What phoney statistics? The USA has the biggest problem and the most guns in the hands of criminals and others unsuitable to have guns than any other western country.

I am not anti-gun. I am anti-criminals and others unsuitable to have a gun, being able to easily get hold of a gun.

The real issue is that unlike in the UK, the US has little control over who has guns and no prospect of ever getting guns back under control.

Have fun with that.

"Nonsense?" Really? If you imagine nobody buys guns except from a licensed dealer after passing a federal background check in his state of legal residence, there's not much to talk about.

We should all be able to agree that our Founding Fathers gave us the right to keep and bear arms because they knew what happens when only the government has guns, and they were ensuring it never happens here.

I think we can all agree that anyone wandering about anywhere there may be Polar Bears probably needs a rifle or similar. Just in case.

Aaaand, that's it. Beyond that, I'm out of ideas.

No, we don't all agree about who is "us." The original idea was that state militias would take the place of a national army at a time when the states were the primary mechanism of government. The notion that all Americans should be packing heat against an oppressive tyrannical government (that they elected!) is a recent development, spurred largely as a marketing tool by the gun makers. And American democracy is under more direct threat today than in its history since the Civil War, but the gun crowd doesn't seem to be concerned.

I think both sides can agree that gun owners own guns. Other than that,...
