Conservative outlet Newsmax dropped from DirecTV's channel lineup despite GOP pleas

DirecTV dropped conservative news outlet Newsmax from its channel lineup Wednesday despite pleas from House Republicans who said the action would affect their ability to reach constituents.

The television provider said the decision came down to Newsmax asking for rate increases, which "would have led to significantly higher costs that we would have to pass on to our broad customer base," the Daily Beast's Justin Baragona reported.

Baragona shared that the message on the DirecTV channel Newsmax occupied just yesterday read, "DIRECTV STREAM customers can continue to watch Newsmax programming for free by downloading the app via your device's app store," with a link included to access more information.

Freshman Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) said this week that the TV provider's inability to come to an agreement with Newsmax over cable fees signaled "a political decision to censor conservative media, which is a red flag for the First Amendment."

Newsmax, of course, can be viewed free in many other ways, but the people who watch it on DirecTV are probably too stupid to know how:

Technically they weren't paying Newsmax anything. They basically just allowed Newsmax to exist on DirecTV without paying anything, but the reason they got canceled is because they told DirecTV to pay them and DirecTV told them to eat a fat bag of dicks.

It's not like DirecTV is some sort of hero in all of this, or that they even have an issue with right-wing politics. They've already given another right-wing TV channel the same deal Newsmax had, in fact they're going to have the same channel number in the DirecTV menu. If that weren't enough, Bill O'Reilly is the new channels prime time slot. DirecTV is trash, and I'm glad I will never give them another penny as long as I live.
