Doctor found to be making misleading claims

SA doctor's claims he could 'heal' migraines and Alzheimer's disease using lasers were misleading

Quote:
A South Australian doctor has admitted his claims that "migraine is no longer a mystery" and he could heal conditions like Alzheimer's disease and chronic fatigue using laser therapy were misleading and false advertising, court documents have revealed.

In his written response to professional misconduct allegations from the Medical Board of Australia, Dr Mark Rogers said his claims about low-level laser therapy (LLLT) were based on his "opinion" and "belief" rather than "hard scientific evidence".

Court documents — released by the SA Health Practitioners Tribunal this week — said Dr Rogers promoted LLLT on his website, saying he was "using focused medical technologies to diagnose and heal".

This is, of course, a country whose president and health minister were AIDS denialists.
Here in the USA, we just get Doctor Oz....

South Australia has defected to South Africa? Why didn't I get the memo?

It's a reasonable mistake. Just like WA. We instinctively interpret those two letters as meaning Western Australia, whereas Americans instinctively interpret them to mean Washington.

It's an Australian media outlet so it uses the common Australian abbreviation. It's easy enough for a non-Australian to misinterpret it. Except that the word "Australia" is used several times in the quoted excerpt...

Right, but none of those also refer to an Australian state, the way WA and SA do.

Except that the very first words in your quote in the OP were:

"A South Australian doctor"

Kind of hard to miss.

Yeah, I mentioned that. Why are we talking about this and not about medical fraud?

Sorry for the derail

[jk] What?!? The Aussies have not yet made New Caledonia (NC) the seventh eighth ninth state yet? [/jk]

Yeah Malta and North Macedonia are pretty obscure, and the Indian and Mexican abbreviations likely not much used outside India and Mexico.

But there is a sorta, very indirect connection with GA ... it’s home to a generics drug maker that’s been in the news lately, for not-so-good reasons (no, nothing to do with vaccines).

Back to your regular schedule ... is LLLT a real medical thing? Or is it kin to the vast majority of “stem cell therapies”?

Quackwatch:

At this writing, the bottom line appears to be that LLLT devices may bring about temporary relief of some types of pain, but there's no reason to believe that they will influence the course of any ailment or are more effective than standard forms of heat delivery.
