Not sure if this is a slam poetry recounting of the immaculate conception, or a first draft from Warren Zevon.

MTG has been bloviating about making a run for governor. Looks like she's got some competition.

This is not a new development. Certainly for as long as I've heard gun-nutters nuttering, it's commonly been focused around the idea that guns are a constitutional right because people need to have the means to violently revoke democracy in the US if the democratic process results in laws they personally don't like.

Exactly. The only way a rabble ousts a Superpower is if that Superpower's military goes over to the rabble. When the 2A was ratified, the US was hardly a Superpower--by the standards of the time. Today's gun stroker is content with any fiction that allows him to keep his Precious. Which is why he will gloss over the object of the 2A, the "well regulated militia" (of muzzle loaders) and skip straight to the "shall not be infringed" conclusion.

For some time now I've been perturbed and fascinated by the peculiarly obscene flavor of American Christianity, which might as well be called "The Church of the Guns of God Send Money". Ghandi was so very right in liking the Christ but not the Christians. But these "Christians" are edging close to inversion. Like, Mirror Universe level.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Seems like more of a stop-gap to ensure that the State is protected by willing volunteers until such time as an army can be established after negotiating the requirements of the federalism.

Whilst mockery may be fun, the problem is that these people keep getting elected. In some cases it may be because they simply represent the correct party but it's becoming clear to me that their values are shared by a majority of Republicans and Republican-voting independents.

Fair point. I never thought I'd see the day that Georgia would elect 2 democratic US senators (and I've worked on some of the number-crunching internal polling), and was mildly ridiculed for that belief.

A new democratic governor, maybe not but at least it should be close.

Guns because we have the right to protect ourselves from tyranny.

This is not a new development? From someone running for governor of a state with 10 million residents? To make it a linchpin of their candidacy? This at a time when people consider a mandate for school kids to wear face masks in the classroom an act of tyranny.

Yeah I'm guessing she won't get very far, more of a primary fight between Kemp and Perdue. But we'll see, I've learned to not get used to conventional wisdom these days.

I saw video the other night of a woman at a school board meeting literally screaming at the board members -- it was a budget hearing -- how about family budgets? To treat the long term damage their kids will suffer from having had to wear face masks in the classroom. Other attendees were cheering her on.

They became so unruly they finally had to be escorted out by police. Fortunately, none of them were prepared to exercise their second amendment rights, though I'm sure most believed the school board was acting 'tyrannically.'

The "security of a free state" language was manufactured by the people who drafted the amendment itself.

True. However, it doesn't really work to use events that occurred over 300 years ago when the US had been in existence for a handful of years and had no real standing army but relied on state militias. Times change.

Just to nitpick, it was 1794, so it was 228 years ago.
