CNN does it again.....

Announced a GOP Town Meeting with Mike Pence June.
After all, went so well the last time.......

God, Chris Licht is an idiot . Lets of the same exact thing in the same exact way and somehow hope for different results.
All it will result in is MSNBC getting even more new viewers.

BTW I suspect Pence is a sloppy second; I think they wanted De Santis but De Santis is simply not making any appreances on mainstream media; he is even not making any appreances outside of news footage with Fox.

Then I would suggest DeSantis is the idiot. It makes sense for a candidate to get as much exposure as they can.

Let’s face it, all the cable channels are garbage. But at least they are watched by elderly voters.

De Santis, for some reason beyond me, had decided not to use the norman news media in his campagin.

IMHO he is DOA. Watch as the GOP leaderhsip scrambles to find a new "Not Trump" candidate.

I fail to see why CNN has been so roundly criticized over the Trump town hall. Conducting such affairs makes perfect sense.

It's not CNN's fault that the leading GOP candidate is a racist, fascist, lying, mysoginist, sexual abusing, dictator-loving, CT foisting, grifting, infantile megalomaniac. It's not their job to filter out viable canidates despite how deplorable they are.

But it was CNN's decision to pack the meeting with Trump supporters, and use a journalist who allowed Trump to walk all over her.
Not to mention they should have invited all the current GOP candidates.
Sorry, not letting CNN off the hook for this. They deserve every bit of criticism they have got.

One problem was that they allowed the Trump supporters in the audience to cheer while insisting that his detractors stay quiet.

Agreed. He is going nowhere. Even if Trump doesn't get the nomination, Pence lost any hope of getting the MAGA crowd on Jan. 6

Trump presents a difficult challenge for any journalist. And I'm not so sure this characterization is accurate.

Its not CNNs job to "filter out candidates".

But, as a news organization, it is CNNs duty to provide accurate facts to its viewers. It was obvious that Trump, being well, Trump, was going to say lots of things that were incorrect, and with such rapid delivery that it would have been impossible to properly fact check all his incorrect statements.

If you must provide airtime to Trump in a "town hall" format, don't do it live, tape it. Allow commentators to dissect any and all of his lies (pausing the "town hall" if necessary.) Or just stick to carrying short segments of his appearances in other venues (again taking the time to properly fact check.)

Disagree.
CNN's job is to make a program that attracts the kind of audiences their advertisers want.
Trump's and Pence's supporters are not really Grade A in this regard.

Well, TECHNICALLY the job of any company is to maximize profit for its shareholders.

But, society treats news organizations differently than (for example) car manufacturers or department stores. We give them "freedom of the press" protections, special access to our leaders, etc., so I don't think we're out of line in expecting their results to be different (i.e. that they should adhere to the idea of accuracy.) And earning a profit/attracting viewers is tied in to the type of accuracy they provide. (i.e. if they are seen as wrong all the time, they may lose viewership and profits.)

If they don't want to provide accurate information, then they shouldn't be calling themselves a "news" organization.

Those heady days of "potatoe" or shouting "Yee Haw!" or wearing a brown suit. When Republicans had actual character or could mime it well enough to pass.

Things that used to ruin politicians:

- Misspelling a root vegetable
- Looking stupid in a tank helmet.
- Being sweaty at a debate.
- Having a weird scream.

Things that don't ruin politicians now.

- Openly attempting a coup.
- Openly making Nazi gestures.
- Being racist.
- Mocking disable people.
- Bragging about sexually assaulting underage girls.

I don't envy the media's balancing act of "Don't give them any attention" and "Don't let who they are and what they are doing be hidden."

That's a fine aphorism and all, but it doesn't tell us whether any of the GOP candidates should be given a platform to either debate or field questions on CNN.

This.
If CNN had done a GOP candidates town meeting, and inviting all the annunced candidates to participates, there would not be a problem. But the basically gave Trump 90 minutes for a rally. That is what the deserved criticism is about.
I agree that the "Ignore Trump" theory that is going around is silly, though.

If CNN are being consistent and have planned this series of town halls at all, the audience will be supportive of the candidates and/or not allowed to boo, like during the Trump one.

Because the Right has totally bought in on the "Everything is a bias, there is no difference between something being wrong and it being unpopular" thing.

Remember when the postmodern "all narratives are equally valid" ******** was supposed to be a left-wing thing?

How difficult is it not to make it a softball event and allow cheering but hush detractors? I don't buy the "This is hard" argument in this case.

CNN is tanking. Democratic politics is boring. Biden is boring. Kamala is boring. Trump gets ratings. Ratings get ad dollars.

Pence is boring, but if he is available and can speak...listen to how many times he is questioned with the word 'trump' in it, and you'll see why they agreed to him. trump is ratings.

Like it or hate it....Do the math.
