The irony when a former conservative PM has to school a self-described socialis PM on equality.

As well as a former National PM schooling the socialist, here we have a mega landlord doing the same...

Sadly Brian Gaynor has died.
He was a fearless foe of politicians and crooks alike, a true independent. |

Very little said about the cause of death. A brief illness is all I can find - I wonder if he was a covid death?
I'll be interested to see if there's an outflow from Milford's Kiwisaver. |

And lest anyone thinks I'm anywhere near the right because I've been pooping on Ms International Hero Ardern (as her popularity wanes to nothing in NZ) let me quickly state my complete disgust and total lack of surprise at a National Party MP being caught showing his true colours.
Revolting little man. https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/pol...ations-surface That's quite a list of shame they have now, the Nats. |

Interesting to keep an open mind.
Mike Hosking is hero worshipping this guy. In a bar Parnell with old boys just now saying media beat up for misdemeanor 22 years back. They are wrong, expulsion rare But not an expulsion, asked to leave they say. And so on. I hear all sides, and missing the pint size 13 year old etc. This guy Uffindell is now a Trumpian hero for Chrissakes. |

Well, I can guarantee Hosking never bullied anyone - he's about 4 feet 11. Maybe that's why he looks up to Uffindell.
And the Dunedin business as well, plus, if there aren't more, I'll be very surprised. Leopards and spots. Wat Uffindell did was so far beyond bullying it's not funny - it's was a cowardly group attack on a much smaller boy. I'd love to know what drove them to it - anti-gay, maybe? Bloody decent of Luxon to promote transparency by keeping all details of their review secret: https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/polit...uxon-says.html |

Here is text of an email from an academic friend
in the AT annual report published last month, the word Māori appeared 94 times, while roads only managed 54 mentions, trains 22 and buses a mere 14. The link https://at.govt.nz/media/1989997/at-...eport-2022.pdf |

I gather the NZ Supreme Court has ruled, that a voting age of 18 discriminates against 16-year olds right to determine the future society they are set to inhabit, and that the voting age must be lowered to 16?

It is right.
The youth court operates till 18, so the argument is that must finish at 16 to be consistent with voting rights. |

Apologies for not posting a link sooner, just heard it through the Danish news

In case you hadn't noticed, neoliberals or "progressives" in western countries are fairly consistent in advocating for lowering the 'age of maturity' (consent, voting) to sixteen, some of the more deranged (demonic?) to as low as fourteen.
It's difficult to figure out why that is. /s. |

Really? You can't be giving it much thought, then.
Kids are much more likely to vote for the left side of the spectrum. As Orwell said, every 16-year-old is a socialist. The late, great Sean Lock said it best when he borrowed the Brexiteers' catch-phrase "Not Our Future" when he pointed out that a 90 yo isn't voting for his future, but the future of those 16 yos. Seems reasonable to me to give them the vote. After all, we allow people with maturity of three-year-olds to stand for office, so teens shouldn't be a problem. |

Many if not most career politicians turn out to be self-serving frauds. Who could have imagined that?
I started referring to those achieving office in the UK as "bloodless freaks" years ago, and for Australasia I give you the likes of Jacinda Arden and the hideous Daniel Andrews. |
