I just saw the clip of the deposition recording again, and I'm struck by the emotional flatness of Trump's facial expressions. It makes me think of Quint's line from Jaws about a shark having lifeless eyes, "like a dolls eyes". It also reminded me of something I read years ago about narcissists learning to imitate many facial expressions, and all the times Trump has made ridiculous, cartoonish facial expressions, like some alien attempting to imitate human emotions. I think the emptiness seen in that deposition is a view of the real Trump, and there's just nothing there.

Except when he's animating certain answers and speaks the same way he does in his rallies and news interviews. Those specific answers stand out from the droll and are clearly spoken in the same pattern he uses over and over.

I've noticed this about him before. He uses the same stock phrases which we've long recognized and mocked and the same patterns. He uses short, simple sentences and then repeats them like this:

"I didn't wait long. I didn't wait long. I didn't wait long. I wanted to make sure, unlike most politicians, that what I said was correct.

He uses the same few modifiers: very, tremendous, fantastic, great, and terrific to describe positives and bad, horrible, lousy, and awful to describe negatives.

Trump always speaks in a casual, conversational, simple manner...almost as if he's talking to children. I think this is one reason his beloved () 'undereducated' supporters relate to him. They can understand him.

It used to be just "Russia, Russia, Russia!" Now it's "Russia, Russia, Russia! Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine!" Once a phrase is in his lexicon, he will never, ever let go of it.

Also, “Like nobody’s ever seen before” or “Unlike anything the world’s ever seen”. Similarly, “I know more about x than anyone”.

I assume he was taught these, by Roy Cohn or Roger Stone, though I’m not sure they achieve the ends he thinks they do.

Also, projecting his own ignorance, like in “Not many people know Lincoln was a Republican” or “Nobody knew health care could be so complicated”. Overall, a very limited repertoire of stupid catch phrases - but maybe they work to some extent?

Just consider the intended audience of like minded people. The lower intelligence segment of the American population.

That is possibly a thing his lawyers have told him to do. There are people who are good at analyzing facial expressions for truthfulness and lying - and prosecutors use them. One of the ways to defeat facial expression analysis, or at least to make yourself very hard to read, is to maintain a flat, expressionless demeanor - e.g. acting as if you don't care or are disinterested in whatever is happening, not responding emotionally to provocative questions. There are other aspects to this, but The Fat Orange Turd isn't smart enough to understand those.

Wow! That sounds like it could have been ripped right from a Law & Order script. I can hear Sam Waterston's character Jack McCoy saying this to a defendant's two-bit lawyer.

No, there are people who claim they can analyze facial expressions for deceit or not. It's a pseudoscience promoted by self-proclaimed "body language experts" on the internet who make a living selling their books and courses or gullible people. Studies do not support that facial expressions can be interpreted for deceit reliably or consistently. It's one of those common myths.

[sidetrack] There is a whole thread on this and while the body language interpretation can often be a fail, there are micro-facial expressions that can reveal lying. It can still be gotten around by good actors of course. But there is more science to it than just reading body language. [/sidetrack ... anything else will need to hunt down that thread. I'm not going to debate anyone here about it]

Or it’s as simple as: he can’t/won’t under any circumstances admit he’s wrong, so the error has to have a different reason. No matter how idiotic.

Totally disagree from the research I've done. But, as you said, it's a sidetrack so I won't discuss it further here, either.

Easier explanation that does not require this debate at all: Trump lies ALL the time, even when he doesn't have to. So his facial or other expressions are irrelevant.

What I have found from observing the face of T**** (nasty business, but I took that one for the team) is:

1) He has a fairly smooth face for his age.

2) In general he shows very little facial expressions.

3) When he does show expressions, talking to a crowd, etc., they are exaggerated, almost farcical.

My suggestion is that he on Botox. His face is normally a mask, and when he tries to make an impression, he has to overdo it, fake it (like everything else).

Botox is quite possible with his narcissism. His use of fake tan in such an obvious (and poorly applied) way is evidence of his vanity.

To nobody's surprise, Trump will not be testifying in the new York civil trial over the Carroll case involving sexual assault.

Trump's lawyers said he would not testify, but during a trip overseas Trump claimed he would "probably" return to new York for the trial. But the judge had given him a deadline of Sunday to officially indicate that he would testify. That deadline has now passed, with no word from Trump

Seen the movie several times, though it’s a hard watch. I did not pick up on the reference, however.

Natasha Stoynoff is the reporter who interviewed Trump in 2005 who says he forcibly stuck his tongue down her throat while Melania was upstairs changing.

Quote:
“Now, I’m a tall, strapping girl who grew up wrestling two giant brothers. I even once sparred with Mike Tyson. It takes a lot to push me,” Ms Stoynoff wrote in 2016. “But Trump is much bigger – a looming figure – and he was fast, taking me by surprise and throwing me off balance. I was stunned. And I was grateful when Trump’s longtime butler burst into the room a minute later, as I tried to unpin myself.”

“The butler informed us that Melania would be down momentarily, and it was time to resume the interview,” she added.

Mr Trump then asked, “You know we’re going to have an affair, don’t you?” according to the reporter, adding that the following morning, she went to the spa at the private club, where the receptionist told her Mr Trump had been waiting for her, but that he had left to attend a meeting.
Quote:
Ms Stoynoff noted that Melania Trump was “upstairs changing. Nothing led me to think he would do such a thing,” she said of Mr Trump’s alleged actions.

“I remember it being a dark room,” she said of where the incident took place. “But there are windows, so not too dark. We go in. I’m looking around, wondering what he wants to show me. I hear the door close. I turn around. And he’s right at me, pushing me against the wall.”
Pushing a woman up against the wall seems to be a pattern for Trump. What a loathsome pig.

He certainly hasn't got the social skills to treat a woman kindly. He learned this from his dad, too.

Mary Trump describes Fred Trump as a “high-functioning sociopath” and details his bullying, antisemitism, racism, sexism and xenophobia – all traits the president is regularly accused of.
