It would still be far cheaper. The Secret Service would be in one spot. They wouldn't have to travel. They wouldn't have to pay the Trump Organization for over priced rooms or golf carts. It would turn them into stationary guards.

Yeah, well...

Karri Lake is the failed candidate for Arizona governor, IIRC. Failed not only by a big margin at the ballot box, but also at each and every one of the subsequent attempts to prove that election rigged. So this would seem to be her last attempt to gain any notoriety, by threatening civil war.

Uh yeah. Sure, lady.

I hope she shows up in Miami tomorrow and tries to start a civil war. I look forward to her lifeless body being carried away in a body bag. But I predict she will be nowhere near there. People who call for violence aren't so keen on being the ones to commit it. They prefer to send others to do the dying.

The judge in the case does not HAVE to preside over the case. She can recuse herself. Or the 11th circuit might decide to remove her because they don't want the embarrassment. The DoJ can also apply to have her removed.

And even if he is found guilty but she decides "no jail time" I think the DoJ can appeal the sentence.

So it's not totally hopeless.

Trump supporters were also planning to load buses to head to Miami from other parts of Florida, raising concerns for law enforcement officials who are preparing for the potential of unrest around the courthouse. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said the city would be ready, and police chief Manuel A. Morales said downtown could see anywhere from a few thousand up to 50,000 protesters. He said the city would be diverting traffic and possibly blocking streets depending on crowd size.

I don't think that is at all fair.

While dudalb has been warning about civil war (and it seems on the current situation the US finds itself, with good reason) I don't think he wants one any more that any other reasonable person.

So it has been observed that Trump has NOT been charged for possession of those documents that he actually returned when asked. The charges are for things far beyond that.

It's almost like they deliberately did not indict him for doing the same things that Biden and Pence did and the stuff he has been indicted on are different issues.

Cannon won't preside tomorrow.

Magistrate to preside over Trump’s arraignment, not controversial Judge Aileen Cannon

There is a glimmer that at least a few republicans are willing to turn on Trump over his handling of documents...

From: Politico
Nikki Haley on Monday called Donald Trump “reckless.” Tim Scott described the federal charges brought against him as “serious allegations.” It was far from an outright condemnation. But their comments marked a significant departure from the two presidential contenders’ initial reaction to Trump’s indictment.

From: The Hill
Senate Republican leaders, including Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), are staying quiet about former President Trump’s indictment on 37 criminal charges, letting him twist in the wind and breaking with House Republican leaders who have rushed to Trump’s defense... The Senate GOP leader’s top deputies — Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.) and Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) — have also indicated they don’t want Trump to win the party’s 2024 presidential nomination.

Of course, if Trump does still manage to win the republican nomination, I am sure they will all dutifully fall in line and support him regardless of any comment they make now.

I've seen a similar claim and chose not to repeat it here because it doesn't look like a photocopier, to me. I could easily be wrong on this, of course, and either way, whether it is or isn't a copier is not all that meaningful in any way. Insecure access to copiers is pretty well a given, after all, given how horrendously insecure their chain of custody has been.

Looks like one to me and I've seen dozens of them since I provided services at other people's worksites. It's an older one, pre-1990s probably, but not surprising to find in a Trump basement.

If he does go to prison, I’m not sure I could stomach him saying that he is being treated worse than any prisoner in the history of the US.

Someone in Maralago described the pile of boxes as Trump's "Beautiful Mind".

It would make a lot of sense to me if Trump wanted to find evidence of The Deep State Conspiracy and use that to leverage his return to the White House.

Of course, he doesn't have the knowledge or patience to actually do anything but pick up random files, realize that he can hardly read, and put them back somewhere.

No no, I recognized that, but it does mean that MAGA judge on her own can't dismiss the case tomorrow or put off a trial date until after the election.

I'm sure Smith and Garland can deal with future hiccoughs as they pop up.

No it isn't connected. You can see from the shadow that means the slanty part is on the floor behind the thing suspected of being the copier.

But the layering, which is barely visible in the front of the thing suspected of being the copier, is consistent with paper trays.

I enlarged the image and the thing that looks like it is something flat-ish sitting on top of the suspect copier is actually the top of the box in the foreground.

I'm open to it being something else. But one would have to suggest an alternative object in order to assess the conclusion.

I'm not sure what it is, but I'd be more inclined to think it's an older photocopier than not.

At some time, Trump stored the files in the Maralago Business Center - so yes they were very obviously close to a photocopier, that is not in question.

Trump is still having troubles finding lawyers to represent him in the case:

From: The Guardian
Trump is expected to be represented at his first court appearance to face federal criminal charges for retaining national security materials and obstruction of justice by two of his existing lawyers, despite trying to recruit a local Florida lawyer willing to join his legal defense team....Trump has also seemingly been unable to find a specialist national security lawyer, eligible to possess a security clearance, to help him navigate the Espionage Act charges....

A few possible reasons were given... Trump's reputation as a bad client (wanting lawyers to be political aides, not following advice), The strength of the case against him (leading to a likely loss, something most lawyers will want to avoid)

I doubt lawyers would be turned off from such a high profile case just because it may seem likely to lose.

I would guess Trump's reputation for not paying his bills and his famous lack of self-discipline would probably make him seem a not very good client. you can practically guarantee that Trump is going to continue to publicly discuss his case and whip up his mob of dead-ender cultists throughout the process, which sounds like a nightmare for any legal professional.

You missed the biggest negative - he was interviewing them. I have a good imagination but even I struggle to imagine those interviews. I am sure they were pleased to learn that he has the finest legal mind on the planet....

Lawyers have no problem defending someone who they know is guilty, even when they are guilty as hell of the most vile acts. As professionals, they know they have a job to do, and they do their best to do it well. Everyone deserves a fair trial.

What they won't defend is a client who won't listen to them, follow their advice, or pay them.

I am fascinated that the most damning evidence and testimony of the case comes from Trump's OWN lawyers!!!!

Only a buffoon would try to entangle his lawyers in criminal activity, thereby killing his attorney-client privilege.

Trump is not as smart as we thought.

Who is we. I can't recall the exact moment, maybe when he suggested people drink bleach to clear their systems out of COVID, but I have been quite confident, and for quite some time, that the guy is about as sharp as a bowling ball.

Or asks them to participate in a defense strategy that will likely result in their disbarment.
