Girl Power - Finland's New Parliament

SDP former deputy to the now-resigned Antti Rinne, who was the Prime Minister up to last week, Sanna Marin, has now been sworn in as Finland's new Prime Minister. PM Marin heads a five party coalition government, with a strong SDP, Centre, Green and Left Alliance presence, plus a Swedish People's Party Justice Minister.

Aged 34, she is the youngest sitting Prime Minister in the world. In addition, she leads a cabinet of twelve women and seven men.

Quote:
“It is my great pleasure to congratulate the new Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin. Finland has truly taken the gender issues to the next level: all coalition parties are now led by women!” tweeted new European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen.

Twelve ministers in the new cabinet are women and just seven are men. The head of the Center Party, Katri Kulmuni, 32, becomes finance minister, Green Party leader Maria Ohisalo, 34, continues as interior minister and the Left Alliance’s chairwoman Li Andersson, 32, remains education minister.

Several of the female ministers are also in their early thirties.

She is not only the youngest, but the prettiest. Pure Hollywood casting in that regard.

Me thinks a certain Ardern may not be amused.

Younger, hotter and probably more touchy feely social politics wise.

Lots of comments in the US that Marin looks like Ally McBeal; she does resemble Callista Flockheart quite a bit.

Yes, she does a bit.

Interesting how many women in positions of power are brunettes (compared to celebrities).

Though some choose to dye their hair, or wear a wig, perhaps because they believe blondes are more electable.

Fascinating. Women in power still being judged by their appearance. And 2020 is days away.
Rather pathetic how some people still can't deal with women.

For only society can give or concede it to them; they themselves cannot take it, or give it to themselves.

Because women don't judge men by their appearance, right? Gotta keep up with the female victimhood narrative, don't we.

Justin Trudeau and 9 other hot politicians according to the Irish Times

If we judge them by their power, we find that they're just as vicious, corrupt, and incompetent as their male counterparts.

It's not like women have some magical sensibility that makes them better people than men. But some of them (like some men) are indeed attractive. So at least we can appreciate that, even if they are politicians.

I don't think the citation is very useful. Others can judge how much of a difference there is, but a difference certainly is possible. For one thing, the presence of a poll does not make the contents of the poll relevant to all the electorate of every country involved. Second, the fact that ten poilticians in the world are deemed sexy by some ought not, one would have thought obviously, to mean that they are the only men in power. Third, even if it is true that some women use their attractiveness as a political asset does not mean much about those who either do not or can not.

The existence of a list of hot politicians is, in short, ridiculously irrelevant to the question of whether the opportunities of unattractive women to obtain political power are equal to those of unattractive men.

e.t.a. I would also have thought, actually looking at the list, that the ironic and jocular nature of the list would be pretty evident, containing as it does Donald Trump (complete with fantasy fiction depicting him as a spider) and Kim Jung Un!

The problem is so ingrained into our culture, language and worldview that most cannot see this. We must be skeptical of all the norms we have been indoctrinated into. A case where the term woke might be used unironically and non pejoratively.

And 30 yo is not a girl.

You might criticise this view but there are still plenty living in a backward world. Interior Minister, Mart Halme of Estonia is reported as calling Marin a shop assistant and her being made prime minister a case of 'the reds taking revenge on the whites' in a reference to Finland's civil war 1918.

Quote:
“I would recall [Soviet leader] Vladimir Ulyanov Lenin saying that every kitchen maid could become a minister — or how he said. So now we see how a cashier has become a prime minister and how some other street activists and uneducated people have also become members of the government,” Helme said, according to reports in the Estonian media.

Marin holds a master’s degree from the University of Tampere, and supported herself while studying by working as a cashier and in a bakery.

The Estonian minister went on to refer back to the Finnish civil war of 1918, accusing the “Reds” of taking revenge on “Whites”.

The ‘Reds’ … have now come to power and are now desperately trying to liquidate the Finnish state; turn Finland into some sort of ‘europrovince’,” he said.

FIFY

Antti Rinne was forced to resign because his coalition partners in the Centre Party claimed he and Sirpa Paatero had 'lied' about the date the separation and lower pay of the 700 parcel sorters was effected in negotiation with the state-owned Post Office and the PAU trade union. It had 'no confidence' in him so poor old Antti had to step down, which is a shame as he was excellent in his position. He has now been appointed SDP leader.

The four-week postal strike was embarrassing for me as I did not get the documents I needed to submit a VAT return in time.

So It's wrong with saying you find a women in a leadership position to be attractive?
Good luck with changing human nature, pal.
