His writing smacks of arrogance, ineptitude, utter unwillingness to accept when he's wrong, and a monumental case of the DKs.

Mixed with his brand of authoritarianism, homophobia, macho power fantasies, misogyny, racism and the usual traits of the Trumpists.

Now, lest I be accusing of bragging the thread OT with Kratman he's been engaging in advocating political violence.
Shortly after (in fact during) the Trumpist attempt at insurrection on 06JAN a sub-forum at the 'Baen's Bar' forum run by Baen Books (the publisher of Kratman and other right-wing milscifi authors) was filled with various right-wing fantasies about a new US civil war,

Kratman himself suggested Trump should

I see our favorite (and I say that with all the sarcasm in the world) King of Hypocrisy Sen. Ted Cruz is mocking a military recruiting ad saying it's turning our arming into a "bunch of pansies". The soldier featured in the ad is a woman raised by two mothers. The Stars and Stripes had a different viewpoint:
Quote:
U.S. Army leaders rallied around a soldier featured in a recruitment video clip that Sen. Ted Cruz mocked as representative of an “emasculated military.”

Cruz, a Texas Republican, retweeted a video Thursday that featured Cpl. Emma Malonelord, an air defense system operator stationed in South Korea.

The original video, part of a five-part series called “The Calling,” showed an animated depiction of Malonelord’s life and the reasons why she joined the military.

The Army was “a way to prove my inner strength and maybe shatter some stereotypes along the way,” Malonelord said in the video, adding that by enlisting, “I answered my calling.”

Cruz retweeted a shorter version of the ad that was juxtaposed with a video of Russian service members staring menacingly into the camera.

“Holy crap,” Cruz said on Twitter to his 4.4 million followers. “Perhaps a woke, emasculated military is not the best idea.”

Cruz’s retweet was shared over 14,500 times and the edited video received over 3 million views. Following his viral tweet, Army leaders expressed support for Malonelord and her service.

U.S. Forces Korea commander Gen. Robert Abrams called Malonelord a “superstar by any measure.”

“For what it’s worth, I met this Corporal a few months ago during a routine unit visit,” Abrams tweeted Friday. “Exceptionally sharp, professional, technical expert, highly respected by her peers, superiors and subordinates.”
Quote:
DeFrancisco added that Malonelord “is grateful for the support she has received from leaders across the Army.”

Cruz addressed the controversy in a separate tweet and said “lefty” commentators on Twitter were “dishonestly claiming” he was disparaging the military.

“We have the greatest military on earth, but Dem politicians & woke media are trying to turn them into pansies,” Cruz tweeted.

A spokeswoman for Cruz responded to Stars and Stripes.

“Sen. Cruz passionately supports the brave men and women of the United States military and has repeatedly expressed concerns that Democrat politicians, left wing bureaucrats, and the media are politicizing our armed forces to promote a fringe woke agenda based on identity politics,” Erin Perrine wrote in an emailed statement. “Our military should be focused on winning wars, and we endanger our national security and our servicemembers when they focus on anything else.”
Of course, like Trump, Cruz never served a day in the military yet he thinks he has the right to disparage those who do simply because he doesn't like their sexuality or even, in this case, the sexuality of a soldier's parents. Indeed, to know Cruz is to loathe him.

It's a good sign that our society has entered the "cultural degeneracy is making us weak in front of our enemies" stage, right? Nothing bad has ever happened because of such things.

Nothing to see here, just a fascist vanguard group attempting to take over a local GOP political apparatus.

Quote:
The Clark County Republican Party’s central committee has canceled a scheduled Tuesday meeting because of security concerns, officials announced at a news conference Monday.

The cancelation follows a Review-Journal report that a group affiliated with the Proud Boys was attempting to elect a slate of leaders to the county party and had threatened several prominent Republicans.

tbh there's a non-trivial risk that they fail in their attempt on the grounds that local party activists think that their views are a bit wishy-washy.

Historian compares Capitol insurrection to Hitler's beer hall putsch and the following years, during which Nazis learned to take power legally.

Thanks for this article. As a former history teacher, I have also seen so many comparisons to the rise of Hitler and what is happening here now but I've been loathe to bring it up. The very mention of Hitler brings out accusations of "Godwin's law" in an attempt to discredit whatever argument may be being made. However, in the case of Trumpism and the Republicans today, I think it is extremely relevant. One only has to look at how the Nazis took over the German government and see what is going on in Congress today by the GOP leadership and Congress members and what they've done to Liz Cheney and those who spoken out against Trump and/or the Jan. 6 truth and how they've embraced the likes of Hawley, Greene, Cruz, et al to see the correlation. It's happening before our very eyes.

Bob001, I think this article deserves an entire thread discussion of its own. Would you please start one? If not, I'd like to.

There was a high profile Qanon convention in Dallas recently, featuring, among others, General Flynn and Sidney Powell.

In light of the electoral failure of the modern American fascist project, calls for violent overthrow of the state have become increasingly overt. Flynn made headlines by speaking favorably about the idea of a military coup in the US.

What is most striking about this event is that it is not really a fringe meetup. Comparing this Q conference to those even a couple years ago show much more mainstream support.

Several members of the Texas GOP machine were in attendance, as well as Rep. Gosar.

