Australian Politics: The Albanese Times

Australia has a new Labor government. Anthony Albanese is our new Prime Minister.

ABC says
L/NP = 49
ALP = 71
OTH = 9
Doubt = 22

A majority = 76
Could be a big majority to Labor.

They are saying Liberal votes have collapsed in WA.

Looks like they're still angry about the Liberals antics towards WA during Covid.

Poll Bludger has Labor ahead in 77 seats which would be great if that happens.

ETA: ah wait looks like his modelling is treating Brisbane as a Labor seat. Grrr.

Me too. After the partying is done, Labor need to understand the messages for them in this election.

"Abolishing a whole tax bracket". And increasing the taxes on the lowest tax brackets once the cuts for the wealthiest come into effect.

Listening to Fryburger talking about his partner and stuff I was really warming to him. Then he started with the BS Liberal economic talking points in utter denial of the cost of living crash that is a good part of the reason he and his party are on their arses. **** him.

Funny how he didn't mention that the debt was also higher since his party came into government. I guess anyone can be a good economic manager when you can ignore the bad points.

For some reason I thought Dutton was deputy leader and not Frydenberg. Then again I can't really tell the difference between potato people.

Felt the same. Said the same and then they switched. Was felt across the land that just kicked him and his government to the kerb.

ABC just mentioned, almost as an aside, that Morrison has called Albanese to concede.

ETA: Annabelle Crabb just called this an "utter bloodbath".

On behalf of tubers everywhere I wish to object to that comparison.

Not for long. Pig-Iron Bob had a rule for Liberal members who aspired to greatness: "You don't **** it up. Ever." Win or be helped to fall on your sword.

Scott Morrison's concession speech was relatively graceful. He has congratulated Anthony Albanese, announced that he is stepping down as Liberal leader but remaining in Parliament. His crowing about his government's "achievements" was the only negative.

Any competent school head prefect could have written that speech. Better, probably.
