Disney can afford it. If they cover the additional costs by raising their prices it probably won't hurt their custom all that much. And they've got the bankroll to do it very slowly so it isn't as noticeable.

Thing is, they aren't the only ones in the district, and everyone else may not have the same advantages.

It is likely that most of the ones to feel the pain will be people and businesses other than Disney. DeSantis constituents, IOW.

Not that he would care about that.

I know you know there's a little more to "socialism" than just production. There is also distribution and exchange, and arguably mutual defence.

From Simple Wikipedia, examples relevant to RCID and DeSantis:
Quote:
What is socialism examples?
Public infrastructure—bridges, roads, electricity, water and sewer systems, and other government infrastructure—is considered socialist. It is usually owned and operated by the government and paid for by a mix of taxation and user fees.

In reality, polygraphs are not reliable. Neither is 'body language analysis".

Yes, I know and agree.

But I will be unsurprised if Thomas finds some way to weasel out of that if a case comes before him which requires a more 'conservative' viewpoint.

NO idea where to put this, soo here it is. The 'Don't Say Period' bill passed into Legislation, because only 6th graders and older have periods?

My sister was in 4th (10 years old) grade when she got her first period.

These bills reflect the Victorian mindset of these right-wingers. Fascinated and obsessed with sex but scared crapless by it at the same time.

I would love to see some kind of malicious compliance on a law like that. Imagine a girl gets her period in 4th or 5th grade, expresses concern, as is likely, and the teacher announces (as one must presume they can) "I'm sorry, but state law forbids me to tell you what is happening" and then calls the office of the local congressman demanding that they explain it, since she is forbidden.

"Maybe we'll build a competing theme park next to Disney World. Or a prison."

Quote:
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday threatened to build a prison or a competing theme park near the Magic Kingdom or raise taxes on Walt Disney World to retaliate against the company for resisting a state takeover of its special taxing district.
Quote:
“Come to think of it now, people are like, ‘well, what should we do with this land?’” DeSantis said. “Maybe create a state park. Maybe try to do more amusement parks. Someone even said like, maybe you need another state prison. I mean, who knows? I mean, I just think that the possibilities are endless.”

Yeah, uh, Ronnie? I don't think the corrupt toadies and patronage employees you put in place could build an outhouse, let alone a competing theme park.

So, Florida is such a crime infested hell hole during Meatball Ron's tenure that they need another prison?

Wait... you don't think the guy who promoted, signed into law, and bragged about the "Don't say gay" bill, then publicly threw a hissy fit about "woke" Disney for (tepidly) supporting LGBTQ+ rights, cares about gay people or Disney supporting them? How in the world did you twist the facts to fit into that bizarre take?

Of course he cares. Like most contemporary Republicans and their voters, he is a thin skinned wannabe tough guy who is scared to death of "looking weak" in public, so he needs to make a lot of performative gestures to demonstrate he is a manly man.

Seems like even republican donors are starting to rethink supporting Meatball Ron. (Although I suspect that their complaints are more about his electability rather than complaints about his actual policies. i.e. "Why are you saying the quiet parts out loud?")

From: Rolling Stone
On a group chat of wealthy DeSantis donors...participants exploded with alarm last week over the Florida governor’s presidential prospects... "What... is wrong with RD?" one participant wrote after DeSantis did not curtail his out-of-state publicity tour to return home amid massive flooding in the Fort Lauderdale area...Several other top donors to DeSantis were livid about the governor referring to the brutal Russian invasion of Ukraine as a "territorial dispute,"...Billionaire financier Thomas Peterffy told the Financial Times this past weekend that he and "a bunch of friends" were putting spending for the Florida governor on hold "because of his stance on abortion and book banning."

Remember how the republicans were complaining about Biden not going to visit the site of a train derailment? Good times, good times. Meatball Ron should have gone to Fort Lauderdale when they had the flooding, and tossed them some paper towels. (Seems like a very republican thing to do.)

Because you don't actually understand the bill, or the motivation behind it.

Yeah, I was fooled by the statements of the authors of the bill, the wording of the bill, the statements of the Gov who signed the bill into law, and the effects the bill has had since it was passed into law.

What I should have believed was Zig's bizarre up is down defense of the bill instead!

If Desantis is trolling it’s a pretty pathetic way to cover the fact that Disney gave a legal ********** in front of everyone.

Build A prison next of Disney, you also build it next to Universal Studios, and every other major attraction in Orlando.
De Santis is just plain studpid, and getting desperate. He has picked a fight he cannot win.

I think they are just realising De Santis is an idiot.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday threatened to build a prison or a competing theme park near the Magic Kingdom or raise taxes on Walt Disney World to retaliate against the company for resisting a state takeover of its special taxing district.

Ronnie is sounding more and more like Donnie. What next? Ronnie claiming he knows more about building amusement parks and prisons than anyone else? That he can build them like no one has ever seen before?

"What a tool" is correct.