Qanon seems to me to be the esoteric, pseudo-mystical wing of the fascist movement, which is so commonly seen in historical examples of fascism. It's practically a religion into itself, with deified figures and claims of forbidden knowledge.

The GOP is increasingly and more openly embracing this brand of esotericism and fascism. The rhetoric on this group is overtly beligerrent and stresses the importance of a minoritarian segment of "patriotic" Americans to assert authority.

It's really fascinating to see how the party has progressed since the Southern Strategy in the 60s. There seems to be waves of increasingly more extreme "wings" of the party that eventually take it over. Last time it was the Tea Party, and now it's the much more dangerous and insane QAnon.

Tucker Carlson publicly said that white Republican men are white supremacists, although that isn't what he intended.

What President Biden said:
"Terrorism from white supremacy is the most lethal threat to the homeland today -- not ISIS, not al-Qaida, white supremacists."

What Tucker Carlson said:
"It’s always the same people, those white Republican men. The very ones that, just today, Joe Biden warned us are more dangerous than Isis."

No, I think it was completely deliberate. Carlson intentionally and repeatedly makes the connection between Republican, White and Good. This is no mistake.

Reporters are claiming that Trump believes he will be reinstated as the real president before August.

Seems like a great way to repeat the fascist violence of Jan6. Promise to the unhinged base that right wing power is in fact going to reign supreme, then watch as chaotic violence breaks out when nothing happens at the pivotal moment.

Trump and his sycophants are going to keep baiting his extremist base into acts of violence.

Quote:
Trump has been telling a number of people he’s in contact with that he expects he will get reinstated by August (no that isn’t how it works but simply sharing the information).

It isn’t happening in a vacuum. It is happening as he faced the possibility of an indictment from the Manhattan DA.

But he is not putting out statements about the “audits” in states just for the sake of it. He’s been laser focused on them, according to several people who’ve spoken with him (as well as WaPo reporting a few weeks ago).
https://twitter.com/maggieNYT/status...07794375426051

These "audits" are eventually going to wrap up and release completely unsupported, sweeping claims of election fraud and then... nothing is going to happen. The right wing media will continue to repeat the lie that the election was stolen but there will be no recourse for what the extreme right will sincerely believe is an injustice. Violence is the inevitable response.

Which is why FB has announced that Trump is suspended from it and Instagram until at least Jan. 2023. That gets up past the 2022 elections. At that time, they will reassess his suspension. I expect them to keep the suspension for another two years (Jan 2025) to get past the 2024 elections because we all know Trump is not going to stop his insane and incendiary rhetoric. He can't.

So I wonder what FL is planning on doing about FB deplatforming Trump?

Quote:
May 24, 2021
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a first-in-the-nation bill that can penalise tech companies for deplatforming politicians.

The legislation states that platforms can only suspend accounts for 14 days, and will be fined as much as $250,000 (£176,000) per day for violations.

Steve Bannon had pretty much the same idea as your article says:

Quote:
Bannon laid out the same plan in mid-February during remarks he made for Boston Republicans. "He'll come back to us. We'll have a sweeping victory in 2022, and he'll lead us in 2024," the former Trump administration official said at the time.

"We totally get rid of Nancy Pelosi, and the first act of President Trump as Speaker will be to impeach Joe Biden for his illegitimate activities of stealing the presidency," Bannon said.
These guys are NUTS. I've never seen people idolize someone so obviously nuts and authoritarian and so willing to give up their democracy since well.....see my The Rise of Hitler and The Age of Trump thread.

Impeaching Biden, even if Trump was Speaker of the House (*shudder*), would not make the Kremlin Gremlin President.
Only a "2nd Amendment Solution" to both Joe and Kamela would.

But not even the GOP is stupid enough to put Trump into an actual position of Power in Congress - because of his ineptitude, Dems would run circles around him.

Wasn't sure where to put this:

Rudy Giuliani did a MyPillow commercial:

Quote:
“I’ve been sleeping on MyPillows for some time,” Giuliani said on his “Common Sense” show, posted Thursday. “I love them. They’re simply the very best pillows ever made. But I just found out they also have a wide assortment of other incredible products. Like their mattress toppers, sheets, towels and slippers! And more!”

Rudy will do anything for money. If anyone thinks he sleeps on a Motel 6 quality pillow (which is what My Pillow is), they're as dumb as a Trumper...

Good call having him pitch your crap pillows, Lindell! You know your market.

Rudy does have a sense of humor:

Rudy Giuliani: "President Trump is an honest man, and he’s done nothing wrong."

It's really weird how this incompetent imbecile managed to get such a cult following. Can't they find a decent person who at least looks like a good Christian to follow?

Problem is, a decent person cannot fill the bill. If the definition of "decent" I learned prior to upside-down world got established still holds.

Exactly. A party that overwhelmingly supports the cretin that is Trump couldn't possibly support a "decent Christian" because they are diametrically opposed beings It would be like asking why the party that nominated and people that elected Barack Obama and Joe Biden couldn't find a nice KKK member to follow.

Well, to be fair there were democrats that were suggesting something similar with Hillary, having her run in 2018, be made Speaker of the House, and then impeaching both Trump and Pence to put her into the Presidency.

The difference is that those suggesting it were on the fringes and it was never taken seriously by anyone of note in the Democrat Party, especially Hillary herself who pretty much went for a walk in the forest and vanished for 6+ months after the election.
