRC

He he claims fraud when he wins, of course, he’s going to complain about fraud when he loses.

ALL of them?

Or would you have a proper civil war?

Here's a link to The FPDJT's response letter to the Committee.

Response (pdf)

The opening sentence is jaw-dropping in its immaturity and lack of dignity, like the world has never seen before.
Quote:
The same group of Radical Left Democrats who utilized their Majority position in
Congress to create the fiction of Russia, Russia, Russia, Impeachment Hoax #1,
Impeachment Hoax #2, the $48 Million Mueller Report (which ended in No
Collusion!), Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine, the atrocious and illegal Spying on my
Campaign, and so much more, are the people who created this Committee of
highly partisan political Hacks and Thugs whose sole function is to destroy the
lives of many hard-working American Patriots, whose records in life have been
unblemished until this point of attempted ruination.
