I really doubt that Tom Kratman (Space Marine!) was ever popular. Or indeed is.
His writing smacks of arrogance, ineptitude, utter unwillingness to accept when he's wrong, and a monumental case of the DKs. Mixed with his brand of authoritarianism, homophobia, macho power fantasies, misogyny, racism and the usual traits of the Trumpists. Now, lest I be accusing of bragging the thread OT with Kratman he's been engaging in advocating political violence. Shortly after (in fact during) the Trumpist attempt at insurrection on 06JAN a sub-forum at the 'Baen's Bar' forum run by Baen Books (the publisher of Kratman and other right-wing milscifi authors) was filled with various right-wing fantasies about a new US civil war, A writer named Jason Sandford write a piece exposing the Bar's hosting of various attempts to incite violence, and was naturally attacked by the rightists Kratman himself suggested Trump should

I see our favorite (and I say that with all the sarcasm in the world) King of Hypocrisy Sen. Ted Cruz is mocking a military recruiting ad saying it's turning our arming into a "bunch of pansies". The soldier featured in the ad is a woman raised by two mothers. The Stars and Stripes had a different viewpoint:

It's a good sign that our society has entered the "cultural degeneracy is making us weak in front of our enemies" stage, right? Nothing bad has ever happened because of such things.

Nothing to see here, just a fascist vanguard group attempting to take over a local GOP political apparatus.

Historian compares Capitol insurrection to Hitler's beer hall putsch and the following years, during which Nazis learned to take power legally.

Thanks for this article. As a former history teacher, I have also seen so many comparisons to the rise of Hitler and what is happening here now but I've been loathe to bring it up. The very mention of Hitler brings out accusations of "Godwin's law" in an attempt to discredit whatever argument may be being made. However, in the case of Trumpism and the Republicans today, I think it is extremely relevant. One only has to look at how the Nazis took over the German government and see what is going on in Congress today by the GOP leadership and Congress members and what they've done to Liz Cheney and those who spoken out against Trump and/or the Jan. 6 truth and how they've embraced the likes of Hawley, Greene, Cruz, et al to see the correlation. It's happening before our very eyes.
Bob001, I think this article deserves an entire thread discussion of its own. Would you please start one? If not, I'd like to. |

There was a high profile Qanon convention in Dallas recently, featuring, among others, General Flynn and Sidney Powell.
In light of the electoral failure of the modern American fascist project, calls for violent overthrow of the state have become increasingly overt. Flynn made headlines by speaking favorably about the idea of a military coup in the US. What is most striking about this event is that it is not really a fringe meetup. Comparing this Q conference to those even a couple years ago show much more mainstream support. Several members of the Texas GOP machine were in attendance, as well as Rep. Gosar. Qanon seems to me to be the esoteric, pseudo-mystical wing of the fascist movement, which is so commonly seen in historical examples of fascism. It's practically a religion into itself, with deified figures and claims of forbidden knowledge. The GOP is increasingly and more openly embracing this brand of esotericism and fascism. The rhetoric on this group is overtly beligerrent and stresses the importance of a minoritarian segment of "patriotic" Americans to assert authority. |

It's really fascinating to see how the party has progressed since the Southern Strategy in the 60s. There seems to be waves of increasingly more extreme "wings" of the party that eventually take it over. Last time it was the Tea Party, and now it's the much more dangerous and insane QAnon.

Tucker Carlson publicly said that white Republican men are white supremacists, although that isn't what he intended.
What President Biden said: "Terrorism from white supremacy is the most lethal threat to the homeland today -- not ISIS, not al-Qaida, white supremacists." What Tucker Carlson said: "It’s always the same people, those white Republican men. The very ones that, just today, Joe Biden warned us are more dangerous than Isis." |

Reporters are claiming that Trump believes he will be reinstated as the real president before August.
Seems like a great way to repeat the fascist violence of Jan6. Promise to the unhinged base that right wing power is in fact going to reign supreme, then watch as chaotic violence breaks out when nothing happens at the pivotal moment. Trump and his sycophants are going to keep baiting his extremist base into acts of violence.
Quote:
These "audits" are eventually going to wrap up and release completely unsupported, sweeping claims of election fraud and then... nothing is going to happen. The right wing media will continue to repeat the lie that the election was stolen but there will be no recourse for what the extreme right will sincerely believe is an injustice. Violence is the inevitable response. |

Which is why FB has announced that Trump is suspended from it and Instagram until at least Jan. 2023. That gets up past the 2022 elections. At that time, they will reassess his suspension. I expect them to keep the suspension for another two years (Jan 2025) to get past the 2024 elections because we all know Trump is not going to stop his insane and incendiary rhetoric. He can't.

Impeaching Biden, even if Trump was Speaker of the House (*shudder*), would not make the Kremlin Gremlin President.
Only a "2nd Amendment Solution" to both Joe and Kamela would. But not even the GOP is stupid enough to put Trump into an actual position of Power in Congress - because of his ineptitude, Dems would run circles around him. |

Exactly. A party that overwhelmingly supports the cretin that is Trump couldn't possibly support a "decent Christian" because they are diametrically opposed beings It would be like asking why the party that nominated and people that elected Barack Obama and Joe Biden couldn't find a nice KKK member to follow.

Well, to be fair there were democrats that were suggesting something similar with Hillary, having her run in 2018, be made Speaker of the House, and then impeaching both Trump and Pence to put her into the Presidency.
The difference is that those suggesting it were on the fringes and it was never taken seriously by anyone of note in the Democrat Party, especially Hillary herself who pretty much went for a walk in the forest and vanished for 6+ months after the election. |
