I'd be okay with that. Ardern is a much better PM than Morrison.

Speaking of New Zealand...

Auckland set to break record for longest-ever spell without rain

Quote:
On Saturday the city will mark 40 days with no rain, as total fire ban declared across North Island

New Zealand’s largest city is on the cusp of its longest-ever dry spell, as a total fire ban is declared for the entire North Island, home to millions of people.

According to the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (Niwa), on Saturday, Auckland will mark 40 days of no rain – breaking the previous record from 2013, when no rain fell for 39 days.

A dry day is classified as one in which less than 1mm of rain falls, with records for the Auckland region dating back to 1943.

The conditions have brought water restrictions and drought to many parts of the North Island with animals such as the iconic Kiwi also feeling the strain.

According to Niwa regions in Far Northland are now in “severe drought”, with water tankers having to be brought in to replenish supplies.

We're forecast to get some rain next week, but at the moment it's getting towards the worse I have seen in 30 odd years.

You have my sincere sympathies. Believe me, we know what it's like.

Nope - it misses Aussie on the way to South Island.

I saw that. In my defence, predicting the future is hard.

Look, even Ozians and Kiwis have trouble keeping up with the difference. How can you expect anyone else to be able to.

Another severe storm is forecast for this afternoon. The last hailstorm did an estimated $514 million in damage, mostly to domestic vehicles.

Ten thousand koalas may have died in NSW bushfires, inquiry hears

Quote:
As many as 10,000 koalas — a third of New South Wales' total population — are estimated to have perished this summer from bushfires and drought, an inquiry has heard.

Rappville and Waddell in northern NSW were among the worst-affected areas, with up to 80 per cent of the local koala population killed by bushfires, according to a World Wildlife Fund (WWF) study.

WWF conservation scientist, Dr Stuart Blanch, argued the marsupial should be listed as endangered following the estimated loss of a third of the total NSW koala population.

"What I've heard from people doing the surveys is that we might have lost 10,000 koalas from the fires and the droughts," he told the committee.

"It's brought forward a 2050 extinction projected timeline for most of the populations across the state by years."
