Could she point to the USofA on a globe? Probably not. Likely a flat earther, anyhow.

If MTG had been alive in 1938, she'd have believed that all Adolf wanted was Austria and the Sudetenland and had no designs on the rest of Europe. She'd have still believed it even after he invaded Poland because she wouldn't have known where Poland was. Oh, hell...or what Poland was.

I agree that the failure to secure the rights of Blacks n the South was a disaster for the US, but it was not Grant and Sheridan's ' job to do that at least as far being generals go. Now when Grant was elected President, then it did become his job.
And I would like Gulliver to explain exactly what he would have replaced the constituion with. Probably a overwhelming powerfu central govenrment which would have reduced the states of administrative conviences, something which would not sell even today.

Why would she have been concerned about a country in Africa?

Yea they would have abolished slavery sometime in the next 40-50 years. Keep in mind a triumphant south means no lost cause lies and slavery being the literal cornerstone of their nation. It strikes me that changing the confederates constitution to permit the abolition of slavery would be a bigger bar than people realize.

You would have at least a generation more slavery.

.... why should Americans give all that much concern as to where poles are made?! We should make them here!

Given that the passed but not enacted confederate constitution specifically stated that no law, amendment or other change to the constitution could outlaw slavery, then I'd say it would only have happened with societal collapse.

Money has more influence than anything else. With the rise of the Industrial Revolution, slavery would have become financially unsupportable. Companies replace workers with automation because it's financially to their benefit.

There will always be a desirable use for disposable people if it's allowed.

Why is slavery so incompatible with industrialization?

While Nazi Germany used slave workers for weapons production with some efficiency it dose require a lot of guards and constant threats of violence, which is not really productive for peace-time industry.

Another, and more important thing: Civilian industry needs customers for its products. If you just have a slave-owning elite to supply, you don't need much industry. Thus, the working class must be able to buy your products, and this means you have to employ them, rather than own them.

As slavery really has nothing to do with MTG, I don't want to derail the thread, which according to some, I'm rather prolific at doing.

Hans

North Korea is using slave labor to pay for the luxury consumption of their Dear Leader, so that works, too, economically.

MTG scored a victory in forcing MaCarthy to remove Ukrainian funding form the Ominbus spending bill, and bring it up in stand alone vote. And McCarthy is getting hell over this.
IMHO the funding will still pass, but McCarthy has empowered Greene even more.
And how much is Green getting from Putin to carry his water on Capitol Hill?

Answe to your question: she has no idea but probably everything.
